00:00Lioness is back for season three. How does Taylor Sheridan send out the bat
00:05signal so to speak when the season three scripts are ready? Probably through my
00:09agent I would imagine my manager and but I always can't wait man when those
00:15come in you're just like you know first of all you skip the end and make sure
00:19you're still alive but it's for me it's always a thrill because I love his
00:25writing man I think he's one of the best guys to have ever done it like he's
00:29unbelievable. Right he's clearly you know one of the most prolific creators
00:33working today. How does his process differ from other showrunners creators you've
00:38worked with in the past? I mean you know you'd have to ask him about process but I
00:43know for me as an actor one of the greatest things about working on a
00:47Taylor Sheridan show is that when you get that script that's the script you're
00:52shooting and for an actor like myself who loves to prepare and know everything
00:57forward backwards and sometimes those monologues are pages long it it's very
01:02comforting to know that whatever you're memorizing is what you're gonna end up
01:05saying. And I hear he's very accessible to actors doing pre-production and the
01:10production process. Were you able to talk with him? Sure. If you ever have an issue or a
01:16thought or you know not that I'm I'm never gonna change any of his words but if
01:20something doesn't you know you're not understanding and especially with some of
01:24the things that I say I don't talk like that in my real life I'm not a CIA I'm
01:28not a deputy director of the CIA so a lot of this stuff you know even with my
01:32political science background there's still things that I'm like I'm not quite
01:36wrapping my head around this and you know have a conversation with you and and
01:40it's it's it's incredibly valuable to have that voice on set with you. At the
01:45end of Lioness season two Byron seems a bit disillusioned after the business with
01:50the cartel saying you know how little will change because of their actions.
01:55I think the longer you're away the harder it is to watch. Harder still to do. Easy to
02:02forget how ugly this keeping the peace could be. It's not what makes me sick what
02:06makes me sick is how little will change. How did that experience affect him? And in
02:11the world that I created for the character it's something that's happened
02:15before and it's something that will happen again you know these men and
02:21women in the CIA the ones that I've met the ones that I've talked to and got to
02:26know you know there's the mission right and that's the most important thing and
02:31sometimes it's the sacrifice of family and everything you're sacrificing to to
02:36carry out the mission so I think for them it is part of the job there is a
02:42reality to it that's that's probably sickening to some and not to others you
02:48know Byron Byron I think he carries a lot with him you know I don't think it's as
02:56easy for him as it is for others. And where does the Lioness program fall on his
03:03list of priorities in the world that you've created for him? Very high I think you
03:09know he's dealing with a lot right but that to him I think is because of his
03:17relationship with Caitlin right I think that they have such a bond the two of
03:21them and can count on each other no matter what that's it's it's I think
03:26that's a big part of it for him. And you mentioned before you have a lot of
03:29scenes with Nicole Kidman as Caitlin Mead how would you describe her as a scene
03:33partner? I mean she's one of the best right I I say it all the time I'm sitting
03:39with three Academy Award winners at that table and it just the talent blows my
03:44mind Nicole Kidman is she's one of our best and so to get to to play with her on a
03:50daily basis and I live for those scenes in the situation room with you know those
03:59three Oscar winners Bruce McGill you Jennifer Isle yeah are those the best
04:05days on set? I love them I have so much fun it because when you're rehearsing it
04:12you're going over it on yourself and everything but then when you get in
04:15there you know we did one this year that was 12 minutes long there's a 12
04:19minute scene that we shot over two days 12 minutes is a very long time the two of
04:24us are going to talk for 10 minutes whatever it is here imagining one scene
04:29with all those people so you'd like you're you're doing these little mini
04:33plays within the show sometimes and it's to do it with the best it's it's just I
04:41have a great job I have a great job. Lioness and Jack Ryan might be the two most
04:47topical narrative shows on television in recent years are people aware of that
04:52responsibility on set? The Lioness is a real program who are representing people
04:56who are willing to do all the things that they do to make it possible for me
05:01to sit here on this couch and you stand back there and live our lives as free as
05:05we do here in this country so I feel not just incredibly grateful but I feel a deep
05:14responsibility to portray them in the best light that I can because to me what
05:19those people do is you know it's everything like I said it's why I get to
05:24sit on this comfy couch and shoot the shit for a little bit you know I'm grateful.
05:29How proud are you to be able to tell stories like Lioness? I'm incredibly proud to be a
05:36part of a Taylor Sheridan show in any way but to tell the story of these women like you
05:42know to be on a show with women playing the central characters that are almost
05:49always played by men I feel that's that's why I feel most proud and grateful
05:54because I get to see the women shine and that's it's it's pretty cool when they shine
