00:50I'm paraphrasing what you said after Wimbledon, but words to the effect that I'm really sick of tennis right now.
00:57How long did it take for you to get back your enthusiasm and get over that disappointment?
01:07Yeah, I think the rest was much needed.
01:11I suffered during the summer swing a lot, like with my body, with mentally also a little bit, and it
01:19was much needed.
01:20And after making us, I spent there, I don't know, five, six days, maybe not even that.
01:26I felt much, much better.
01:28I couldn't wait to get back on court and start working towards my goals for this swing.
01:34So it was much needed.
01:36I would say that a week.
01:37It took me a week.
01:39Hey, Irina.
01:40How excited are you to play with Novak at the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles?
01:44I know last year you had to withdraw because of Grigor's injury, so how much are you looking forward to
01:48that?
01:49I hope everyone's going to be healthy this time.
01:53And I'm pretty excited.
01:54I think it's going to be fun.
01:56And playing with Novak is always fun.
01:59And mixed doubles, I played it once in my life, I mean, on the Grand Slams, and we are going
02:09full.
02:09You know, we're chasing the only title.
02:13That's our goal, I believe.
02:14So it's going to be fun and intense, I believe.
02:17And I'm just wondering, like last year you withdrew for fatigue.
02:21And I'm just wondering, do you speak to the grind of this stretch leading into the U.S. Open?
02:26Because there's been withdrawals on the men's side this year, and I know the organizers weren't all that happy about
02:32the late withdrawals.
02:32I'm just wondering if you could speak to the grind that the players are through and sort of the awkward
02:35spot that this tournament sometimes is in on the schedule.
02:38Yeah, it's very tricky scheduling lots of tournaments, two-weeks tournaments.
02:43And if you go far at the grass swing, like you kind of like don't have much time to reset,
02:50recharge, and go back on court to practice and then play the tournament.
02:55You don't have that much time for that.
02:57So kind of like skipping the vacation time, which really needed after like that big part of the season.
03:05So it's tricky to schedule, and then if you go far at the grass court, you feel really fatigued, and
03:12like you're not able to pull out any good tennis.
03:15So what's the reason of coming, like when your body is really under so much stress, not enough time for
03:24recovery, you kind of like force your body too much, and then it can cause you an injury.
03:28So it's very tricky, but this year I didn't do well, so I'm here.
03:34Hi, Irina.
03:35You mentioned before about kind of getting back to basics, getting back on the hard court.
03:40What does that look like exactly for you?
03:43It's a routine.
03:45It's lots of rallies, lots of like basic work, like cross court.
03:53I don't know, it's just like kind of like not like going back to like really a small variety of
04:02the game.
04:03Do not go like too much into like these angles, drop shots, like surf and volley.
04:07Just kind of like bring back the baseline game, make sure I'm like really confident there, and then on top
04:13of that put some variety.
04:18Hi, Irina, I want to ask about your racket.
04:20I understand it's a Wilson Blade V10, and I understand it's a pretty light racket.
04:25I'm just curious how like a lighter feeling racket, you know, helps for just your game being more aggressive.
04:32I think you have wrong information.
04:34I don't think that my racket is pretty light.
04:36It's not?
04:37No.
04:38I've tried it.
04:39Like it feels like to me.
04:40What is not light for you?
04:41It just has like a lighter feeling to take the ball earlier, so I'm just curious.
04:46I said that my swing weight is pretty heavy.
04:49No.
04:49I don't know which racket you tried.
04:51No, I've tried the Wilson V10.
04:53Really?
04:54Yeah.
04:55It just means like your racket of choice now just helps your game.
04:58I just feel like the racket that I have, not the one that you tried, but the one that I
05:04have is actually, I would say it's like not heavy heavy, like medium heavy, but not light, definitely not light.
05:13And I just have more control because my hat is not that big, so it's like 97, oh my god.
05:22Yeah, 97 I think it is.
05:24So I have more control and power and yeah, I feel like it's really tough to miss with the racket.
05:31But I've been playing around, I adjusted my racket a little bit just so the ball fly a little bit
05:35more, and plus the control.
05:38So for me control is the key because I'm super powerful and if I go for the racket, I don't
05:46know, heavier racket, bigger hat, different weights, swing weight, I think my balls would go to the moon.
05:56I want to ask you about your approach to practice because of all the players I saw yesterday, nobody seemed
06:01to be having as much fun as you out there on the court, really interacting with the fans, having a
06:06lot of laughs out there.
06:07Have you always had that kind of approach to practice and is it important for you to make sure that
06:11you're also enjoying that process?
06:13I think it's just like my personality and the personality of my team, we always have fun and I feel
06:20like it's really important to enjoy the journey, enjoy the practice, bring some fun, do some fun, interact with the
06:28people.
06:29I think it's really important, it just like helps me to stay balanced.
06:34Hi, the WTA recently announced that, you know, the players will take a one-time gender test.
06:40How do you feel about that, the first pro league to go in that direction?
06:43I think it's really important to keep the fairness in our tour and it's obvious that biologically, right, the men
06:50are way stronger than women,
06:51so I feel like it would be not really fair for the women to compete against biological men.
06:58So I believe it took them a little while to make the decision and, yeah, I support it.
07:10But for me, I'm focusing on myself, on my goals, you know, whatever it takes.
07:14If they want to test us all, I'm happy to do that.
07:17It's pretty fair and let's keep it that way.
07:20Thanks.
07:21Thanks.
07:21Thanks.
07:22Thanks.
07:22Thanks.
07:22Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
07:23Thanks.
