00:15Contender is a mature male white shark tagged by Oak Shark in January 2025 off the Florida,
00:22Georgia coast. He measured 13.8 feet long and weighed about 1653 pounds. That made him the
00:32largest male white shark ever tagged, sampled, and released by Osiark in the western North Atlantic
00:38population. Not necessarily the largest great white shark ever to exist. Not bigger than every
00:45female ever recorded. But still enormous. His satellite tag can help researchers track
00:52migration, seasonal movement, habitat use, and the places large white sharks return to over
00:58time. That matters because great whites are often treated as monsters instead of animals
01:04with patterns. They follow food. They respond to water temperature. They use coastal and offshore
01:12habitats. And they play an important role as large predators in ocean ecosystems.
01:19For beachgoers, the lesson is not panic. Shark bites are rare compared with how many people
