00:41Well this will be fascinating, there's going to be a lot of egos here all across the pool and lots
00:45of different legs, they all want to make sure that they can prove themselves and Gabe Sheppard going out very
00:50quickly in the red hat up there of England in lane 3.
00:53Excellent 100m freestylers, so pretty good on 200 as well.
00:58And in lane 6 for Wales, Matt Richards, Olympic silver medalist on the individual 2.3, so really interesting first

01:07It is and all of these swimmers are world class 200 freestylers, so we know they have the speed and
01:13the endurance.
01:14This is going to make this race so exciting to watch, but Sam Short really picking up his stroke right
01:18here, trying to claw back the distance off of Team England.
01:23But it's making sure this first 100 is hard, it can be fast but it cannot be hard, otherwise you're
01:29going to pay the price in that second half of that 100.
01:32It's easy to do that in a relay, the hype, the adrenaline can really take out that athlete a bit
01:37too quick.
01:38Matt Richards turned 51-4 and now he's going, the big guys tend to do that, get to just before
01:44the halfway and really start to move.
01:46Going with it is Sam Short, the champion on the 400 freestylers, he's charging in that yellow hat in the
01:51centre, so closest to us it is Matt Richards of Wales,
01:56who will be over first, second will be Sam Short, Australian but only by a quarter of a second, and
02:01third now is Gabriel Shepherd, really quick first 50m, and he's still coming back well, this is very interesting.
02:09It is, but Matt Richards is really not letting the Australians have this first touch on this first 200m, that
02:16white water of his legs behind him powering through, as he hands over to next swimmer Dan Jones.
02:24So that's the end of the first leg in this men's four-way 200m freestyle relay, Wales leading, 1.45
02:30.4, good lead off for Matt Richards,
02:33I think if he's going to win the individual to the freestyle, he's going to have to go faster than
02:36that, that's not the last day, that's going to be an absolute belter.
02:39So now Dan Jones in for Wales, for Australia it's Harrison Turner, and I can tell you Sam Short's bit
02:47very good, 1.46-0.
02:50So Australia second, but a really good first 50 from Tom Dean, well he's Olympic champion, 200m freestyle in Tokyo,
02:59so there's Olympic medalists all over the pool here, Olympic gold medalists, Dean's got three, my goodness me, he's the
03:06red hat at the top there, and he's having a crack at the Australians.
03:08He is, and we know he's on form at this meet, he had a fantastic 200m on that first day,
03:13and he's going to show his form here in this relay, really keeping a hold of the Australians and not
03:20letting him go, but the last 50s where you're going to see Tom really dig deep and try and get
03:25ahead of Team Australia.
03:27Well the red hat off Tom Dean, he's had a shoulder injury this year, so didn't swim the trials, got
03:32an exemption to swim the European Championships and of course on Team England here is hanging in well, training and
03:39sterling up in Scotland, just up the road here about an hour away, and he's hanging on to the Australians
03:44here, but the Australians swim very well, Harrison Turner, the second leg off of the Australians, so it's Australia just
03:51leading from England in second place, that's Tom Dean, still going well as Wales
03:56in lane six, in lane six, that's Dan Jones, and this head-to-head wonderful, so coming into the halfway
04:04mark on this final of the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, Australia just going to touch ahead at the halfway mark,
04:11tight takeovers but sensible takeovers, I think yes, very good indeed, so Australia lead, England second, Wales third, but there
04:20are going to be some charges coming certainly from Scotland, we've got Evan Jones and Duncan Scott on their last
04:25two legs,
04:25their fastest two swimmers, so this could still change for the minor medals, and England a little bit closer than
04:31I expected to Australia here, they are, I wasn't expecting it to be this close, but that distinctive limp stroke
04:38from Edward Somerville, really taken off, a bit more distance away from Team England there,
04:45powering through stroke for stroke, but it is James Guy who is the veteran, the reliable athlete in relays, you
04:52know he's going to fight, he's not going to let Edward Somerville get too much ground on him.
04:56Well he's a very canny character, here's Mr Guy, James Guy turning second, having a go at the Australians here,
05:05he'll come back on the second 100m pretty quickly here, Jimmy Guy's got two Olympic gold medals on the 4x2
05:11free relay as well, the Australia looking very good though, Kai Taylor here, this is great showing from Australia, starting
05:18to catch up though is Jimmy Guy, and the final leg, this is going to be really interesting, final leg
05:23for Australia,
05:24well that's, that is going to be Kai Taylor, sorry Edward Somerville on the third leg right here for Australia,
05:31but Kai Taylor on the final leg, and Max Litchfield for England, look at this, much closer than I expected.
05:38And Jimmy Guy turned first on that last turn, so England are now in the lead, they have overtaken Australia,
05:45he'll be handing over to Max Litchfield for this final 200.
05:49So coming up to the final takeover in this final, the main 4x2 and a freestyle relay, England have got
05:54the lead, that's a surprise, so James Guy just done a wonderful leg, 144.0 for Jimmy Guy, outstanding from
06:02him, so Max Litchfield now in the water for Team England, Australia second, and that is Kai Taylor, and Taylor's
06:10an outstanding third 200m freestylist, so this is definitely not over, this is going to be a very, very interesting
06:16final 200,
06:17and he's catching quickly as Taylor, look at this, really quick, England just about first, but only by a quarter
06:24of a second from Australian second, and there's going to be a huge roar, because third and fourth very close,
06:30Wales just leading, that's Tyler Melbourne-Smith for Wales, but Duncan Scott is going to be attacking him very, very
06:38fast.
06:39Australia just about got into the lead with 100m to go.
06:43They have a Max Litchfield, what can he do to hang on to Team Australia, but Australia, Kai Taylor, great
06:50underwaters there, just taking a bit more advantage over Max Litchfield, that red hat from Team England, trying to stay
06:57with Team Australia.
06:58The Australians are going mad, the stadium is such a loud noise right now.
07:04What a great race, absolutely lovely, this is much closer than I thought it was going to be, I still
07:10think Australia are the favourites with Kai Taylor, he's an excellent freestyler, he's over with about three quarters of a
07:16second lead from Team England, so it is Taylor leading for Australia.
07:22Litchfield second for England, and still charging is Duncan Scott in the final lead from Scotland, they're in fourth at
07:27the moment, but he's catching Tyler Melbourne-Smith, and you can hear the volume in this tall cross International Swimming
07:33Centre, no doubt about the winnings though, and Australia, Team Australia win gold, it's gold to Australia in the men's
07:404x200m freestyle relay, wonderful swim from them, the silver's gone to England, and a wonderful, wonderful swim from the Scots.
07:48They're not quite going to get in, Wales get the bronze, wow, what a great race that was, gold and
07:55silver, bronze and fourth, never really knew where the medals were going to go, there's Boxor, I don't quite think
08:02he realises how close, or knew how close England would get, and also how quick the Aussies would go.
08:07A new games record for Team Australia, Sam Short, Harrison Turner, Ed Somerville, and Kai Taylor, and the final lead
08:16for Taylor, well, 144.10, absolutely brilliant from him, no, no, no chance for Team England.
08:25Go to Australia, go to Australia, silver to England, and Wales, the bronze.
08:30It was a fantastic race there, and Jimmy Guy with the fastest split out the field, 144.03.
08:38I think he might be the oldest swimmer in that final with the fastest split, and that goes to show
08:45the pure talent and reliability that is Jimmy Guy.
08:49What a swim, what a race, great battle for that third place between Scotland and Wales, Wales just having that
08:56bit better of a lead over Duncan Scott, not quite having enough there to catch up.
09:02That's a tough leg, the final leg to swim against the Australians there for Max Litchfield, England definitely front low
09:08did it, sir, and it was, well, biddle loaded, I suppose you could say, with Gabe Sheppard leading them off
09:14at 1.46.6, very good from him, and then Dean was 1.45.6, and Guy 1.44.0,
09:21so England put their biggies in the centre, in slots 2 and 3, Australia, well, really good, where were their
09:29biggies, all over the place, 4 fantastic swims, 1.46.6 flat, 1.45.9, 1.45.3, and 1
09:36.44.1 anchor leg, gracious me.
09:41And Team Wales, we haven't talked enough about them here, absolutely brilliant, swam that bronze medal on the 4x100, a
09:49mixed freestyle relay,
09:50I think it was, and then another bronze medal on this 4x2.
09:55Yeah, and the last time in Birmingham, they had a number of fourth place finishers in the relay, so they'd
10:00be delighted to convert them to bronze.
10:03Duncan Scott was chasing though, wasn't he, with every stroke, the volume was increasing, a lot of pressure on Tylenol
