Is entrepreneur Scott Brannon's Costa Rican past catching up with him? The American businessman, formerly active in Costa Rican ventures, is now serving six months of house arrest in Miami, Florida.

Brannon pleaded guilty to federal charges of tax evasion and illegal sports betting in the United States. This admission comes with a hefty $25 million in fines. The sentence was handed down by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

The court's ruling also includes 12 months of supervised release. The first half of this probation will be spent under home confinement in the U.S., with the remaining six months allowing for Brannon to be outside the country. His prior business dealings in Costa Rica made him a known figure there.
