00:04My name is Gary Powell, I'm the drummer from the Libertines, and I am also the drummer
00:10and mainstay of the Invasion of, my new band.
00:14There's been a few reviews in already, and they either say it's kind of new metal, which
00:20it ain't, or they'll have some other trite kind of rendition regarding the direction
00:27of the music, and it's primarily because, you know, I listen to so many different types
00:33of music, there are so many different angles that I'm actually coming from, but I'm actually
00:36utilizing all of that in order to come up with something slightly new, and I've killed
00:40it, which is what we need right now.
00:42I don't think there is a great deal of new things happening musically.
00:46So now it's just a case of actually taking that and taking it for what it's worth.
00:50Do you like it?
00:51Yeah.
00:52Are you going to give it a chance to listen to it and figure out exactly where you would
00:56actually put it within your musical collection?
00:58That's totally up to the listener, basically, but as far as I'm concerned, it's something
01:03slightly new and different.
01:04Most people say, wow, I wasn't expecting that and quite like it.
01:07Whether they're actually just being polite to me, I don't know.
01:11Maybe they're thinking, shit, I've got no idea, I've really got no idea.
01:15But just judging by the response from the guys in the band, especially like Robin, whose
01:19background, once again, is completely different, they're all totally into it and having a great
01:23time playing the music.
01:24So I came back from the studio one day and I just had this riff in my mind.
01:34I was like, yeah, man, that will work, I've got to remember that.
01:36Came home, said hi to my girlfriend, played with the kid for a little bit, needed to take
01:41a dump, sat down in the toilet, picked up a magazine and there was a thing that's just
01:44dressed in Venice and I just went, yeah.
01:47And then I'd already come up with the title of the band Invasion of, and then I just figured,
01:51what the hell, we'll just call it the track Invasion of Venice.
01:54And that's how we came up with the name Invasion of as well.
01:57The next step, yeah, we're going to start with, because we've gotten down about 15 tracks and
02:05we have the EP, so it's just a mini album, but there's six tracks on the mini album.
02:10So we're hoping to actually then kind of really kind of investigate the other tracks that we've
02:16played a little bit more and then do some further writing.
02:18It's not set in stone the direction of the band yet.
02:21We've got no idea which direction we should really be heading in regarding the overall
02:26sound of the band.
02:27So we're going to keep on investigating that and see what happens next.
02:30We recorded the EP, it's called 373, and it comes out on October 4th on my label.
02:37It's very, very exciting indeed, especially from the point of view that it is so different
02:41to what I did beforehand as well.
02:43It's a little bit nerve wracking, because I know there are a bunch of people out there
02:45that are just assuming that, you know, hey Gary's got a band.
02:49It is just going to be a massive drum solo with no real musical content, or intent for
02:56that matter.
02:56And it's not like that at all.
02:58I mean, it's as musical as you like.
03:01Hopefully, you know, there'll be a tour of some sort.
03:03It'd be really good to get a good support, if anybody out there is willing to give us
03:07a good support.
