00:00Is there any purpose or this person in coma has no purpose at all?
00:07It is just living and passing by a wave.
00:12All kinds of purposes we nurture.
00:16Think of all your purposes.
00:19Purpose, goal, goal, targets.
00:21You'll find the top purpose is missing.
00:24You know, I'm studying so that one day I'll own a Ferrari.
00:28And how would you ride it? On a stretcher?
00:31How exactly?
00:33And all that is happening and that is what we call the story of our life.
00:41It's an entire stream of ignorance.
00:44But you notice only those places or points or dots or drops
00:49where you start feeling uncomfortable, where you receive a hit.
00:53Then why do we dread this philosophy of karma so much?
00:57Karma is such a popular word and nobody would say I don't know what it means.
01:01What is karma? Please tell me.
01:04No, it is not that.
01:05It essentially means actions, whatever actions you take.
01:08The actions without any dependence miskaam karma.
01:19That's karma.
01:20That's karma.
01:20But would the unconscious man know that?
01:23That's karma.
01:25That's karma.
01:26That's karma.
01:27Namaste Acharya Ji.
01:29My name is Lata.
01:30I'm a PhD student here in biomedical engineering.
01:34So drawing from that dumbness of things that we do.
01:39So what happens generally is the friends I have, the people I've met throughout,
01:46there's a lack of why in why they're doing the PhD.
01:50I've met them, I ask them why.
01:52And they're like there's bachelors, there's masters, then there's PhD.
01:56What else is there?
01:57Okay.
01:58For engineers, there's a different agenda.
02:00They have B.Tech.
02:01Didn't get a job, did M.Tech.
02:03Didn't get a job, did a PhD.
02:06So happens, happens that way.
02:10So what happens in the end of a PhD?
02:12Like PhD shouldn't be your degree, right?
02:14It is to seek something, you're seeking something deeper in that field.
02:17You're not just here for that.
02:19How do we find that?
02:20Why?
02:21Why are we doing this?
02:23Why are we here?
02:25You're carrying this book, right?
02:28Just open the second chapter.
02:33Just open the second chapter.
02:36Why do people so often?
02:40Notice the colour of the paper.
02:45Notice the font.
02:48Notice the theme of the book.
02:52Now move to any subsequent page.
02:57Notice the colour of the paper.
03:00Notice the colour of the ink.
03:03Notice the theme, the central idea of what's being said.
03:08Move to any other paper.
03:13Now move to the end.
03:17Has anything changed?
03:20Has anything changed?
03:22Has anything changed?
03:23So it's not about M.Tech or PhDs.
03:25That's how we have been since kindergarten.
03:30And how can it suddenly change when you enter B.Tech or M.Tech or doctorate?
03:36That's the entire story.
03:39One chapter cannot be an exception.
03:42One page cannot stand out.
03:45You cannot suddenly have red ink in the middle of black.
03:50An ocean of black.
03:52Possible?
03:53It's an ocean of black.
03:55Can you have a red dot in the middle?
03:57Impossible.
03:58It will be dissolved.
03:59It will be taken in.
04:00Co-opted.
04:01Killed.
04:02But it might stand out also if it is the ocean.
04:05It doesn't.
04:07It's a big if.
04:10There is no such dot.
04:11Please understand.
04:14It's an entire stream of ignorance.
04:20But you notice only those places or points or dots or drops
04:27where you start feeling uncomfortable, where you receive a hit.
04:32This same flow, this same theme, when it serves your little interests,
04:38then you don't raise any questions.
04:42Are you getting it?
04:43Okay, I'll make it more objective.
04:45Did you choose your subjects when you were in class 10th?
04:49No, you'll say we actually had no choice.
04:51Fine.
04:52So why should the picture change when you enter PhD?
04:57It's the same theme.
04:59Chapter 2, Chapter 8, Chapter 11, then death.
05:02We'll die the same way.
05:04Even the last page carries the same ink and the same theme and the same page.
05:10We'll die the same way.
05:12Do we really choose our thoughts?
05:13I'm asking you.
05:14Please tell me.
05:16Isn't it just the prejudice and memories?
05:18Do you choose your feelings?
05:22No.
05:22Then how do you choose your careers or your partners?
05:25Because if thoughts and feelings come randomly,
05:29then the things that we hold so close to our chest, they also just come randomly.
05:35And if they are random, why do you invest so much on them?
05:39That's the story of our life.
05:41When we choose nothing since the beginning, we'll be choosing nothing even in the middle.
05:49PhD is the middle.
05:50The fellow is not making a choice.
05:52It's an unconscious flow.
05:56Like a leaf flowing in a stream.
05:59Being carried away.
06:01Being just carried away.
06:02Something is just carrying us through life.
06:08We don't determine our goals.
06:11We are nobody.
06:13There exists nothing within really.
06:15We are just processes.
06:17Just processes.
06:18And that's a pity.
06:21Because we can be more than a process.
06:24Because we can be really conscious.
06:27Because choice is available.
06:29But in the name of choice, we just glorify our unconscious behavior.
06:35And say, I chose this.
06:36You didn't choose this, sir.
06:38It happened to you.
06:41But that would appear like insulting, a bit shameful.
06:45It's happening to me.
06:47Everything is happening to me.
06:48This happened to me.
06:49That happened to me.
06:50The body happened to me.
06:52My gender happened to me.
06:53My religion happened to me.
06:55My kids happened to me.
06:58Everything just happened to me.
06:59I never actually really consciously chose.
07:02That would appear quite insulting.
07:05So we say, no, no.
07:06I have now chosen to take up that job.
07:08I have chosen that car model.
07:11I have chosen to settle in the US.
07:13No, not at all.
07:14It's not your choice.
07:15You are just flowing.
07:16You are drifting.
07:18You are drifting.
07:18You are like a man in coma.
07:22Being wheeled away on a stretcher.
07:25Is the man driving through the hospital?
07:28But that's what he claims to do.
07:32He is comatose.
07:34There is no consciousness.
07:36The force causing the movement is not internal.
07:41There is no inner locus of control at all.
07:45That's how we are.
07:47But that shows up, let's say, at one particular point.
07:50And then we wonder, we actually worry about it.
07:55I hope it goes deeper.
07:59Instead of just worrying, we try to understand it.
08:07We observe it, we approach it, we look at it, not just this moment, but how all moments have been
08:15and how all moments are likely to be, not just with us, but with everybody, not just around us, but
08:22even in history.
08:24That's the way it has been.
08:25That's the way it has been.
08:26Right?
08:28But then are we accountable for any of our actions?
08:31Accountable only to yourself.
08:32You are the measure of your actions.
08:35You.
08:36So does even what we say, unconditional love, does it even exist?
08:42Who is the lover?
08:43No, anyone.
08:45Let's say I have a love for science.
08:47I have a love for a person.
08:49Does it even exist?
08:49The fellow is being wheeled away on a stretcher, and he is in coma since birth.
08:57This one would be the lover?
08:59Like seriously?
09:02But in his dream, he is uttering some nonsense.
09:06I love you, that one is my kid, this is what is happening.
09:10And the biological processes are all going on, because biological processes do not require consciousness.
09:17So the fellow is growing here, the fellow is growing in height and in weight.
09:21The fellow has attained puberty.
09:23The fellow can even reproduce in coma, that is possible.
09:27Only cells have to be taken and reproduction will happen.
09:30And all that is happening, and that is what we call the story of our life.
09:35So what do you mean by unconditional love?
09:37The question is, who is the lover?
09:39The lover is in coma.
09:42The lover does not know himself, and I love you begins with I.
09:47The lover does not know what this I is.
09:50Where is the question of love?
09:52One doesn't even come to love before I.
09:55Forget about coming to you.
09:57You is a distant third.
09:59I love you requires I in the first place.
10:02Where is that?
10:05Is there any purpose or this person in coma has no purpose at all?
10:12It is just living and passing by away.
10:18Only the person in coma can have a purpose.
10:23You see, the purpose will be to come out of the coma.
10:29What else?
10:31What else?
10:32Please tell me.
10:33If you are so horribly sick, can you have another purpose?
10:38Must you have another purpose?
10:39But instead of having that one all-important purpose, we have all kinds of purposes.
10:45I need to go to the grocer and get something, get a new mug.
10:53I have to arrange for a date at that particular place.
10:58All kinds of purposes we nurture.
11:01Except for that one purpose which will make all other purposes viable.
11:08That one purpose is first of all, come to your senses and stand up on your feet.
11:15That we don't do.
11:16We remain comatose and yet we keep dreaming of multiple purposes.
11:21You know, I am studying so that one day I will own a Ferrari.
11:28And how would you ride it? On a stretcher?
11:31How exactly?
11:35How exactly?
11:37Think of all your purposes.
11:39You will find the top purpose is missing.
11:45And if the top purpose is missing, of what value are all these secondary purposes?
11:55Purpose, goal, goal, targets, all this hustle, I have to get there, do this, all this is purpose, right?
12:06Then why do we dread this philosophy of karma so much?
12:10Because the unconscious one can only have an idea of philosophy, a projection of philosophy, an image of philosophy.
12:20Not philosophy itself.
12:24So karma for example would be something totally unknown to the unconscious one.
12:30But he will have some image of what karma is.
12:33Like the mass of the population.
12:36Go to anybody, karma is such a popular word and nobody would say I don't know what it means.
12:41Everybody has some vague idea, some hazy image, right?
12:45But do they know what karma is?
12:48When you are unconscious, you cannot know anything, let alone karma.
12:51What is karma? Please tell me.
12:53What is karma?
12:54It's actions.
12:56No, it is not that.
12:58It essentially means actions, whatever actions you take.
13:01The actions without any dependence, niskam karma which we say.
13:07If it comes from the Bhagavad Gita, all it means is karma does not matter.
13:14That's what the Bhagavad Gita says.
13:17You are needlessly obsessed with action.
13:24You should be attending to the actor.
13:28And when the actor is in the right place, then you don't have to worry about action.
13:35The right action will follow by itself.
13:39You won't have to plan it.
13:43You won't have to worry about it.
13:45It will be spontaneous.
13:48That's karma.
13:50But would the unconscious man know that?
13:53He would say karma is if you do bad things right now, then in your next birth,
13:58somebody will come and hit you with an iron rod.
14:03So, is that sleeping man in coma?
14:07Is the way to get out of coma only the philosophy or can we calculate it and get it through
14:13science?
14:13Wonderful, wonderful. I'm glad you raised this. Wonderful. Glad.
14:16See, the saving grace is you can never be fully unconscious.
14:24Never, never be fully unconscious.
14:27And that's why doctors dread it when you are deeply unconscious.
14:34Even when they anesthetize you for surgery or something.
14:40The unconsciousness is only to a level.
14:44And if you exceed that level, doctors get jittery because that may now mean that you will never return.
14:52You can never be fully unconscious and that's why sedatives and dopamine spikes don't help.
15:04You will suffer.
15:06You want to be unconscious so that you can avoid the experience of suffering.
15:14Right?
15:15You want to sleep.
15:18Does that not happen when you are very tense?
15:21You want to fall asleep so that that deep, dirty, ugly experience can be avoided or at least postponed.
15:30But in existence, being fully unconscious is not possible.
15:35Some part of you will remain conscious even if you lie a thousand times to it.
15:44You may keep telling it, no, no, no.
15:46There is no reason to experience any suffering.
15:51All is hunky-dory.
15:52Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep.
15:55It still won't go to sleep because its nature is awakening.
16:00It will remain awake.
16:02And because it will remain awake, you will suffer.
16:05You will suffer.
16:07Just as a man who retains some sense through a surgery, he will suffer.
16:13Right?
16:13If during a surgery, when you are being cut open, if you still have some sensitivity left, physical sensitivity, you
16:23experience suffering, don't you?
16:25Yes.
16:25That's our inevitable condition.
16:27We try to become as insensitive to ourselves as possible.
16:32But we can't succeed.
16:34That's the law.
16:37So, the one in coma, at some deep level, will know that he is in a bad state.
16:46Because being in coma is not his nature.
16:49Nature is awakening.
16:52And when you go against your nature, you will suffer.
16:55That is the very definition of suffering.
16:57Going against your nature.
17:00Nature is awakening.
17:01And yet you have preferred coma.
17:04And that is suffering.
17:06And when you suffer, then out of self-love, you must figure out what this thing called suffering is, what
17:14its entire structure is.
17:16And by knowing that, you manage to gradually awaken.
17:21That's the way out.
17:23When you suffer, or when you are unconscious, then you still have the power to know why you are unconscious.
17:33Right?
17:34And by knowing, by knowing more and more and more, you put away the unconsciousness.
17:43Because knowing itself is consciousness.
17:45When you know more and more, you find you are rising out from the coma.

18:48Hi, my name is Ankit.
18:49And I am a tech professional here in Bangalore.
18:53I work at LinkedIn.
18:54Been listening to Acharya Ji for two plus years.
18:58But initial journey was around YouTube, like I was listening a lot on YouTube.
19:02And on YouTube, when we listen to Acharya Ji, a lot of mistake that I did and a lot of
19:07us do is that we think that he's some kind of a life coach,
19:11solving problems of our life and all of that.
19:14But shift to Gita Satras was the major turning point for me, like, because that's where I understood where this
19:21learning is coming from.
19:23And, like, there is a hard base of Bhagavad Gita and Advaita Vedanta philosophy from which all the teachings and
19:30learnings are emerging.
19:31And that has been a life changing force for me.
19:34So, like, my life was full of stress, unorganized behavior.
19:38A lot of it is still there, but a lot of it has changed and it's changing on a day
19:44to day basis.
19:45As and when I observe my life, there is massive changes happening.
19:49I somehow feel a lot of, like, spurts of happiness for no reason.
19:55And a lot of, what do you call, like, pressure as well, like, to do better and better and better,
20:03which I had forgotten,
20:04which I had left after my school days and college days that, okay, now the learning part stops.
20:09Now is the time to kind of live life and have that Bangalore kind of vibe, like partying and outing
20:16and malls and shoppings and all of that.
20:18That's there.
20:19But now you see that where it's coming from.
20:23What is the root of it?
20:24What is the source of it?
20:26And how that is something which does not fulfill us and what fulfills us is something totally different.
20:32That understanding has started to come because of which a lot of things have started dropping off.
20:37A lot of things are dropping off and it's a process.
20:40It's it takes some time because, as I said, my life was very messed up and disorganized.
20:46But joining Gita Satras is changing it like phenomenally.
20:50And I hope to continue on this path for a much longer time and become like a completely transformed person.
20:57All thanks to Achareji.
20:59And I can't thank him enough in words, especially the Gita sessions that happen in the evenings.
21:05Yeah.
