00:10The 23-year-old pop star recently addressed speculation that she supports the MAGA movement
00:15after being criticized for collaborating with country superstar Morgan Wallen on their hit
00:19song, What I Want. The track, which appears on Wallen's album I'm the Problem, debuted
00:24at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became McRae's first chart-topping single.
00:29But the conversation didn't stop with the music. McRae has also been the subject of political
00:33speculation because of her reported relationship with NHL star Jack Hughes.
00:38Earlier this summer, Hughes and his Team USA teammates received a congratulatory phone call
00:43from President Trump after winning Olympic gold. During the call, Trump joked about inviting
00:48the women's team as well, saying he would quote, probably be impeached if he didn't.
00:53Hughes was seen laughing alongside his teammates, and the team later faced criticism after visiting
00:59the White House and attending Trump's State of the Union address.
01:02Now in a new interview with Variety, McRae is making it clear that she doesn't feel
01:06the need to respond to every rumor online. She said quote, I like to say my piece through
01:11organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour. McRae added, I think it's
01:16pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans
01:20can see that through the things that I'm putting my energy towards. The outlet also pointed to a TikTok
01:25McRae shared last year promoting a Little Miss Possessive sweatshirt with proceeds benefiting the
01:30Global Fund for Women and the Trevor Project, which supports LGBTQ plus youth. As for the attention
01:36surrounding her personal life, the singer says she prefers to keep it private. Quote, I try to keep
01:41my relationships as sacred and private as possible, she said, adding that she focuses on the people
01:46closest to her rather than outside noise she can't control. The interview also touched on the
01:51emotional toll of her massive 88-stop Miss Possessive Tour, which grossed more than $100 million.
01:57McRae admitted she struggled after the tour wrapped, saying she felt exhausted, couldn't sleep,
02:02and needed time to regulate her mental health. She said she eventually reminded herself that she
02:07wasn't the worst person in the world and was simply doing what she loves. She recently headlined
02:12Lollapalooza, where she went viral after closing out her set by dipping herself into a pool of gold
02:17paint. With work underway on her fourth studio album, McRae says she's focused on one thing,
02:23continuing to grow as an artist and outperform her last performance.
