00:03When humans travel back to the moon and set up a moon base, it's not as simple as breaking out
00:08the hammer and nails here on Earth.
00:10Astronauts will need a different kind of shelter, not only one that can provide oxygen on the atmosphericless lunar surface,
00:15but also one that will shield them from the sun's harmful radiation, not to mention extreme temperatures.
00:20And that's why this recently discovered cave on the moon could be just what astronomers have been looking for.
00:25The initial data for this find was collected way back in 2010. However, they recently reanalyzed the data using new
00:31techniques,
00:31with astronomer Lorenzo Bruzzone, who worked on the new analysis, saying that they have discovered radar reflections from the area
00:37of the pit
00:38that are best explained by an underground cave conduit, adding that it could even lead to a network of underground
00:44caverns that were once lava tubes.
00:46Bruzzone says that these caves have been theorized for over 50 years, but this is the first time ever they
00:51have seen them firsthand.
00:52Unfortunately, this area is not a high priority to land astronauts, but if there's a lava tube here, it means
00:58we might find them elsewhere too.
01:00And now astronomers have the techniques with which to do so, meaning a moon base is ever closer within our
01:05grasp.
