00:08and the really big ideas and burning issues of our time.
00:11We've just come out of a session where we've been talking about
00:15First Nations people and we've been talking about what's happening in Palestine.
00:20It's so good to be here with people thinking about these things.
00:25Hi, my name is Michelle Elliott. I'm at the South Coast Readers and Writers Festival in Thoreau.
00:31And I love this event. I try and come every year.
00:35I love supporting our local writers, but also writers from other parts of the state.
00:42And how important it is to have such a diversity of voices and stories and truth-telling.
00:51And, yeah, just wanted to come and support our local booksellers, Collins Books.
00:57Hello, my name is Carrie Hill and I am a writer.
01:01And I also work as part of the South Coast Writer's Centre Books.
01:06And having this festival brings us all together.
01:09And it's through readers and writers we can really talk about what's going on in the world
01:16and finding a way to connect and shift the lens of finding enjoyment.
01:20As someone who reads every single day, I find that, you know, we can traverse to anywhere through the magic
01:27of books.

01:34Why do I love it here? I love it here because there's amazing authors and readers and writers and thinkers,
01:40people coming together talking about why literature matters and why books matter.
01:48They open their escape, but they're also ways for us to communicate with each other.
01:53They make the world, they tell us about the human condition.
01:56They make the world smaller. They make the world closer.
01:58They bring us together and they inspire us in exciting ways.
