00:00I'm Wyndham Stokes and I'm Matt Day, the artist.
00:02I just wanted a nature theme. I love nature.
00:07And so I messaged Matt and I gave him free reign to do what he wants.
00:12All I said is I want nature.
00:13So he sent me an overlay of what he was going to do and I was happy.
00:20A once ordinary yellow semi-detached house has become a colourful celebration of British wildlife.
00:26And it's all thanks to an artist who showcased his work at this year's Bristol's Upfest.
00:33Wyndham Stokes has lived in his home in Traharis, Wales for almost seven decades.
00:37But he says he wanted something a little different.
00:41The result is a nature-inspired mural covering the front of his house,
00:45featuring a robin, blue tit, rabbit and a red kite, which was Wyndham's only request.
00:52The artwork was created in just five days by mural artist Matt Day.
00:56who used spray paint and acrylic to transform the space.
01:01Matt, who began designing murals after the Covid pandemic,
01:05appeared at Upfest in Bristol, Europe's largest street art festival,
01:09where artists come from across the world to showcase their work.
01:12He says every large-scale mural brings its own challenges,
01:16but seeing the reaction from the community makes it worthwhile.
01:19And the project isn't quite finished yet.
01:47First house I've done, yeah.
01:49The red kite up in the corner, it's filling up, yeah.
01:52And he says there's a lot of red kites, so it made sense.
01:54Yes, it is.
01:55And Matt is on about putting a pine marten on it.
01:58A bigger one, a large one.
02:00Yeah, yeah, like a big piece, like one big character.
02:03And just follow the foliage round in nature.
02:07Like I said, I'm happy.
02:08I give him a free range.
02:10People drive up there just to see it and stop and,
02:13can I take photos?
02:14I'm saying, help yourself, it makes no difference to me.
02:16And he puts a smile on people's faces.
02:18They drive round that corner and they just see it.
02:21You can't miss it, can you really?
02:22You just come round the corner there into the estate, you can't miss it.
02:24I had a lot of fun doing the little rabbit at the bottom,
02:26because it was just fluffy and little whimsical with the lighting.
02:29I did enjoy the robin, so I enjoyed all of it,
02:33but I started with the robin, so, yeah.
02:36I think that was initially the favourite piece.
02:38Yeah.
02:38It kind of was the winner.
02:40I do like the robin, but I also like the water droplets on the ladybirds.
02:46Like, how you can get that done is amazing.
02:48Because I wasn't here when he finished.
02:50I was away.
02:51So I didn't see it until the Tuesday morning.
02:54Oh, I was over the moon.
02:55Like I said, I can't fault it whatsoever.
02:57I love it.
02:58And everybody else does.
