00:00They are both super fast, Ajayi, the third fastest in the world of this year with 9.84.
00:07The semi has been in incredible form too.
00:10Let's take a look at these men, the Ghanaian, Benjamin Azamati.
00:15He was a football player as a kid, his P teacher told him to take up running and how that's
00:19worked.
00:19He won his heat yesterday.
00:21The season best of ten seconds said it was four, four years ago.
00:24Can he go at least one place better here to get a medal?
00:26The powerfully built Australian, Edward Nketiah.
00:31Boy, he's the biggest fella out there.
00:33There's a few rugby clubs who would like his presence on their books.
00:36There's no doubt about that.
00:38He goes in to the Aussie.
00:40Lachlan Kennedy's teammate right beside him.
00:42Now he did play rugby.
00:43Actually, Rugby Union is a unit junior for Australia, the man from Brisbane.
00:48Personal best in his semi-final, 9.94.
00:51Don't discount Lachlan Kennedy, he's a quick starter.
00:55Kainzola Ajayi goes in lane four.
00:57The 21-year-old Nigerian, sixth in the World Championship last year.
01:00He won the Diamond League in London last week in 9.84.
01:04He's in wonderful form.
01:05He won his semi-final two in 9.94 here tonight, just a couple of hours ago.
01:09The Cameroonian Emmanuel Aceme goes in lane five.
01:14He won his semi-final in 9.89.
01:16A new national record in that red strip.
01:19Fifth in the World Indoors in 2026.
01:21He makes the most of every metre of the hundred.
01:24And his form recently has been fantastic.
01:26Ghibliot Leyla of South Africa.
01:29Well, the South Africans with a brace of performers in this one.
01:33Makes you wonder if they can get amongst the medals.
01:35He goes in lane six, Ghibliot Leyla.
01:38Can he get a gift here for South Africa?
01:43Jeremiah Azou of Wales.
01:45A big roar for him with plenty of Welsh supporters in the crowd.
01:47He was fifth four years ago.
01:50European Indoor Champion last year.
01:52A couple of weeks later, he took the World Indoor title.
01:55And he won his heat in 10.10.
01:57He's in great form, Azou.
02:00Chezwell Johnson of South Africa.
02:01He won his heat in 10.21.
02:04His lifetime best 10.02.
02:06He was a world-class long jumper with a switch to focus upon sprinting.
02:09Has certainly worked a treat, hasn't it?
02:12Because he finds himself here in this Commonwealth Games final.
02:15We are guaranteed a new champion.
02:17Ferdi Ominyala dipped out at the semi-final stage.
02:21Just didn't have the legs on this occasion.
02:23The powerfully-built Kenyan.
02:29Five Africans, though, go in this final.
02:34Esseme.
02:35Does he start here as favourite?
02:37Won the African Championships.
02:38He already has a goal from earlier on this summer.
02:40That was in Accra in Ghana in May.
02:449.89 in his semi-final.
02:47Ajayi in lane four.
02:499.94 in his semi-final.
02:53Don't forget Lachlan Kennedy in his semi-final.
02:569.94.
02:57He's broached new ground here tonight.
02:59The Commonwealth Games 100 metres final.
03:02Azamati of Ghana in one.
03:03Edward Nketjira of Australia two.
03:05Lachlan Kennedy of Australia in three.
03:06Ajayi in Nigeria four.
03:08Esseme Cameroon five.
03:09Liot Leila South Africa six.
03:10The Welshman Azu seven.
03:12South Africa's Johnson in lane eight.
03:14To left of picture.
03:16All the way they go.
03:17Really good start there from Ajayi in the green of Nigeria.
03:20And look at Lachlan Kennedy.
03:21Kennedy is matching him stride for stride.
03:23He might even take this one.
03:24And he is going to take it or does he?
03:26No.
03:27Coming through the SMA for Cameroon.
03:29Wow.
03:30Talk about holding up form through the last ten metres.
03:33I would have sworn Lachlan Kennedy was going to take that one.
03:36Five metres out, he was in the lead.
03:38He chased down Ajayi.
03:40He'd worn him into fatigue there through the last 50.
03:43Lachlan Kennedy did everything necessary for the champion.
03:47Is Emmanuel Asseme from Cameroon.
03:49Winner of his semi-final in nine eight nine.
03:52Nine eight three.
03:53It's a new games record.
03:55Boy.
03:56Oh boy.
03:57And he had to run that fast to get the better of Kennedy.
04:01There's no doubt about that.
04:02Because the winning time.
04:05Nine eight three.
04:06He was only two hundreds and hundreds quicker than Kennedy's
04:09massive new Australasian record.
04:11Not just an Aussie record.
04:12An Australasian record for Kennedy.
04:15A superb silver.
04:16And that's without Gout Gout even being here.
04:19And Ajayi.
04:20Well, he took the bronze in nine nine zero.
04:22Nine nine one.
04:24For Lyot Leila.
04:25Not even good enough to get on the roster.
04:27Well, Danny Craig's looked up the stat earlier on.
04:30We haven't had a win at the Commonwealth Games in sub ten seconds
04:33since Kim Collins in 2002.
04:38But now Emmanuel Asseme shatters Atto Bolden's games record set back in 1998.
04:44Low as that by five hundredths of a second.
04:47The writing was probably on the wall, wasn't it?
04:49In those semi-finals.
04:51And Asseme, he didn't get the best start.
04:54We'll have a look at the replay.
04:55I think his reaction time was all right.
04:57But then he was just left in the first ten or twenty meters.
05:01Lachlan Kennedy exploded out of the blocks.
05:04It was nine ninety four for him in the semi-final.
05:07And he's found nearly another tenth.
05:10He's been chasing that Australian record for so, so long.
05:14And finally, it's his alongside the Commonwealth Games silver.
05:19You know, I wonder.
05:20He's been on the circuit.
05:21He's been running the Diamond League races.
05:22And he's probably walked away from those thinking,
05:24oh, you know, I'd love to run an Aussie record on that sort of stage.
05:28And those wonderful stadiums with great competition.
05:31But I think it's a little sweeter when it comes here to Commonwealth Games.
05:35And it's accompanied with a medal.
05:37Let's wait on this replay.
05:38But for me, Kyansola Ajayi, he's a little bit tight in the first 50 meters.
05:43And in so many of his races this season, the Nigerian,
05:46it's just kind of happened in the last 50 meters.
05:49He's just put his foot down, increased the cadence and pulled away from everyone.
05:52But today, the Nigerian was under intense pressure,
05:55and he couldn't come up with the goods.
05:58What I loved about this one, Hannah, was the way that Aceme stuck at it.
06:02A lot of people would have tightened up there with it.
06:05Seemed like Ajayi and Kennedy in the blue yellow there ahead of him and beating him.
06:09But over the last 10 meters, he must have taken a meter and a half out of them.
06:13It was astonishing, his form through the last 10 meters.
06:15Talk about mind over matter.
06:17Wins there from Lachlan Kennedy, 983 to 985.
06:22It looked like more daylight in that frozen shot, but it's a game's record for him.
06:27Kennedy's consolation for that silver so close to the win was that area record.
06:32And what a massive New Aussie record, of course.
06:36For a moment, you thought Kennedy had it there, didn't you?
06:38I think for a moment, Kennedy thought he had it.
06:40It's never over to you across the line.
06:43But Emmanuel Asame just comes through in the last stages of the race.
06:47But we have waited so long to get a sub-10 Commonwealth Final,
06:52and we get four under sub-10 in these conditions.
06:56Men's sprinting in the Commonwealth is so, so strong at the minute.
07:00Well, Lachlan Kennedy's silver, the first ever Australian medal in the men's 100 meters.
07:06Azu was fifth. He ties the best ever Welsh finish in this event.
07:09He was also fifth back in 2022 himself.
07:12And...
07:22Let's go!
