00:52Coffee first, then everything else.
00:56Good afternoon and welcome to Beyond the Headlines. I'm DJ Moises. And today's conversation is brought to us by Coffee
01:03First.
01:04What does Vice President Sara Duterte's six-point jump in the latest Pulse Asia survey really mean?
01:13Today, we look deeper and think better.
01:17The latest Pulse Asia survey shows the Vice President strengthening her position in the potential 2028 presidential race, climbing from
01:2843% in the first quarter to 49% in the second quarter.
01:34Former Vice President and Mayor Lenny Robredo remains in second place at 26%, while Senator Rafi Tulfo slips to 14%.
01:45The Pulse Asia interview were conducted from June 28 to July 3, 2026, during one of the most politically charged
01:56periods of the year.
01:58On May 11, 2026, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, while Senator Alan Peter Cayetano
02:08was elected Senate President.
02:10But two days later, the attempted arrest of Senator Ronald Bato de la Rosa inside the Senate complex sparked the
02:20Senate siege.
02:21On June 17, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian was elected Senate President, ending the leadership crisis.
02:30And on July 6, the Senate convened as an impeachment court and formally began the trial of Vice President Sara
02:37Duterte.
02:38Why did Vice President Sara Duterte gain six points despite shifting political alliances and while facing impeachment instead of losing
02:49ground?
02:50Did this event in fact strengthen her position heading into the 2028 presidential race?
03:00Let's look deeper and think better.
03:03So I think I'll have to ask the second question even more clearly.
03:08So, Kay Murag, when the events unfolded leading to when the surveys were made, it actually looked like the Vice
03:17President was losing ground.
03:19So, ang question ani, among the many, is in spite of what happened, did this event even ended up strengthening
03:28her position as a preferred presidential candidate in 2028?
03:33So those are the things that we will discuss today.
03:36So, as mentioned in the intro, with the release of the latest Pulse Asia survey, it actually showed that the
03:46Vice President increased, no?
03:48The preference for the Vice President as presidential candidate in 2028 increased by six percentage points in spite of all
04:01the events that happened in the Senate, in the House,
04:05leading to the particular period in which the survey was conducted by Pulse Asia.
04:12If we recall, nagsugod ang survey, di ba? Nagsugod ang survey, July 3.
04:17So leading to that, mauni ang mga events in a nutshell that could have shown, no?
04:24Nagsugod ang vice president because May 11, that was when she was impeached by the House of Representatives
04:32by an overwhelming vote of 257 in favor, 25 against, and then nine ang nag-abstain.
04:42On that same day, if we recall, that was when Bato de la Rosa showed up in the Senate,
04:49and then it led to the election of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate President.
04:57So some people actually had negative impression about Senator Bato suddenly showing up in the Senate,
05:07and then that led, in fact, to the crisis or even the siege in the Senate,
05:13which people thought may have also negatively impact the vice president.
05:18The other, or the Dutertes in general, no?
05:22Because the majority at that time, including Senator Bato de la Rosa,
05:28was viewed, were viewed, no?
05:31As an ally of the, as allies of the Duterte.
05:35Now, the other thing also that transpired after that,
05:39Senator Chiz Escudero, ni Tabuksha,
05:43from the majority to the minority,
05:45and that led to the 12 votes that elected
05:51Sherwin Gatchalian as Speaker,
05:54as Senate President Pro Tempori, no?
05:58So, and then, eventually, ni Tabuk na po,
06:01si Joel Villanueva from the minority to the majority,
06:06so creating a 13th votes, no?
06:11That led to Senate, now Senate President,
06:17win Gatchalian's election.
06:20So, in a nutshell,
06:22ang katong ni Transpire is the vice president was impeached by overwhelming vote in the House,
06:27and then, naiduhakabok na nabok na senators,
06:30making the majority the minority,
06:32and creating a new majority that led to the election of Sherwin Gatchalian, no?
06:39And this also led to Senator Alan Peter Cayetano,
06:45which is perceived to be an ally of the Duterte,
06:47no longer the Senate President when,
06:49upon the start of the impeachment.
06:51So, some observers thought that
06:53mura na mag-nishift ang political alliances
06:56away from the Duterte.
06:59And then, if we recall also,
07:02June 1,
07:02which is just days before the start of the Pulse Asia survey,
07:06this was also when
07:08Senator Jinggoy Estrada, no?
07:11was detained
07:12for a non-vailable offense,
07:15which is,
07:17which is actually plunder, no?
07:19And then, July 6,
07:21which is already within the survey period,
07:24this was also a senator.
07:26Rodente Marcoleta was also detained.
07:30with another non-vailable offense,
07:33which is still,
07:34canang plunder.
07:36And this was also,
07:37katong the time that
07:40former congressman,
07:41Mike Defensor,
07:42who was also,
07:43canang a supporter
07:45of the Maleta Boys, no?
07:47And also perceived to be an ally of the Duterte,
07:50was also detained as well, no?
07:53So,
07:54makita na to,
07:55namorag,
07:55it looked like
07:56the momentum
07:57was already moving away
07:59from the Duterte's,
08:00and in that case,
08:01the vice president.
08:03But instead
08:04of hurting
08:06the vice president's
08:08preferential rank
08:10among the voters,
08:13as far as the
08:14Pulse Asia survey is concerned,
08:16the period,
08:18in fact,
08:19did not really
08:20make a dent
08:21on her popularity.
08:23In fact,
08:25after those instances,
08:27the survey would still show
08:30that she is leading
08:31among the preferred
08:34presidential candidates
08:36in 2028,
08:37and not only that,
08:38ni Saka Pagyud
08:39ang iaang preference
08:41by six
08:42percentage
08:43points.
08:45So,
08:45di li lang sila
08:46walay impact,
08:48but it turned out,
08:49in spite of those,
08:50she even became
08:51stronger
08:52in the survey.
08:54Now,
08:56makita sa dato on screen,
08:57nga ang
08:58the other perceived
09:00to be
09:01her opponent
09:02in the
09:032028
09:04presidential race
09:06is
09:06mayor
09:07and former
09:08vice president
09:09Lenny Robredo.
09:11And as we can see
09:11on screen,
09:13ninaog siya
09:14by
09:161%,
09:17no?
09:17If we look at it.
09:19di man ginta makayangol nga,
09:20it's like she's losing ground,
09:22but at least
09:22she's just steady
09:24while the vice president
09:26is actually
09:27becoming stronger.
09:29And then,
09:29if we look at
09:30the other perceived
09:31candidate,
09:32that's Senator
09:32Rafi Tulfo,
09:33ninaog po'n si
09:35Rafi Tulfo
09:36by 5%
09:37points,
09:39no?
09:39So,
09:39again,
09:40if we,
09:41but if we recall,
09:43both
09:44mayor
09:45and former
09:45vice president
09:46Robredo
09:47and Senator
09:47Tulfo
09:48both actually
09:49said that
09:49they are not
09:50running.
09:50So,
09:50things could
09:51also change
09:52just in case
09:53they will
09:54eventually declare
09:55as candidates.
09:56But as we speak,
09:58both are
09:59either steady
10:00or losing ground
10:01while the
10:02vice president
10:03is even
10:04becoming stronger
10:05as far as
10:06the voter
10:07preferences
10:08are concerned,
10:09no?
10:10Leading to
10:10the 2028
10:12presidential
10:13election.
10:14Now,
10:15what's interesting
10:16also is
10:17I will show
10:17on screen
10:18the national
10:19capital
10:20region,
10:21no?
10:21Because what
10:22we are seeing
10:22now is the
10:22national results.
10:24So,
10:24let's move
10:25to the national
10:25capital region.
10:26Even in the
10:28national capital
10:29region,
10:30the vice
10:30president
10:31also is
10:32slightly
10:32becoming
10:33stronger,
10:33no?
10:34From
10:3435
10:35to
10:3639.
10:37And then,
10:38si
10:39former
10:40vice
10:41president
10:42Lenny
10:42Robredo
10:43also increased
10:44by 27
10:45to 38,
10:47no?
10:47And,
10:48but still,
10:50it is still
10:50the vice
10:51president
10:51who is
10:52leading
10:52whilst
10:53Senator
10:54Tulfo
10:54is
10:55decreasing
10:56also in
10:56the
10:56capital
10:57region.
10:58The
10:58more,
10:59and then,
11:00by the
11:00way,
11:00I'll do
11:00my
11:00analysis
11:01after
11:02consolidating
11:03the two,
11:04but the
11:04more
11:04interesting
11:06numbers
11:06that we
11:07need to
11:07check
11:08is the
11:08balance
11:09of
11:10Luzon,
11:11which we
11:11will be
11:12showing
11:12on screen.
11:14Because
11:14the balance
11:15of Luzon,
11:16so this
11:16is the
11:17entire
11:17Luzon
11:18except
11:18NCR,
11:20the vice
11:20president
11:21became
11:22even
11:22stronger
11:23by 15
11:24percentage
11:25points,
11:26while
11:27the
11:27former
11:28vice
11:29president
11:29and
11:30mayor
11:31Lenny
11:32Robredo
11:33declined
11:33by 13%.
11:35Now,
11:35why did I
11:36say
11:37the balance
11:38of Luzon
11:39is an important
11:40number
11:41to check?
11:43Because
11:43the balance
11:44of Luzon
11:45represents
11:46roughly
11:4756%
11:48of the
11:49Philippine
11:50electorate.
11:51So,
11:51he is the
11:52most
11:52black
11:53block.
11:54Interestingly,
11:56Naga
11:56actually
11:57is part
11:57of
11:58this.
11:58And I'm
11:59not saying
12:00that Naga
12:00actually
12:00will have
12:01a
12:01where
12:01the
12:02vice
12:02president
12:03and
12:03now
12:03is
12:04the
12:04mayor
12:05of
12:05Naga.
12:05I'm
12:05not saying
12:06that
12:06Naga
12:06actually
12:07has
12:07a
12:07significant
12:08number
12:08to
12:08contribute
12:09to
12:09this.
12:09But
12:10some
12:10people
12:11would
12:11think
12:11that
12:12if
12:12the
12:12vice
12:13president
12:13is
12:13strong
12:14in
12:14Mindanao
12:14where Davao
12:16is,
12:16then it
12:17would have
12:17been
12:18also
12:19not
12:20surprising
12:21if
12:22the
12:22vice
12:22president
12:23is
12:23popular
12:23in the
12:24balance
12:24of
12:24Luzon.
12:25Because
12:25that's
12:26also
12:26if
12:27Sarah
12:27is
12:28Mindanao,
12:28it looks
12:29like
12:29this is
12:29her
12:29territory.
12:30But
12:31even
12:31here,
12:32the
12:32vice
12:32president
12:33is
12:33losing
12:33ground
12:34by 13
12:35percentage
12:35points
12:36while
12:36the
12:37vice
12:37president
12:37is
12:38even
12:38stronger
12:39at
12:3915
12:40percentage
12:41points.
12:42As
12:42mentioned
12:44earlier,
12:44this is
12:45the
12:45largest
12:45voting
12:46block
12:47in
12:48the
12:48country.
12:51This
12:52actually
12:52showed
12:53that
12:53the
12:53vice
12:53president
12:54gained
12:55substantial
12:56preference
12:57in
12:58this
12:58large
12:59voting
13:00block
13:00in
13:01the
13:01Philippines.
13:02As
13:03we
13:03continue
13:03to
13:03look
13:04at
13:04the
13:04survey
13:04leading
13:05to
13:0520
13:0628,
13:06I
13:07would
13:07suggest
13:07that
13:08this
13:08is
13:08one
13:08part
13:09of
13:09the
13:09region
13:09that
13:10we
13:10need
13:11to
13:11also
13:11take
13:12a
13:12closer
13:12look.
13:13Not
13:14necessarily
13:14because
13:15we
13:15support
13:15whichever
13:16candidates,
13:16but at
13:17least
13:17we
13:17know
13:17where
13:18our
13:19candidates
13:20stand
13:21as far
13:22as
13:22voting
13:23preference.
13:24In
13:24the
13:24Visayas,
13:25which is
13:26also
13:26said
13:26to
13:27be
13:28the
13:31voting
13:31base
13:32of the
13:33vice
13:33president,
13:34there's
13:34a decline
13:35by 7%
13:36points,
13:37but
13:38layu
13:38pag
13:39yung
13:39hapon
13:39ang
13:42former
13:42vice
13:43president
13:44from
13:45her.
13:45So
13:45ni
13:45Saka,
13:46former
13:46vice
13:47president
13:47by 11
13:49percentage
13:49points,
13:50and by the way,
13:50this is worth
13:51looking at,
13:52taas po
13:5211%
13:54points,
13:55while the
13:55vice
13:55president
13:56declined
13:56by 7
13:58percentage
13:58points.
13:59So this
13:59is worth
14:00looking
14:00closely.
14:01But as
14:02we speak,
14:02if we
14:02look at
14:03the numbers,
14:04it's
14:0453%
14:05still
14:05in favor
14:07of
14:07Sarah
14:08Duterte
14:08should she
14:09run,
14:09I mean,
14:10once she
14:11ran
14:11in
14:122028,
14:13and then
14:1427%,
14:14medyo
14:15katunga lang
14:15gani,
14:16ang sa
14:16vice
14:17president.
14:17Raffi
14:18Tulfo
14:19also
14:19losing
14:19ground
14:20further
14:20and
14:21just
14:21at
14:2210%.
14:22Now
14:23in
14:23Mindanao,
14:24in
14:25Mindanao,
14:26by the way,
14:27the Visayas
14:27represents
14:2820%
14:29of the
14:29Philippine
14:30electorate.
14:31And in
14:31Mindanao,
14:32which is
14:32the second
14:33highest
14:34voting
14:35block,
14:36which is
14:36at
14:3624%,
14:37and in
14:38Mindanao,
14:39the vice
14:39president
14:40remained
14:40strong,
14:42coming
14:43at
14:4387%,
14:44while
14:45the
14:45vice
14:46president
14:46and the
14:47former
14:47vice
14:48president
14:48and
14:49Mayor
14:49Robredo
14:50is
14:51just
14:51at
14:518%,
14:52and
14:53Senator
14:53Tulfo
14:53at
14:542%.
14:54So,
14:55while
14:55there's
14:55a slight
14:56decline
14:56for the
14:57vice
14:57president,
14:58but the
14:59numbers
14:59actually
14:59look
15:00steady
15:00because
15:0087%
15:01is
15:02really
15:02like
15:03a
15:03solid
15:03voting
15:04block
15:05for
15:05her.
15:06So,
15:08the
15:08vice
15:09president
15:09actually,
15:10if we
15:10look at
15:11it in
15:11a
15:11nutshell,
15:12she
15:12actually
15:12gained
15:14very
15:15good
15:15progress
15:16in the
15:16largest
15:16voting
15:17block
15:17which
15:17is
15:18the
15:18balance
15:18of
15:19Luzon
15:19and
15:20she
15:20leads
15:20across
15:21all the
15:22different
15:23regions
15:23in the
15:24Philippines.
15:25Now,
15:25the other
15:25thing
15:26that's
15:26worth
15:26looking
15:27at
15:27is
15:27the
15:28next
15:28chart
15:28because
15:29we
15:29also
15:29have
15:30here
15:30the
15:31numbers
15:31and
15:32comparison
15:32with
15:33respect
15:33to
15:34social
15:34economic
15:35classes.
15:36And I'm
15:37referring
15:37to
15:37class
15:38A,
15:39B,
15:39and
15:40C.
15:41I hope
15:42they will
15:42now show
15:43it on
15:43screen.
15:44What's
15:45interesting
15:46about
15:46this
15:47voting
15:47block
15:48before
15:48I will
15:49yes,
15:50okay,
15:50you're
15:50seeing
15:51it
15:51now.
15:52The
15:52vice
15:53president
15:53surprisingly,
15:54and I'll
15:54tell you
15:55why I
15:55use the
15:55word
15:56surprisingly,
15:57gained
15:5824
16:00percentage
16:01points
16:02in
16:02class
16:03A,
16:04B,
16:04and C
16:05while
16:06the
16:06former
16:07vice
16:07president
16:08and
16:08Mayor
16:08René
16:09Lobredo
16:09decreased
16:10by
16:1111
16:11percentage
16:12points.
16:13And
16:13why
16:13did I
16:14say
16:15this
16:15is an
16:16interesting
16:16number?
16:18Because
16:19class
16:19A,
16:20B,
16:20C
16:20represents
16:21the
16:22country's
16:22upper
16:23income
16:23and
16:24upper
16:25middle
16:26class
16:26income.
16:27Gamayra
16:28ni siyang
16:28population
16:29as we
16:29know,
16:298 to
16:3012%.
16:31But
16:31to
16:32me,
16:32why
16:32does
16:33this,
16:34why
16:35does
16:36the
16:36number
16:36significant
16:37in my
16:38opinion?
16:38Because
16:39these
16:39are
16:40the
16:40business
16:40owners,
16:42the
16:42senior
16:42executives,
16:44the
16:44professionals,
16:45and
16:46individuals
16:47with
16:47higher
16:47levels
16:48of
16:49formal
16:49education.
16:50So
16:51this
16:51runs
16:51counter
16:52to
16:53the
16:53impression
16:53that
16:54it's
16:54only
16:54the
16:55for
16:55the
16:55lack
16:55of
16:56better
16:56word,
16:56it's
16:56only
16:57the
16:57bobo
16:57who
16:58are
16:58supporting
16:59the
16:59Duterte.
17:00Because
17:00again,
17:01these
17:02are
17:02the
17:02upper
17:03middle
17:04income
17:05and
17:05upper
17:06income
17:06bracket.
17:07So
17:08that
17:08statement
17:09after
17:09all
17:10is
17:10not
17:10necessarily
17:11true
17:11if
17:12we
17:12look
17:12at
17:13the
17:13survey.
17:14And
17:14in
17:14fact,
17:15this
17:16is
17:16in spite
17:17of
17:17everything
17:18that
17:18happened,
17:19the
17:19vice
17:19president
17:20has
17:21had a
17:21significant
17:22jump
17:22in
17:23this
17:23particular
17:24bracket
17:25by
17:2624
17:27percentage
17:28points.
17:29So
17:31small
17:32voting
17:32voting
17:33population
17:33but
17:33it's
17:34very
17:34telling
17:34about
17:35the
17:35impression
17:36that
17:36vice
17:38president
17:39because
17:39these
17:39people
17:40are not
17:40necessarily
17:41bobo.
17:42They're
17:44the
17:45executives,
17:46the
17:46professionals,
17:47the
17:47entrepreneurs,
17:48and people
17:48with
17:50higher
17:50level
17:51of
17:52formal
17:52education.
17:53So
17:53that's
17:54a good
17:54number
17:55to take
17:55a look
17:55at
17:55whether
17:56we are
17:56pro-vice
17:57president
17:57or
17:57we
17:58are
17:58supporting
17:58another
17:59candidate.
18:00Now
18:01the
18:01other
18:01thing
18:01also
18:02that's
18:02another
18:03telling
18:03also
18:04is
18:04let's
18:04move
18:05to
18:05class
18:05D.
18:06The
18:08huge
18:09block
18:10of the
18:10Philippines
18:10in terms
18:11of
18:11number,
18:12broad
18:13middle
18:14class
18:14to
18:15lower
18:16middle
18:17class
18:18segment.
18:19So
18:19we'll
18:19be
18:19showing
18:19that
18:20next
18:20on
18:21screen.
18:22And
18:22so
18:22this
18:23is
18:23a
18:23large
18:24voting
18:24block.
18:25And
18:25in
18:25this
18:26particular
18:26block,
18:27it's
18:28the
18:28next.
18:30Humana
18:30ta
18:30sa
18:31NCR.
18:32Humana
18:32pa
18:32ta
18:32sa
18:32balance
18:33Luzon.
18:33Continue
18:34ta
18:34with
18:34Sige,
18:35anyhow,
18:36while
18:36they're
18:37moving
18:37the
18:40charts,
18:41but
18:42class
18:42D,
18:43this
18:43is
18:43the
18:43larger
18:44voting
18:44block
18:45in
18:46terms
18:46of
18:46population,
18:48but
18:48this
18:48is
18:48a
18:48representation
18:49of
18:49those
18:50in
18:50the
18:50middle
18:50class
18:51and
18:51the
18:51lower
18:51segment.
18:52Sunod
18:52Ana.
18:54Sara
18:54Duterte
18:55also
18:55still
18:55leads.
18:56In
18:57this
18:57area.
18:58then if
18:58we move
18:59further
18:59to
18:59class
19:00E,
19:00which is
19:00already
19:01the
19:01lowest
19:01income
19:02among
19:03the
19:03households,
19:05the
19:05vice
19:05president
19:06also,
19:06while she
19:07had a
19:08five
19:08points
19:09decline
19:10class
19:11E.
19:12but
19:14she
19:14remains
19:15also
19:15strong
19:16at
19:1759%.
19:2059%.
19:21So,
19:22what does
19:23this tell
19:24us?
19:24If we
19:25are to
19:26summarize
19:27everything,
19:28the vice
19:29president is
19:29leading in
19:30all regions,
19:31and then
19:32she also
19:33has the
19:34balance
19:34Luzon,
19:35which is
19:35the
19:36largest
19:36voting
19:37block
19:37and
19:38is
19:38perceived
19:39to be
19:40the
19:40area,
19:41the
19:42territory
19:42of
19:42perceived
19:44opponent
19:45in the
19:46vice
19:46presidential
19:47race,
19:47Vice
19:48President
19:49and
19:50Mayor
19:50Lenny
19:51Robredo.
19:52And then
19:53she
19:54also
19:55leads
19:55in
19:55class
19:56ABC,
19:57small
19:57voting
19:58block,
19:59pero
20:00these
20:01are the
20:01learned,
20:02ang mga
20:03bright
20:04kunuhay,
20:04ang mga
20:05dato
20:06kunuhay,
20:07but she's
20:07also
20:08leading in
20:08that,
20:09which to
20:09me is
20:09a surprise.
20:10It's
20:10against
20:11the
20:11common
20:12perception.
20:13And
20:13then
20:13the
20:14other
20:14thing
20:14also
20:15is
20:15in
20:15class
20:16D
20:16and
20:17E,
20:17she
20:17also
20:18remains
20:19strong.
20:21Okay,
20:21sige,
20:22so nag-error
20:23de ang file,
20:23so sige lang,
20:24let's still
20:25proceed.
20:26So,
20:28ang question
20:28na to
20:28then,
20:29which is
20:29going back
20:30to the
20:30introduction,
20:31why did
20:32this
20:33extraordinary
20:34political
20:35events
20:35that
20:37happened,
20:37which is
20:38supposed to
20:39be not
20:39in favor
20:40of the
20:40Duterte
20:41or the
20:41vice
20:42president
20:42for that
20:43matter,
20:44resulted
20:45to an
20:45even
20:46stronger
20:46support
20:48for
20:48the
20:49vice
20:49president.
20:50Well,
20:51these are
20:53just
20:53analysis.
20:54I will
20:54not say
20:55that this
20:55is already
20:56cast in
20:56stone,
20:56but it's
20:57very
20:57possible
20:58that the
20:59voters
20:59still think,
21:01even with
21:01the impeachment
21:02process going
21:03on,
21:04and it
21:04started
21:05within this
21:05period,
21:06it's
21:07possible
21:08that the
21:09voters
21:09still think
21:09that this
21:10is
21:12excessive
21:12and
21:13politically
21:14charged,
21:16and that
21:16the
21:17vice
21:17president
21:17is
21:18unfairly
21:19targeted.
21:20So,
21:21it's
21:21possible.
21:22Because
21:22we've
21:22heard
21:23also,
21:23even
21:24if
21:25next
21:25week,
21:26they
21:26will
21:27open
21:27the
21:27financial
21:28records,
21:29but
21:29there are
21:31people
21:32who are
21:32asking
21:33that.
21:33And it
21:34looks like,
21:34if we look
21:34at the
21:35number,
21:35it looks
21:35like
21:36people
21:36really
21:37still
21:37thought,
21:38at least
21:38as far
21:38as those
21:39participated
21:40in the
21:40survey,
21:41believing
21:41that she
21:42was
21:42unfairly
21:43targeted.
21:45there are
21:46also
21:46possibilities
21:47that
21:47because
21:48she's
21:48being
21:49targeted,
21:49it
21:50further
21:50even
21:50unified
21:51her
21:52already
21:53existing
21:53base.
21:55Again,
21:55I'm not
21:56saying this
21:56is
21:56cast-in-stone
21:57analysis,
21:58but these
21:58are
21:59possibilities.
22:00So,
22:00it's
22:00also possible
22:03of what
22:03happened.
22:04And then,
22:06it's
22:07also
22:07possible
22:07that
22:08when
22:09Filipinos
22:10who
22:10answered
22:11the
22:11survey,
22:12they're
22:12not
22:12necessarily
22:14following
22:14the
22:15impeachment
22:15or
22:16they're
22:16not
22:16necessarily
22:17following
22:17the
22:18political
22:20shifting
22:21political
22:21alliances
22:22in the
22:23Senate
22:23or even
22:23in the
22:24House
22:24of
22:24Representatives,
22:25but they
22:26are just
22:26looking at
22:27their own
22:29experience,
22:30day-to-day
22:30experience,
22:31such as
22:31inflation,
22:33which is,
22:33by the way,
22:34remains high,
22:35jobs,
22:36which also
22:37remains a
22:38problem and
22:39even threatened
22:40because of
22:41the current
22:42economic
22:42condition,
22:43and then
22:44public
22:44safety,
22:45because as
22:46we know,
22:46there are
22:46also a
22:47series of
22:47crimes that
22:48are said
22:49to be
22:49happening.
22:51So,
22:51maybe their
22:52focus is
22:53not on
22:53the
22:53impeachment,
22:54but actually
22:54on these
22:55indicators and
22:57how they
22:58are experiencing
22:59life in
23:00the day-to-day
23:01manner.
23:03The other
23:03thing also
23:04is it's
23:05possible that
23:06the voters
23:07continue to
23:08support the
23:09vice
23:09president,
23:10Sara
23:11Duterte,
23:11because of
23:12the strength
23:12of the
23:13Duterte
23:13brand.
23:14And there
23:14are details
23:15of the
23:15survey,
23:16which I
23:16will not
23:16bore you
23:17anymore,
23:18but because
23:19it's the parts
23:20put on why
23:21they are
23:21picking the
23:23vice
23:23president or
23:23why do
23:24they trust
23:24the
23:25vice
23:25president.
23:26And a
23:26lot of
23:27the comments
23:27there,
23:28it's because
23:28of strong,
23:29whether we
23:30agree or
23:31we don't,
23:32but the
23:32Duterte
23:33brand actually
23:33is attached
23:34to strength
23:35and decisive,
23:37strong and
23:37decisive
23:38leadership,
23:40law and
23:40order.
23:41And the
23:42messaging that
23:43they always
23:44have when
23:44they engage
23:45with the
23:45public is
23:46their
23:47understanding
23:48of the
23:49grassroots
23:50and the
23:51experiences
23:51of everyday
23:52Filipinos.
23:54So maybe
23:54that's also
23:56the one that
23:56continued to
23:57strengthen the
23:58vice president
23:59in terms of
23:59voter
24:00preference.
24:03the other
24:04thing also,
24:05it's possible
24:06also that
24:06it's
24:06personality
24:07driven,
24:07which is
24:08related to
24:09the
24:10Duterte
24:10brand.
24:11So maybe
24:12it's also
24:13possible that
24:14the voting
24:15population is
24:16not necessarily
24:17monitoring the
24:18issue,
24:19but they are
24:19just supporting
24:20the personality
24:21or the
24:22brand.
24:22And in
24:22this case,
24:23it's the
24:23vice president,
24:25Sara Duterte.
24:26Now,
24:26related to the
24:27other factors
24:28that I mentioned,
24:29economic indicators,
24:30it's also the
24:31cost of
24:31living,
24:32jobs,
24:33inflation,
24:34their ability
24:35to put food
24:36on the table,
24:37their ability
24:37to pay for
24:38their medical
24:39healthcare
24:40expenses.
24:41I think this
24:42is actually
24:42more practical
24:43to them.
24:43And I will
24:45have to just
24:45go a little
24:46bit on certain
24:47numbers.
24:47We will guest
24:48an economist
24:49next week.
24:50I think it's
24:51going to be
24:52Thursday of next
24:52week and we'll
24:53deal with that.
24:54But I'll just
24:54have to mention
24:55maybe the
24:56Filipinos are
24:57not necessarily
24:58following the
24:59impeachment
24:59in general,
25:00the Philippine
25:01electorate,
25:02but they're
25:02actually just
25:03looking at how
25:04they are
25:04experiencing
25:06things as
25:07we speak.
25:08Because
25:09inflation
25:10actually remains
25:11high.
25:11So we're at
25:126.4%,
25:14which is above
25:15the 2.4%
25:17target of
25:18the government.
25:19So
25:19mas nisaka
25:20ang presyo.
25:22But at the
25:22same time,
25:23ang growth
25:24sa economy
25:25is only
25:26at 2.8%,
25:28which is
25:29slower than
25:30what we
25:31forecasted,
25:33which was
25:335.4%.
25:35So
25:35nagkamahal
25:36ang presyo,
25:37the economy
25:38is not
25:38expanding
25:39enough
25:40to actually
25:41generate
25:42opportunities
25:43for people
25:44to afford
25:44the rising
25:45prices.
25:46So that's
25:47how I can
25:48best explain
25:49it in a
25:50nutshell.
25:51So the
25:51cost of
25:51living
25:52is
25:52growing,
25:54but our
25:54ability
25:56to spend
25:57is not
25:58growing
25:59fast
25:59enough.
26:00Because
26:01opportunities,
26:02the economy
26:03is not
26:03expanding
26:04fast
26:05enough
26:05to create
26:06those
26:06opportunities.
26:07So if
26:08ito pa yun
26:09ni siyang
26:09i-further
26:09translate
26:10to everyday
26:10Filipinos,
26:11meaning
26:12nagkamahal
26:12ang grocery,
26:14nagkamahal
26:15ang rice,
26:16nagkamahal
26:16ang meat,
26:17ang vegetables,
26:18and other
26:19things that
26:20we need
26:21on a
26:21day-to-day
26:22basis,
26:23naglisod
26:23sa
26:23transportation.
26:25In fact,
26:26on my way
26:27here,
26:27I was
26:27listening to
26:28another
26:29news outlet,
26:30kanang
26:31mga
26:34app
26:35hailing,
26:36kanang
26:36mga
26:36ginahail
26:37na kanang
26:37applications,
26:38or
26:40transportation.
26:41I forgot
26:41the exact
26:42term,
26:42but I'm
26:42referring to
26:43kanang
26:43mga
26:43grabs
26:44and
26:44the
26:44movement.
26:45Kanang
26:46lisod
26:46gandang
26:47ila
26:47ang
26:47situation
26:48given
26:48the
26:49rising
26:49fuel
26:49prices,
26:50it
26:51would
26:51actually
26:51take
26:52for
26:52them
26:53to
26:53have
26:53at
26:53least
26:5316
26:54hours
26:54in a
26:54day
26:55to
26:55work
26:55or
26:56to
26:56drive
26:56just
26:57for
26:58them
26:58to be
26:58able
26:59to
26:59reach
27:00profitability.
27:01That's
27:0116
27:02hours,
27:02so
27:03longer
27:03time.
27:04And
27:04some
27:04of
27:04them
27:05would
27:05even
27:05just
27:05sleep.
27:06So
27:07they
27:09will
27:10just
27:10sleep
27:10on
27:10where
27:11they
27:11are
27:11because
27:11they
27:11will
27:11sleep
27:12on
27:12another
27:13transportation
27:13cost.
27:14Plus
27:14of
27:14course
27:15we've
27:15also
27:15heard
27:15about
27:16the
27:16crimes
27:16against
27:17certain
27:19motorcycle
27:19drivers.
27:20So
27:22these
27:22are
27:22sad
27:23times
27:23also
27:24for
27:24the
27:24transportation
27:25sector
27:25because
27:26of
27:26higher
27:26fuel
27:27prices,
27:27etc.
27:28And
27:29then
27:29there
27:29are
27:29also
27:30questions
27:30already
27:31that
27:31salaries
27:31are
27:31no
27:32longer
27:32enough
27:32to
27:32fund
27:33for
27:33this.
27:33So
27:33if
27:34we
27:34will
27:34have
27:35more
27:35we
27:36will
