00:10If professional zoos in such a limited number can barely meet its needs,

00:14how could an average person think of raising one at home?

00:17The red panda is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature,

00:24with fewer than 10,000 mature individuals left in the wild.

00:28Because of this classification, trading in and owning red pandas is completely banned

00:33in most countries under the site's convention, and even in countries that don't explicitly ban it.

00:39Extremely complex environmental permits are required,

00:42permits an average individual would struggle to obtain.

00:45Here's my personal opinion.

00:47Even assuming the law allowed it, the red panda is biologically unsuited for domestication in the first place.

00:54Documented behavior indicates it's a nocturnal crepuscular animal.

00:58Meaning it's active mostly from dusk until dawn, and sleeps more than 13 hours during the day.

01:03That means any cute interaction you see in videos is a rare exception.

01:08Not a natural lifestyle an average person with a daily schedule could adapt to.

01:12On top of that, it's a territorial animal by nature,

01:16tending to mark the boundaries of its area with a strong scent.

01:19Behavior that doesn't suit any residential home.

01:22Even licensed zoos need spaces of no less than 200 square meters per individual,

01:28with real climbing trees and a controlled temperature between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius,

01:33since it's extremely sensitive to high heat.

01:36Providing this kind of environment inside a regular home is practically and financially near impossible.

01:42The idea of keeping a red panda is far more appealing than the actual reality.

01:48The law forbids it, and biology itself works against it.
