00:00Firefighters in Greece are continuing work to contain a wildfire on the outskirts of Athens,
00:06burning for a fifth day with easing winds, enabling the use of vital aircraft. Their
00:12work comes as the greater Athens and the neighboring island of Evia remained under
00:18near-maximum fire risk on Tuesday. According to the local fire department, more than 30 aircraft
00:24are being deployed in the areas to enable access to difficult mountain terrain. Over 500 firefighters
00:31had already been deployed in villages around Mount Kithairoon.
00:45Meanwhile, on Monday, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection announced a rental
00:51subsidy for those affected aimed at covering their immediate housing needs. According to the
00:57Cebu Protection Ministry, eligible home owners and occupants may receive either a rental subsidy or
01:04a cohabitation subsidy with duration limits of up to two years for owners and six months for tenants.
01:12More than 13,000 hectares of forest and agricultural land have been affected by the fire near Athens,
01:18which broke out on Friday. The wildfires have also claimed the lives of some five firefighters since last week.
