Did business deals turn deadly? Authorities are probing a shocking connection between the assassinations of two tech company managers, suggesting a motive rooted in their professional roles.
The OIJ and Fiscalía de Heredia conducted five early morning raids across Heredia and San José, leading to arrests in connection with both homicides. Investigators are targeting individuals suspected of providing logistical support and intelligence to the hitmen.
The first victim, 67-year-old Evaristo Alfaro Cordero, was gunned down in March 2025 in San Juan de Santa Bárbara, Heredia, while arriving at a bakery. The second victim, 56-year-old Cuban national Héctor Benítez Martínez, was killed in April 2025 in San Pablo de Heredia as he left his garage. Both attacks followed a similar modus operandi involving assailants on motorcycles.
While pursuing separate investigations, authorities are exploring a crucial link: both victims managed for the same technology company. This shared employment is guiding the primary hypothesis that the killings are connected to commercial dealings or disputes involving third parties.
During the raids, investigators seized a red vehicle believed to have been used as an escape vehicle and clothing potentially worn by a suspect. One arrest in Desamparados involved a brief pursuit where the suspect's vehicle collided with a wall.
