01:13Everything on this week's episode of Tech Today with me is Cyrus. But first, let's kick things off with the
01:19top tech headlines of the week.
01:25OpenAI has named Hyderabad-born Udaya Rudra Raju as the new Chief Technology Officer for Compute at OpenAI.
01:32An engineering graduate from Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology, Udaya joined OpenAI last year after leadership roles at Microsoft and
01:40XAI.
01:41He now oversees the computing infrastructure powering ChatGPT and future AI models, becoming one of the most prominent Indian origin
01:49leaders in the global AI industry.
01:55The U.S. government has accused Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI of secretly distilling Anthropics Advanced Claude Fable model to
02:04build its powerful new Kimit K3 AI.
02:07U.S. officials have called the alleged large-scale extraction of AI capabilities unacceptable and hinted that sanctions could follow
02:14if the claims are proven.
02:17Moonshot has not accepted the allegations.
02:24OpenAI has disclosed an unprecedented incident in which two of its advanced AI models escaped a controlled testing environment
02:32and autonomously hacked the AI platform HuggingFace to obtain answers during a cybersecurity evaluation.
02:39The company says the breach has since been contained and, interestingly, HuggingFace relied on a Chinese open-source AI model
02:47to help analyze and contain the attack after other models proved ineffective.
02:59Do you remember the time when AI could not think beyond a certain timeline?
03:05Like when ChatGPT was launched, it couldn't give any real-time updates and could only share content up to a
03:11certain point.
03:12However, AI in 2026 is a very different story because now AI is analyzing medical scans, writing code and doing
03:20so much more.
03:22But how did it get this smart and this fast?
03:26You'd be surprised to know that the answer to this question is us.
03:31We are making AI smarter.
03:34All of us.
03:34Every question we ask, every document we rephrase and every photo or video we upload is used for training these
03:42systems.
03:43But there is more to all of this.
03:46So, in our big tech story, we are talking about how humans are training AI, maybe even accidentally.
03:53Which tech giants are using your private chats?
03:57Can they read or see what you upload?
03:59And how can you make all of this stop?
04:02Everything in this segment.
04:04On almost every free account on ChatGPT or Claude,
04:08your daily prompts, quick rewrites and thumbs up or thumbs down feedback are automatically collected to fine tune the system.
04:17And it's not just typed prompts.
04:19Voice conversations with AI assistants,
04:22the photos you upload for it to analyze or beautify,
04:25even video calls where you share your screen.
04:29All of that counts as an interaction from which models can learn from.
04:34Every time you correct an answer,
04:35you are actively teaching the model how to be better for the next person.
04:40The feedback is then logged.
04:42Through a process called reinforcement learning from human feedback,
04:46the model learns what humans prefer.
04:50And it's just not ChatGPT, by the way.
04:52This is how the whole AI business works right now.
04:56Every major platform out there has hundreds of millions of people using it at this exact moment.
05:02People are talking to it and showing their screens,
05:06sending photos and voice notes, doing so much.
05:09Every format we use becomes another stream of training data for the AI.
05:13And all of that, every little interaction,
05:17this whole set of instructions that you give to AI is said to train the model by default,
05:24whether you think about it or not.
05:27However, not everyone has to share their data this way.
05:32Paid corporate plans and developer APIs like ChatGPT Enterprise,
05:36Gemini for Google Workspace or Claude for Workspace
05:39operate under strict contractual zero data retention agreements
05:44where company data is completely isolated and legally blocked from model training.
05:49But for everyday users, the biggest vulnerability isn't just what you type.
05:55It's also what you upload or attach.
05:59When you upload a PDF, a financial spreadsheet or a photo of a document,
06:04the AI breaks down every word and image,
06:07turning your document into raw data attached to your account.
06:12That means sensitive personal records, tax forms or confidential strategy notes
06:17can become permanently embedded into the underlying memory of future software updates.
06:27Alright, so we will get to how you can actually fix this in your setting,
06:33but that's coming up, wait for it.
06:35First, let's sit with a bigger, slightly more uncomfortable question.
06:39Where does all of this data actually go to and who is really looking at it?
06:45Is it just AI or is there a human behind it?
06:47Because if you are picturing your upload sitting in some locked digital vault
06:53that nobody can touch, that's not quite the reality.
06:56Third-party contractors go through your prompts.
06:59Safety teams hold on to your files long after you even hit delete.
07:04Your digital footprint is a lot bigger and lasts a lot longer than most of us assume.
07:16So even after you hit delete, your prompts don't disappear immediately.
07:22Platforms usually keep them for 30 days just to handle security and compliance.
07:26And this isn't limited to your typed messages.
07:29The same 30-day holding pattern applies to voice recordings,
07:33uploaded photos and video sessions as well.
07:36But the bigger issue here is that AI is terrible at moderating itself.
07:42An algorithm can catch basic keywords,
07:44but it misses sarcasm, double meanings or clever tricks people use to bypass safety rules.
07:50It can't tell the difference between a harmless joke and a genuine security threat.
07:56That's why tech companies still need real people reviewing these chats.
08:02They hire data firms like Scale AI, Appen and Summer,
08:07where human teams go through flagged messages every day.
08:10They read the prompt, correct mistakes and basically teach or direct the system
08:15on how humans actually talk.
08:18So no, nobody is sitting there spying on your personal account.
08:22But real people do read these chat logs every day
08:25simply because automated filters aren't smart enough to handle human context on their own.
08:37If you don't like the idea of AI using your data to train its AI,
08:41you have the option of taking back control.
08:44Here's how you can do it.
08:45On ChatGPT, open Settings, head to Data Controls and turn off
08:50Improve the model for everyone's setting.
08:53On Google Gemini, you need to turn off Gemini Apps activity in your activity settings,
08:59while cloud users must disable model improvement under the Privacy tab.
09:04Using temporary or incognito chat modes also prevent history from being saved or used for future model updates.
09:12But toggles only protect future prompts.
09:14They won't wipe data that's already been trained into existing models.
09:19That permanent data trail is why regulators worldwide are stepping in.
09:24Globally, Western governments are forcing tech giants to build clear opt-out switches.
09:29Under Europe's AI Act, for example, platforms are legally barred from
09:34scraping copyright-protected creative work or using automated facial recognition databases
09:39without explicit permissions.
09:41Here in India, the government is taking a direct consent-first stance.
09:46Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, companies can no longer hide behind long, vague terms of service agreements.
09:54If a hospital uses AI to summarize medical reports, or a bank uses a chatbot to handle customer loans,
10:00they cannot quietly take that personal financial or health data and feed it into a global AI training model.
10:08The law enforces explicit user consent, strict purpose limits, and mandatory data deletion once the task is finished.
10:18All right, look, laws and these guardrails can only do so much.
10:22At the end of the day, the real firewall, I believe, is you people.
10:26What you choose to type, upload, or say out loud to the chatbot in the first place is important.
10:32So, here's the simple rule.
10:34If you wouldn't want it printed on a billboard or advertised, do not hand it to any AI.
10:41No passwords, no financial records, no medical history, nothing.
10:45You would call a trade secret.
10:47Because once that information goes in and gets absorbed into training, there is no pulling it back out.
10:53It's there for good.
10:56However, the good news over here, fixing this takes a matter of seconds, it's not hours.
11:01Open your settings, flip those data controls, and just be a little more thoughtful about what you share next time.
11:07Because these tools are genuinely changing how we work.
11:11That part is all real.
11:12But your privacy shouldn't be at the cost of using these AI tools.
11:23Apple is taking on OpenAI in a fresh lawsuit that could decide the future of both these companies and the
11:29hardware that they are about to launch in the future.
11:31Get this, on the 10th of this month, Apple walked into a federal court in North California and threw the
11:39law book at OpenAI.
11:41Theft of company secrets, mass talent poaching, straight up IP theft.
11:46Apple is basically saying OpenAI tried to shortcut heirs of hardware engineering by stealing Apple's most guarded secrets.
11:54This is big, so stick with me because I am going to break down exactly how this happened and what
12:01it could mean for your, maybe the next iPhone, the next AI device by OpenAI, and yes, your chat GPT
12:07app as well.
12:12So, here is the setup as reported by several platforms.
12:16Over 400 formal Apple employees are now working at OpenAI.
12:21And Apple says some of that hiring crossed a serious line.
12:25The claim is that OpenAI's hardware chief, Tang Yu Tan, personally told job candidates, people still working at Apple, to
12:33bring actual Apple parts, prototypes, even CAD files, to their interviews.
12:39One candidate was apparently so surprised, he told Apple he didn't even know you could take that stuff out of
12:46the building.
12:47According to media reports, Apple believes this wasn't just people quitting for a better job.
12:52The company claims that OpenAI, through its hardware team, I.O. Products, worked together on purpose to build its own
13:00hardware business using Apple's secrets.
13:03And this wasn't just one or two bad employees.
13:06The lawsuit claims it happened at every level, from regular workers to all the way up to OpenAI's hardware boss.
13:15Then there is Chang Liu, eight years at Apple as an electrical engineer, left for OpenAI in early 2026.
13:23Reports suggest he never returned his company laptop, used a colleague to slip into Apple's internal network, found an authentication
13:31bug nobody knew existed, and walked away with dozens of confidential files, including specs on products that haven't even launched
13:39yet.
13:41The people accused of building OpenAI's secret hardware division, are literally the same people who built the iPhone in the
13:49first place.
13:51Are you seeing a pattern over here?
13:52The iPhone makers are now at OpenAI making an AI device.
13:59Tank Tan, 24 years at Apple, ran product design for the iPhone and Apple Watch.
14:05In 2024, he left Cupertino to join Johnny Ives' design startup, I.O. Products.
14:12Then, OpenAI buys that startup for somewhere around $6.5 billion.
14:17And Tan walks in as OpenAI's chief hardware officer.
14:22Apple names him directly as a defendant, accusing him of using old Apple codenames to pump candidates for information, emailing
14:30himself supplier data on his way out the door.
14:34And basically, running the whole operation.
14:38And this person, Tan, is not new to any kind of trouble.
14:42Not this person, this is Sam Ortman from OpenAI.
14:45A separate company called IYO, which makes AI earbuds, already sued OpenAI, Johnny Ives, who was formerly at Apple, and
14:53also Sam Ortman, over trademark issues and later added its own trade secrets and claims naming Tan.
15:01Different lawsuits, different plaintiffs, but it adds to the pattern Apple is trying to paint over here.
15:06But what makes Apple go hard at this now?
15:10It's because AI isn't staying on your phone screen anymore.
15:13It's about to live in physical gadgets, which will come in the future.
15:18Now, OpenAI hasn't announced what its hardware actually is, not yet.
15:22But everyone can see where all of this is headed.
15:26And the best part is, Apple can see it too.
15:30Here's what Apple is actually asking the court for.
15:33An order stopping OpenAI and everyone named from using or sharing Apple's trade secrets, forcing them to hand back Apple's
15:41property and locking down evidence before anything conveniently disappears.
15:46That's not the same as shutting down OpenAI's entire supply chain.
15:50Let's not overstate it.
15:52But if a judge grants it, it could genuinely slow down Apple's hardware plans right as the company is reportedly
16:00gearing up for a massive IPO.
16:02And here's the part that actually hits your phone directly.
16:07When ChatGPT joined Apple Intelligence back in 2024, it was framed as the perfect partnership.
16:13That partnership is looking a lot shakier now.
16:16Apple hasn't said whether this lawsuit changes anything about the ChatGPT integration still sitting on your iPhone.
16:23But here's a clue they made obvious.
16:26The upcoming Siri overhaul is switching over to Google's Gemini instead of OpenAI.
16:36Alright, look, this is way bigger than just one lawsuit.
16:41This is really the first big fight over who controls the future of AI in gadgets.
16:46And OpenAI has a lot on its plate right now.
16:49Just two months ago, it won a court case against Elon Musk, who claimed Sam Altman and Greg Brockman broke
16:56their promise to keep OpenAI a non-profit.
16:59Now, OpenAI won that case.
17:02Now, Apple's lawsuit, another case from IYO and OpenAI is getting ready for a big stock market launch.
17:10That's a lot at stake.
17:12All of it at once.
17:14And as this case moves forward, OpenAI's private emails and hardware plans could get exposed.
17:21Remember, none of Apple's claims have been proven yet.
17:25And OpenAI is denying all of this.
17:28But no matter how this ends, it's going to change how every tech company handles secrets, hiring and the new
17:35hardware from now on.
17:51So, on the Take Today show, we juggle a lot of things, right?
17:54Different technologies, just like this guy is juggling.
17:56Very talented, but I can't do the same with these devices.
17:59Expensive ones indeed.
18:00But I'm sure you would have seen these designs out there in the market.
18:04But this one is something new.
18:06And this one could definitely change the way we look at foldables.
18:10Introducing the new Galaxy smartphones.
18:12But big, big headline maker is this one, the Z Fold 8.
18:16A quick first look of all of these devices and what you'll be getting if you want to buy one
18:21of these.
18:28Three new galaxies have landed in India.
18:31The Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Fold 8 Ultra and the Flip 8.
18:35Prices start at Rs 1,24,999 for the Flip and go all the way up to Rs 1,99
18:41,999 for the 8 Ultra.
18:45Interestingly though, if you were expecting a brand new design, you may be disappointed.
18:50Visually, these phones look very similar to last year's models.
18:54This year, Samsung is betting on better hardware and smarter software instead of a dramatic redesign.
19:02But the big surprise is the Fold 8 with its new book style design.
19:08Now foldable smartphones have been there for a while now, almost have gone mainstream.
19:13However, the innovation in this department has kind of stalled.
19:17Beyond folding, they don't really offer much.
19:19But with the Fold 8, we have a different story now.
19:23Because this book style innovation is kind of redefining how foldables could be in the future.
19:28Because I am sure you would have never seen something like this till now.
19:32This is the everyday foldable with a 7.6 inch internal display and a 5.5 inch cover screen.
19:38Now the cover screen is a 10 to 16 ratio, which is the ratio on which reels and shots are
19:46actually shot on, are actually meant to be consumed.
19:49So on the cover screen, you can just scroll and consume that content and it becomes more immersive.
19:55And once you open this into landscape, it comes in a 4 is to 3 ratio, which is the ratio
20:02in which most of all the movies are actually shot.
20:05And if you turn it into portrait, it becomes a 3 is to 4, which is actually the aspect ratio
20:10in which books are written or a web page is rendered.
20:14Powering this one is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with a 4,800 mAh battery.
20:20At just 201 grams, Samsung says it's the lightest Galaxy Fold yet.
20:24But it's practical in many ways, especially if you consume a lot of content.
20:30The dual 50 megapixel rear camera gets creator-focused features like dual recording and my fan cam.
20:39Although on paper, this isn't a huge camera upgrade over previous generations.
20:44Now what I just loved about last year's Z Fold 7 is that it was the perfect foldable phone.
20:50It was slim, it was compact and the best part, it had all the bells and whistles that you would
20:55want in a foldable smartphone.
20:56Now Samsung has just gone one step ahead with the Z Fold 8 Ultra, which now is much lighter and
21:03also a bit slimmer, almost hardly noticeable.
21:07But the new tech that is inside the smartphone is the Flex Titanium that they are using, which kind of
21:12makes this whole hinge mechanism much better.
21:15And also the fact that the crease is relatively lesser than before.
21:19We have introduced a new display technology, which is Flex Titanium.
21:24What essentially it does is, it makes the device slimmer, it makes the device lighter and at the same time
21:32the crease on the foldables is actually virtually non-existent.
21:38The Fold 8 Ultra is clearly aimed at power users, it's Samsung's most premium foldable yet and packs the biggest
21:45upgrades of the line-up.
21:47You get the same 8L 8 Gen 5 chipset, but with a larger 5000 mAh battery, faster 45W charging and
21:54a flagship 200MP main camera joined by a 50MP ultrawide sensor.
22:00You also get a 10MP telephoto lens.
22:03As the most premium offering, it's meant only for a specific audience.
22:09The new Flex Titanium construction is designed to make the phone thinner without compromising on durability.
22:16The hinge is more stiff as compared to the Fold 8 and yet folds better.
22:22Now, in terms of the performance, this one is indeed a multitasking beast.
22:26We have experienced something similar on the Z Fold 7 and this one, yes, comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite
22:31Gen 5, which is a fantastic, fantastic processor.
22:35It gives you not only the performance enhancement, it also makes sure that you get great battery life.
22:40And 5000 mAh battery on a foldable phone just changes the game when you're talking about an all-day smartphone.
22:47But the new thing that you may get to experience and just enhance your overall productivity is the AI engine
22:53inside this phone.
22:55Samsung wants this to replace your laptop whenever possible.
22:59The larger display supports advanced split-screen multitasking, drag-and-drop between app features and new Galaxy AI that can
23:07summarize notes, organize documents and even help draft emails.
23:13That said, unlike the Fold 8, the Ultra doesn't look dramatically different from last year's model.
23:19Most of the upgrades are internal, so if you already own a recent Galaxy Fold, this may feel more like
23:25a refinement than a complete redesign.
23:28And beyond the book-style foldable smartphones that we have already seen, there is also a segment that just loves
23:34these flip phones and the new Flip 8 also offers these new updates which you will just love.
23:40And beyond phones, we also have these smartwatches, one for the fitness enthusiast and the other, the daily driver.
23:46Let's check them out.
23:48The Galaxy Z Flip continues to focus on style and convenience.
23:51The biggest upgrade here is the new 4.1-inch edge-to-edge display,
23:56giving you more room to reply to messages, control music, check directions or even use Galaxy AI features without opening
24:03the phone.
24:05Inside, you get a 6.9-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate powered by Samsung's Exynos 2600 processor.
24:13The Flip 8 also gets a larger 4300-inch battery, a 50-megapixel main camera paired with a 12-megapixel
24:20ultrawide sensor.
24:22Samsung says AI now plays a much bigger role in all of these devices.
24:26Alongside the phones, Samsung has also refreshed its smartwatch lineup with the Galaxy Watch 8 series.
24:32The new watches bring a brighter display, updated health tracking and deeper Galaxy AI integration, making them natural companion for
24:40Samsung's latest smartphones.
24:41Now, all three smartphones look really impressive.
24:44This is a first look.

24:50Now, remember, there are other companies working on similar design and we might be seeing another foldable in the market
24:57in the coming months that could look something like this.
25:00But again, those are just rumors.
