01:01Glasgow had become, in this post-France Ferdinand wasteland, far too many bands taking themselves far too seriously.
01:08I mean, I like France Ferdinand, they're a good band, but we started as a means to rally against that,
01:15and try to have as much fun as possible, not get bogged down in trying to look cool,
01:20because we were never going to look cool.
01:22When we called ourselves Dan and Akron, we didn't think we would be doing it five years later.
01:27It was a stupid joke to start with.
01:29There are maybe days when you have slightly regrets about the band name, but I still like it.
01:34I think it's ridiculous, and I think playing at festivals, if there's no one else on that people have heard
01:40of,
01:40they'll see our name and just think, well, it's going to be extreme one way or the other.
01:56Everyone used to rave about them, and I was like, hmm, really? Are they going to be as good as
02:01everyone says?
02:02And I saw them, and completely got blown away.
02:05I shed a tear, and I looked at Ree, and I was like, I am actually crying.
02:10I think they're one of the best gigs we've ever had at the Flapper.
02:12They were amazing showmen.
02:14And I think people walk out thinking, that's a need to remember.
02:18And I really will.
02:24We supported the Kaiser Chiefs for a whole month, like all over Europe, basically.
02:28So we had, like, from Spain and Portugal, who were really warm and incredible.
02:33Amazing, yeah.
02:33And then you'd get to places that I don't want to name, and they would just be like...
02:37You really do feed off the crowds.
02:40And, yeah, when you've got people who look like they genuinely want to be at the exact opposite end of
02:45the world,
02:46it's really disheartening.
02:58I've just seen that, and I cried.
03:01And it was pretty good.
03:03But I fell over, and someone stepped on my balls.
03:08Everybody was, like, making friends with Dan and Anak.
03:10We're jumping and being nice to whatever, and I like that.
03:12Yeah, they stopped it getting nasty as well, which was...
03:14Yeah, specifically said, much as a dickhead.
03:16It makes it really enjoyable.
03:17I was trying to crowd surf, and then they mentioned that they kind of wanted us to stop being dickheads,
03:21and so I toned it down a little bit.
03:24You know, respectful, you know, to the group, you know, whatever they say.
03:28If people, like, sort of run around hurting each other, then obviously we'll stop playing around.
03:32Which is everything.

03:33I've seen girls, like, get their heads smashed off of monitors and stuff.

03:37I actually don't care that there are women around and stuff.
03:39So we like to have a little shout at some folk.
04:03I think touring is harder now, but also kind of easier because we have slightly better accommodations and stuff.
04:10When we first started, we were sleeping on floors and being covered in bug bites, and we were in a
04:15van that kept breaking down.
04:16So that's easier, but the more we tour, the more shows we play, so the kind of harder our tours
04:21become.
04:22Playing in small venues, you miss that absolute mad energy.
04:27You just take it.
04:28You just take it wherever you go.
04:29Those early gigs were really wild, but as for sleeping on floors and existing on, like, two pounds a day,
04:36no way.
04:37Don't miss it one bit.

05:12My parents would never be seen dead at one of my shows.
05:16I know that they don't like it, but, you know, they buy my records and they show their support.

05:27And I was like, I know, but it's the kids' music, Dad, you can get with it.
05:31Yeah, he was quite happy when we started being a bit more melodic.
05:34My mum kind of goes crazier than I do.

05:36She dances on tables and stuff.
05:38My mum's just happy that I'm out of the house.
