00:00talk about a record high. For the first time ever, more Americans use marijuana on a daily basis
00:06than alcohol or cigarettes. A new federal survey found about 21 million Americans used cannabis
00:12daily or nearly every day last year, compared to about 17 million who drank alcohol that often,
00:18and just under 20 million who smoked cigarettes. Now, before you think America has turned into one
00:24giant Cheech and Chong movie, alcohol is still far more popular overall. About 129 million people
00:31said they had a drink in the past month, compared to about 44 million who used marijuana. The
00:37difference is habit. Only about 13% of people who drink do so every day. Well, as many as half
00:44of
00:44monthly marijuana users say they use it daily or nearly daily. The survey also found younger adults
00:50aren't necessarily drinking less because they're smoking more. Instead, the biggest growth in daily
00:56cannabis use is coming from adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
