00:10Das ist ein 2026 MINI.
00:12Small, Expressive,
00:13Instantly recognisable.
00:15Aber heute könnte es auch ein bisschen wie dieses.
00:20Interessant, ist es?
00:21Du hast es richtig gehört.
00:22Es war nicht immer so klar, wie man könnte denken.
00:24Aber hier haben wir,
00:26wir mussten was die impossiblee Aufgabe machen.
00:28Ja, das ist ein bisschen wild.
00:30Das ist die Geschichte von einem neuen Original.
00:34Oh, sorry.
00:35Ich habe es vergessen.
00:36Das ist Adrian,
00:37Head von BMW Group Design.
00:39Er hat es zuerst erlebt.
00:42Aber zu verstehen,
00:43warum das eine impossible Aufgabe war,
00:45müssen wir zurückgehen.
00:47Way zurück.
00:49In den vergangenen 1950s,
00:51Sir Alikis Agones designed a car
00:53als eine Antwort auf die Wirtschaftskrise.
00:55Es sollte thrifty und konsumtion,
00:57Rumi,
01:29Es war all over die News.
01:31BMW war buying Rover.
01:33You heard right.
01:34BMW bought Rover.
01:36And Rover owned,
01:37guess what?
01:38Mini.
01:39This was the chance to take an Icon
01:41and create a new original.
01:43The brief was very open.
01:44Design a new Mini.
01:45But how do you touch a legend without breaking it?
01:48Too much change and you lose the soul.
01:50Too little and you lose the point.
01:52That was the almost impossible task.
01:54We did a huge competition.
01:56Designers from both Rover and BMW started working on the same question.
02:00Almost 40 years, the very same car, untouched.
02:04And then all of a sudden we had to translate that into the present and into the future.
02:10The stakes couldn't have been higher.
02:12It was a piece of British identity.
02:16The press was watching.
02:17The fans were watching.
02:19Different directions began to emerge.
02:21Interpretations of what Mini could be.
02:23I tried to think of the car as a rally car.
02:26Adrian's design was one of three designs to be built as a concept car.
02:30The ACV30.
02:32Next, Rover presented its concept.
02:34The spiritual.
02:35You get very different trains of thoughts in the different locations.
02:39In the end product, you also see somehow a mix of the ideas.
02:43A car that is very small, so it makes clever use of space.
02:48But it is quite a low car with the wheels on the corners.
02:51So I think a little bit of the rally history did actually come into the final design.
02:57The moment of decision has come and with it a lot of questions.
03:01Everybody was hoping that, of course, they were going to recognize some of the original Mini in the new one.
03:08It was time for the reveal.
03:12The new Mini was here and people loved it.
03:15It was a very exciting new start.
03:18The almost impossible task had been solved.
03:21So it seemed.
03:23What it really did was open the next door towards a new original.
03:29By the way, meet Holger, head of Mini Design.
03:32He can tell you what it took to make the new Mini an icon of its own.
03:38It started with a foundation.
03:40A set of things that were simply never up for discussion.
03:43The overall proportions of the car.
03:45Speed or hatchback, wheels on the corner, the lovable details.
03:48Built on that foundation, Mini grew.
03:50From one car to an entire family.
03:53I'm very happy that we take the philosophy of Mini forward and expand it into other areas of purpose.
04:01And step by step, Mini became something more.
04:03People using Mini as an extension of lifestyle.
04:06Customization became even more part of the identity.
04:09There's not one Mini that looks like the Mini next to it.
04:13People started applying their own style.
04:15Their own story.
04:16It allows us to extend our personality.
04:19At that point, Mini had started to grow beyond the car itself.
04:23And just like the original Mini found its way into culture,
04:26today's Mini is doing the same.
04:29Collaborations are adding even more character.
04:31The process in of itself is so interesting and brings forward completely new things
04:37that we haven't done with Mini before.
04:39And at the heart of all of it, it builds a relationship.
04:43The Mini is one of these cars I want people to attach to.
04:47I want to see a relationship happening.
04:50And that's possible with Mini.
04:5420 years into this ownership came the next step, the boldest in years.
04:59We introduced a radically new design.
05:02For some, almost too different.
05:04But in reality, closer to the original than ever before.
05:07And something interesting happened.
05:09People started missing things that never even existed in the original Mini.
05:14Over time, the reference had shifted.
05:17Think about what that means.
05:19Mini was no longer only measured against its past.
05:22It had started defining its own.
05:24Society and culture creates an icon or selects something to become an icon.
05:31Today, we could say the almost impossible task had been solved.
05:34But in reality, the opposite happened.
05:36It grew.
05:38Design is never finished.
05:39We will always continue developing along these lines.
05:42Mini created some icons along the way.
05:44And we'll try again.
05:46But it's not an easy task.
05:49And quite honestly, it was never supposed to be solved.
05:53Only to be carried forward.
06:07sizesies
06:08was to be solved.
06:09So
06:09we can get started.
06:09We can fire someise
