00:06Combining my design expertise with the savoir-faire of the Louis Vuitton brand,
00:11it's a great honor to be asked to design a range of products that really fit within the core of
00:17the brand,
00:18not only from an historical point of view, but from a cultural point of view.
00:24The brief that I had for the project was fairly open.
00:28Really it was to redesign, primarily carry-on luggage,
00:32but to design it in a way that was appropriate for a contemporary traveller.
00:38I can safely say that I probably spent 20 years designing these things in my head
00:43long before I knew that I was going to be doing this for Louis Vuitton.
00:48We were able to achieve an extraordinary level of lightness through incredibly rigorous engineering.
00:55I mean, it was a bit like working in a Formula One set-up.
00:59We took the structure and moved it to the outside, where, frankly, it's needed much more than the inside.
01:06It frees up all of this internal space, not only from a volumetric perspective,
01:11but from a psychological perspective.
01:13That when you open the bag and you look inside, you've just got a big, flat surface.
01:17And that simply doesn't exist in the marketplace.
01:20And this was really, almost completely, a process of engineering rather than design.
