Two brothers face the fight of a lifetime - and the wreckage of their broken family - within the brutal, high-stakes world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting in Warrior, Lionsgate's new action/drama.
Transcript
00:01Brendan, it's me.
00:03Pop, what are you doing here?
00:05Tommy's back.
00:06Did he say if he wants to see me?
00:08I'm proud of you, Tommy.
00:10What you did for that kid.
00:11Tommy Reardon, you saved my life.
00:13I definitely would describe it as a really great drama first
00:16and a fight movie second.
00:18Do it!
00:20I thought we agreed that we weren't going to raise our children
00:22in a family where their father gets beat up for a living.
00:26I remember it being bandied about earlier on within the studio.
00:30I kind of wanted to get a mixture of Rocky meets Raging Bull meets The Deer Hunter.
00:34And I kind of get it.
00:35In a way, whilst trying to forge a new movie, Warrior,
00:38what Garen has accomplished and achieved is very much a double sort of film.
00:42You have pitting two brothers against each other
00:44and see which one will come out as a winner or prevail.
00:48At the same time, you have how the family dynamic is damaged
00:51and how it's actually going to repair itself.
00:53Mom needed you. I needed you. You're my big brother. You bailed on me.
00:56I was a 16-year-old kid. What the hell did I know?
00:59You had a choice, okay? You had a choice.
01:01To Brennan in particular, like, the relationship is over and is gone.
01:06I mean, he doesn't even know where Tommy is
01:09and the fact that Tommy just sort of emerges out of the shadows
01:11all of a sudden after 15 years is a real kind of emotional shock to him.
01:15It doesn't seem they're going to be able to resolve that history,
01:19to amalgamate their relationship, to reunite in any way, verbally or emotionally,
01:27until they get physical with each other.
01:29War hero Tommy Reardon, who has become an overnight sensation,
01:33and Ryan and Conlon, the physics teacher, they pulled off a miracle!
01:38You can do this. Whenever you say it, I can do this.
01:41You hear these stories about actors, you know, who have been around for a while,
01:45who, you know, will do their close-ups and then run off and leave other people,
01:49their stand-ins to work with you, you know, and it's not one of those guys.
01:53He'll be given just as much off-camera as he does on-camera.
01:56He is extraordinary. He doesn't say much.
01:59I would say for these actors, actor generally, because not only is he brilliant,
02:03and not only is he reliable for the work, you know, when you're working with him,
02:07and he's absolutely, you know, there, you know, and when we all get set,
02:12you know, he's absolutely in the moment of his life.
02:15He's given you choices when, actually, he could very easily, you know,
02:19wipe the floor with the actors of his generation and below.
02:23You got him!
02:24This is impossible!
02:25The two-man fighting for the championship tonight are brothers!
02:28Great stories.
02:30Great stories from Marlon Brown down to Jack Nicholson.
02:32Which he will tell you a few times.
02:34Yeah!
02:36He's very, very good fun to be with as well.
02:39And massively talented.
02:40Are we here to win this fight?
02:42Because if we're not, I will throw in the towel.
