00:14audience intelligence monetization and data analytics these are terms we hear
00:20more and more in today's media landscape if you've ever wondered how these are
00:24applied in the industry your luck because today we will be unpacking and
00:29dissecting each of these ideas through the newly launched pt summit platform this is pep live
00:37we're your hosts fk bravo and rachel fiazon and we will be joined by esteemed guests who will help
00:44us better understand what pt summit is all about let's please welcome howard goh president and ceo
00:52of summit media hello and we have adela may marshall spokesperson of playtime entertainment
01:02hello thank you to you both for taking the time to join us today and of course congratulations
01:08on this new venture yes so i i believe um the best place to start this conversation
01:14is with the basics so i want to ask you um howard um for anyone hearing about pt summit for
01:23the very
01:23first time what can you tell us about it and just as importantly um what problem is it trying to
01:30address okay so pt summit is a joint venture meaning two companies invested in it one is playtime
01:38entertainment the other one is summit media to build a technology platform that's designed for
01:44media businesses to thrive uh i think a good way to look at it right now is if the platforms
01:50that exist
01:50are not designed to support media in the same way that they used to uh we know that google has
01:58been
01:58doing a number of things that has changed the algorithm and other platforms in social media are
02:03tracing engagement with metrics that are not ideal for media it's more ideal for maybe a different
02:10type of behavior so we want a technology and that's going to support the media content and business
02:19model so that's what we hope pt summit can create for us so in a nutshell pt summit is about
02:26equipping
02:26publishers with better tools that can adapt in this um in the ever-changing media landscape i think
02:33more than tools it's the platform it will change the infrastructure in the ecosystem how data is is
02:40ingested collected and studied and how it's fed to to the publishers and editors so we can create
02:46better content okay so we're excited to hear more how this um venture with pt summit came about so what
02:56convinced summit media to partner with playtime entertainment or pt summit for summit media one of the
03:05things that we felt that uh made us believe that playtime entertainment was the right partner was their
03:10ability to create great engagement in another platform right now all platforms are trying to create
03:16engagement but as i mentioned earlier the metrics are different uh but being able to know what how to
03:24capture all the data and how to look at the data and use that to determine what content can drive
03:30better engagement i think is a skill set and an expertise that playtime entertainment brings to the
03:37table and that's what we think with our content and us being the first client we can create a platform
03:42that will actually do that for media now about for playtime entertainment what convinced you to partner with
03:50summit media well of course summit media is already a legacy it's a pillar in the publishing industry
03:57especially here in the philippines so we knew that when it came to storytelling they'd be a really trusted
04:01partner on our end obviously we've had some experience building digital platforms and we were able to
04:07recognize that some of the issues that exist for that also existed in the publishing industry so by
04:14sort of joining forces we're hoping to address those together and summit media is obviously our first
04:21partner our first client for that but it's also hoping that through pt summit we can sort of future proof
04:28this industry that inspires and of course informs so many filipinos right on the publisher's point of view
04:36um how do you think this will affect online media and editorial processes what kind of synergy do you
04:43foresee between the technology and the human workforce i think the first one is understanding
04:50all of the current pain points a lot of our editors now have been trying to create content
04:56that's multi-platform and each platform has a different way to do it and more importantly even
05:02if you go to one platform there are different executions depending on the content you're creating
05:07so creating a content management system or cms as we often call it in the business uh is something
05:14that that's a cms that's tailored for editors of media will allow our editors to be able to work
05:20better uh to streamline their work to save their work midstream to have other editors edited easily
05:27to create an experience that's fit for the story they want to create very quickly uh without much
05:34difficulty i think that's something every editor wants because a lot of editors can easily visualize
05:39the story they want but the cms cannot always give them the the end product yeah it will not say
05:48midstream too right it won't accidentally delete the content or anything okay well that's that's good
05:54news and also um just to confirm uh sir howard um so while the technology definitely makes workflows more
06:02efficient editorial judgment still belongs to the journalists yes that's very important in this
06:08partnership but it's very clear for for what we're doing here and that's i think why we we like working
06:13with playtime entertainment for this they understand that pt summit is really about building the platform to
06:19take media to the next level um so it's really an independent entity from the um editorial um companies who
06:29will be
06:30the clients of pt summit i think another way to look at it although i think adela has something else
06:34to
06:34add is uh right now we are on independent platforms we are on meta we are on google we are
06:41on tiktok
06:42we're all there that's another platform same thing here except this time it's a platform where we have an
06:47investment in it and as a first client we uh our partners know this new entity knows it's designed to
06:55support media so it's it's where we want to be and where we think media should go it's like um
07:01the
07:01media companies would have better control of their data with this platform yes okay all right so of
07:11course um this partnership also introduces us to a new player in the industry and that is playtime
07:16entertainment um i believe i think we're just curious um most of playtime entertainment's partnerships
07:23are consumer facing so be it in pageantry sports and entertainment so we want to know what attracted
07:31playtime entertainment to invest in the media and publishing industry this time around
07:37well i think at playtime entertainment we've always believed that technology has the power to turn great
07:43ideas into really meaningful audience experiences and in the past through our live events that's really been
07:49a live audience but of course you know everything is becoming digitalized these days and there was a
07:55time that we thought that publishing wouldn't become digitalized but now that it is it's about how can we be
08:00smart about it and going back to what you were also saying i think the easiest way to describe
08:06this partnership for people who maybe don't understand that the techie jargon is that we just want to equip
08:12the creators with the technology to empower them rather than compete with them or replace them
08:22and so um what's in it for the audiences like what would the readers or viewers expect from this
08:30innovation from pt summit i i think one of the things they can expect aside from a
08:37better experience you know ads will be less intrusive the content will load faster and would be more
08:43entertaining to read but with aside from that the data with the data we have and the content that we
08:50have will be able to allow our readers to do a deeper dive on whatever they're reading in a more
08:56automated manner that if they're reading an article for example in a particular celebrity who's married to
09:01another celebrity they can be told do you want to know more about celebrity a celebrity b their original
09:06spouse a if they were married before their children and then from there read and read more
09:10and do a deeper dive i think with short-form content now a lot of people do not do deep
09:16dives and they
09:17think they become experts with one headline or two paragraphs but we want to bring back the way media
09:24was read before to really read the many stories that are available to do a deep research into the story
09:30and become people who understand the background of many things so that when they take it to the third space
09:37conversations among friends become richer and basically it's a way to fight back against the
09:43splinter net where everyone has a super simplified view of things and it often leads to conflict
09:48rather than objective healthy conversation so they will be able to customize their experience when they
09:55go to um pep.ph for instant yes i mean i think he's already said it better than i can
10:04but i think also
10:06on the back end of that i think what we're really hoping to achieve is obviously technology has changed
10:11the way that we not just consume media but also how it's created how it's distributed even how it's
10:17discovered right and i think this technology the biggest breakthrough of it is developing it in a way
10:24that is ethical and responsible and i think together through pt summit you know we're going to be able
10:32to have better insights into audiences interests hopefully more sustainable monetization of digital
10:40products along the way but also still keeping the integrity of great storytelling at its heart
10:46that's good to hear right especially for us um editors in the editorial workforce um we want to have
10:55that um control and ability to educate our readers as well with the kind of content that we want to
11:02share
11:02with them and we really are looking forward to the changes because we know that even though the
11:07technology much of this technology is happening behind the scenes us audiences can notice the difference
11:13with this right okay so um i want to go back to what was mentioned earlier in the program um
11:20summit media
11:20is always described as a pioneer so from print to digital and now it's starting um it's pioneering
11:26something again um i guess maybe um for you sir howard uh what what is it about being the first
11:34you know
11:34testing or treading untested waters what is it um i think it's uh something that's very exciting i was
11:42just having a conversation before the event started with uh somebody else who and we were both saying
11:49that doing things that are new keeps us young it keeps us uh on our feet um interested in learning
11:57new things and i think that that's the joy of uh life if we allow it to to happen and
12:02so it allows
12:03things to remain exciting and and uh and if things remain exciting then we remain inspired we wake up in
12:11the morning looking forward to what the day will bring so if pt summit succeeds what could this mean
12:18for the media industry and for other media brands that could um check this um do a collaboration with pt
12:27summit as well just like summit media well our hope is other media businesses will say i want to use
12:34this platform also because it's designed for media and we see it working uh with summit media
12:41yes i mean we're hoping that summit media is of course just a first client and we're we're really
12:46willing to to share this with the rest of the industry i think it's just important that you know we
12:52really keep publishing alive and that it's able to thrive in this changing digital landscape
12:59yes okay so just to close our conversation um i'd like to ask you both how important is it to
13:05make
13:05take tech breakthroughs in the digital age in the age of uh sorry in digital media in the age of
13:12ai
13:15i mean i feel like i'm a bit of a broken record but it's really just that because it's changed
13:21so much for
13:22the audience experience and then also the back end it's just about keeping up to date with all of
13:28these changes that one the industry can thrive but then also as a user knowing that the platform that
13:35you're using is ethical that we're still keeping storytelling real and authentic and passionate
13:42and human of course that the stories aren't going to be changed because of these technological
13:47advancements we really just want to make it more efficient so that we can bring better
13:52stories to the people who need to hear them the most yeah yeah yeah i think if uh i i
13:58don't know
13:58if you've experimented with any of the ai platforms but i feel they're most useful if they're just used
14:05as a way to get some information if if we try to use them to create content or or certain
14:13things
14:13right now uh it often will err quite often and lead many problems i think the importance of technology
14:22now is to equip people our editors our publishers with the right tools with the right systems with the right
14:31data so that we can create the content we want for our readers to battle fake news to be able
14:39to let
14:39people go do a deep dive on the facts that matter to them to make things more engaging yes i
14:45think being able to
14:47create that would become more and more important over time because uh at the current age and not
14:52just for ai but even with the way some platforms work now where people talk about uh ai slop or
14:59brain rot
15:00all the more quality content matters but quality content to become engaging to matter needs a platform that can
15:09create real engagement okay because not everyone is going to buy a book not everyone's going to read
15:15long form in its current form now we need to make it engaging we need to allow our editors to
15:20create the
15:20story they want to tell so that people will read it end to end and go to the next story
15:25and the next story
15:26and learn more about what matters to them okay well i i just want to second what miss adela said
15:33um
15:33i i really love the emphasis on um preserving human stories but just making it more efficient
15:39and reaching people um i love it because it means that pt summit is not changing what publishers do
15:46but strengthening how they do it yeah and we're definitely excited to see how this would go for
15:54summit media and for pep especially me right yes yes so that wraps it up um we've covered everything
16:01thank you once again thank you so much thank you howard and thank you adela thank you okay thank you
16:07thank you once again um this is fk bravo and racial ciazon and this is pep live thanks for watching
