Jarvis Cocker heads backstage to talk about his hosting tips for Angelos Epithemiou, the Pulp reunion and his radio show.
Transcript
00:09Hi, I'm Paul Stokes. We're backstage at the NME Awards. I've been joined by Jarvis Cocker,
00:13who was last year's host, but he also handed out the John Peele Award for Innovation this year.
00:17How are you enjoying your night, Jarvis?
00:18Okay, it's only just begun, you know. It's good to get straight in there and to engage with the people,
00:25and it's nice.
00:26So back for more. You hosted last year, just one award tonight, though.
00:30Yeah, I'm just here to, you know, and to also, I thought I could give some tips and, you know,
00:36to pass on the knowledge,
00:38you know, just to, because I'm such a generous, nice person, you know.
00:42How do you think Angelos is getting on?
00:43I think he's doing very, I think he's doing quite well. I like his tie. I like to see that
00:47he's made an effort, you know.
00:49It's good. Presentation means a lot.
00:51I have to ask, obviously, you're not just known as the NME Awards host of last year. You've got quite
00:54a busy summer coming up, I understand.
00:57Hopefully, yeah, if everything goes according to plan.
01:00How are the preparations for your pulp reunion?
01:03Okay, okay. Not bad. I'm not really talking about that, you know, at the moment, because it's very hush-hush.
01:12If I told you too much, I'd have to kill you. I don't want to do that, because you seem
01:16like a nice person.
01:17I value my existence, and everything going alright with the radio show and everything else?
01:22Yes, you know, the radio show's going very, I enjoy that a lot. That's good fun.
01:27Well, it's good you're backing music, because I remember last year you were saying you were having a year off
01:29for music.
01:30Are you sort of itching to go again with music now?
01:32Yeah, I am. I think, you know, it's good to have a little break sometimes, and then you realise that
01:40you kind of miss it, and you want to get back in and do it, yeah.
01:42So, yeah.
01:43It wasn't Total Break, because you did that track with Disco Dane as well, didn't you?
01:46I did, yes. I performed with them the other day. God, it was like three o'clock in the morning.
01:51I'm not used to staying up that late. I suppose it was a bit of training anyway, but yeah.
01:56Well, hopefully you can stay out for the rest of the party and enjoy the rest of the night.
01:59I'll try to, yeah. I'll try not to fall asleep under the table. No, I'm looking forward to it, yeah.
02:05Jarvis, thank you so much, and thanks for coming back this year.
02:07Alright, you're welcome. Cheers.
02:09Cheers.
