00:10We're at the Count and Sindan and Mystery Jets video shoot for the Summer Smash After Dark.
00:17Well, we hope it's the Summer Smash.
00:19And as you can see, they're filming in the background.
00:39Well, we are the Count and Sindan and we are on location of a new song with the Mystery Jets
00:46After Dark.
00:47We're just hanging out whilst people around us kind of potter around and bring us cups of coffee and change
00:52lights and things.
00:54I don't know what they're doing this year.
01:01I don't know. We lost the Mystery Jets as well. They've mysteriously disappeared, as is their want.
01:07How did we meet the Mystery Jets?
01:09We met them at Nottingham Carnival.
01:11We decided we were all going to go back because we were at a pub.
01:13And we all decided we were going to go back to Kai's house.
01:16And we walked back to Kai's house and he lived two doors down from me.
01:21So that was how freaky that was.
01:23Because we were neighbours, we just basically hung out all the time.
01:25Will's always around Kai's and Sindan's always around mine.
01:29So we just became friends, really.
01:32Ah, here he is.
01:35So obviously the next sort of thing that both of us making music was let's collaborate.
01:39So we were both into each other's stuff.
01:41No, basically we were sitting around and we wanted to do a track.
01:44And then I came around to Kai's and he played me a demo of something.
01:50Like a sketch that Kai and Will had done.
01:53And it was terrible, except for one bit.
01:58No, they were playing it and there was just one bit and it was like a bridge.
02:02And I was like, guys, take that. Let's make that the chorus.
02:06And they were like, yeah, yeah.
02:07And then we just ended up flinging the parts backwards and forwards over the internet.
02:12Even though they only lived down the road, but it's faster just to send it, isn't it?
02:15And we didn't want to see each other.
02:16No, we were particularly un-fond of each other.
02:20It's really any wonder how this collaboration actually came about at all.
02:24Due to the outright animosity.
02:25So that's how the song came about, really.
02:28My girlfriend kind of made some dance moves to it.
02:30And from that moment we all knew that it would be a...

02:34And we knew it would be the opening single.
02:36So that's why we're here, basically.
02:38They forced us to make a video.
02:39Hangs in the air like the waves of the sea.
02:43Wall strip would sweat and we move to the beat.

02:50There's a queue for the ladies that bends round the street.
02:54It's like the concept of the video is basically a dance song.
02:58Like a talent contest, sort of.
02:59Yeah, a talent contest.

03:01And the different dance styles are all very different.

03:18Hi, I'm Jo Apps and I'm directing the music video for Calvin Simden featuring Mr. Jets for After Dark.
03:25The idea of the video sort of came from watching lots of old sort of Detroit dance music shows and
03:32things on the internet.
03:33And I love the way that you have these kind of quite incredible dancers coming forward doing these beautiful routines,
03:42quite absurd routines to the camera.
03:44And it's not quite as rigid as TV shows and things are now.
03:49It's much more of a kind of showing off kind of thing.
03:52Lots of dancers dancing in very different styles to each other.
03:57Count and Sindan and Mystery Jets would be this kind of quite a 70s style house band sort of playing
04:03in the corner in the studio.
04:05And then you have these sort of three judges sort of working out their favourite one along the way.
