00:00Thousands gathered at Putrajaya Wetlands Park on Sunday for a charity-run supporting conservation of the critically endangered Malayan tiger.
00:09Perak ruler and WWF Malaysia patron Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah flagged off the 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races held
00:18in conjunction with World Tiger Day.
00:21WWF Malaysia Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Sophia Lim said Sultan Nazrin's patronage has inspired the organization to remain
00:30committed to protecting the Malayan tiger,
00:34describing the species as both a national symbol and a vital part of Malaysia's forest ecosystem.
00:40The Malayan tiger remains critically endangered, but there is hope.
00:45And we have seen very positive signs, but we also know that our work to conserve the Malaysian tiger cannot
00:52stop.
00:52We need to continue to sustain it, and as we all know, the tiger is our national jata.
00:59By saving the tiger, by protecting the tiger for the future generations, it also helps to promote biodiversity, fresh water,
01:08nature, and all that.
01:10And of course, eventually having a very positive impact on climate change.
01:14Besides the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races, the event featured exhibitions and family-friendly activities to raise awareness of
01:23tiger conservation.
01:25Themed The Long Run, the event highlighted the long-term commitment needed to protect the species
01:31and also marked the 10th anniversary of the WWF Malaysia-Maybank partnership.
01:37Maybank Foundation Chief Executive Officer Islin Ramli said the strong turnout reflected broad support for wildlife conservation.
01:46In a joint statement, WWF Malaysia and Maybank said their decade-long collaboration has expanded ranger teams from 12 to
01:55150 personnel,
01:57deployed more than 500 camera traps, and strengthened protection efforts in Royal Balom State Park.
02:03Observed annually on July 29th, World Tiger Day is a global initiative to raise awareness of tiger conservation.
02:11This year's celebration, themed Roar for the Future, brought together organizations, government agencies, and the public to support efforts to
