00:12Welcome back to the swamp.
00:14Ooh, the swamp's a little chilly today.
00:17Actually, it's so cold, I think all the ogres and talking donkeys went home.
00:21Because today we're talking about Ice Age toys.
00:24Yes, by popular viewer request, we are finally going to talk about Ice Age toys.
00:31This was one you guys really wanted.
00:34I'll be honest, I am not the biggest Ice Age fan, but this channel isn't about me.
00:40It's about you guys, and I love learning about new toys and collectibles.
00:45So, kind of dipping my toe into the frozen pond that is Ice Age toys has been very interesting.
00:51I learned a lot about Ice Age, and I have a pretty large collection of toys here to talk about.
00:56We're literally just going to look at them all and talk about them all and have an active discussion about
01:01Ice Age.
01:02So, let me know down in the comments what you think of the Ice Age movies.
01:06Do you have nostalgia for these films?
01:08I feel like if anyone was born between 1998 and 2006, they're going to have an attachment to at least
01:15one of the Ice Age movies.
01:19It's a good movie, so, you know, go watch the Ice Age films.
01:22I recently watched all five, which honestly was kind of a miserable experience.
01:27Some of the films are bizarre.
01:29That last one with the asteroid was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
01:34I say that unironically.
01:36Look at this scrat here when I hit the button.
01:39Look at that.
01:42Actually, good transition.
01:43Let's talk about this.
01:44This is the interactive Goin' Nuts scrat, right?
01:48Or is this one the Goin' Nuts scrat?
01:50See, this is why I need help.
01:52I don't know Ice Age toys.
01:53There's this one, and there's this one.
01:55And they both just, well, they both just kind of just go crazy for the nuts.
02:00And this one was from Just Play Toys.
02:03Kind of poetic, because Just Play made the, they're making the new Shrek toys, Shrek 5.
02:08So, there's a Shrek connection.
02:10All right, all right, I gotta turn this guy off.
02:11Oh, my God.
02:12Why doesn't he stop?
02:13Stop, scrat, stop.
02:14There we go.
02:16What is this?
02:17What is this?
02:17Tell me what this is.
02:19It's John Luegizamo as a talking sloth man.
02:22I have the Beanie Babies.
02:24I have the Beanie Babies.
02:25I have Sid.
02:26I have Manny.
02:27And Diego.
02:28I'm missing Scrat.
02:29Scrat is the tough one to get.
02:31Across all of Ice Age collecting, anything Scrat tends to be more expensive than the other guys.
02:37They know.
02:37They know Scrat's the best character.
02:39People know.
02:40Uh, what else?
02:41What else?
02:42Oh, I've got a Scrat here that's totally demented.
02:45Look at this Scrat.
02:46This one looks like it's a taxidorming creature.
02:49I mean, compared to this one, this is like the cute Scrat.
02:52This is the demented Scrat.
02:54And when you remove his nut,
02:58he freaks out and he doesn't stop.
03:01Look at this.
03:04And he's supposed to walk, but mine doesn't really, it doesn't really work that well because
03:09it's a toy that's 20 years old now.
03:11But any parent that bought this on Christmas morning immediately regretted it.
03:15Uh, the plastic nut, though, is a cool piece.
03:17This would look good with, like, any Scrat plush.
03:20But this one here, I mean, it is gorgeous.
03:22It does, gorgeous.
03:23I mean, look at that face.
03:24The face only a mother could love.
03:26But it does look exactly like the animation model.
03:28Interesting mixed-media toy that has some plush aspects,
03:31but for the most part, it's more of an electronic thing.
03:34And they did this with all of the, uh, the Ice Age and the Meltdown toys.
03:37They were, like, half-plush, half-figure combinations,
03:41which I just think was such an interesting way to do this.
03:44Now, there actually was Ice Age action figures by Mattel.
03:49They were small.
03:50They were little tiny figures.
03:51And they even made a playset.
03:53Uh, but man, they are expensive.
03:56They're really expensive.
03:58The first of which is Scrat.
04:00And this is honestly one of the cutest Ice Age toys ever.
04:05It makes perfect sense.
04:06It's a nicely sculpted Scrat, and he is chasing the nut.
04:11Wait, there we go.
04:12Wait, come on.
04:13There we go.
04:14The soft surface isn't going to work for this toy to be effective.
04:17But you get the idea.
04:19You do that, and then he chases the nut.
04:22And it's very loud, as you can hear.
04:24But it makes for a lovely display piece because it says Ice Age right on it.
04:29So you just put that on the front of your shelf, and boom.
04:32Scrat.
04:32So we'll put that in front of our display.
04:35I have Scrat.
04:37He's supposed to have a nut, and he's supposed to launch his nut when you push his button.
04:41I shouldn't say that.
04:43That doesn't sound good on camera.
04:44It sounded better in my head.
04:46But it's an adorable Scrat figure, even without his nut.
04:50Look at that.
04:51Now, now we're getting somewhere.
04:52Now we have some displayable Ice Age figures.
04:54And finally, we have Scrat.
04:57Oh, so stunning, he knocked Scrat over.
05:00Scrat female version.
05:02This character's name is just Scrat, but it's spelt a little different.
05:05I guess that's the female way of spelling Scrat.
05:08But look at her sculpt.
05:09She looks the best out of all of them.
05:11She looks just like the one in the movie.
05:13And I'm sure this movie made many a furry.
05:16I know it did for me.
05:17I saw this when I was a kid.
05:19What I didn't see was that burlesque show.
05:21Probably for the better that I didn't see that.
05:23It would have made me super furry.
05:25But I'm furry enough as it is, seeing this and Shrek.
05:29I mean, come on.
05:30Dragon.
05:30Did he soft paws?
05:31Shrek's got good stuff for the furries.
05:33But here's Scrat.
05:35And she hides the nut.
05:37And then, how do you reveal the nut?
05:42Hmm.
05:44See if I can remember.
05:45I had this toy as a kid.
05:46And I can't remember.
05:48I guess that's it.
05:50I guess she just hides the nut.
05:51And then reveals it.
05:52So Scrat could be like, where is it?
05:54Nowhere.
05:55Shebang.
05:56Oh my god.
05:57Dies of furry.
05:58These designs are so lovely.
06:00I love the designs of the Scrat creatures in the Ice Age movies.
06:03Honestly, I'd be okay if they ditched Manny, Sid, Diego.
06:07Just, you know, have them all die from the asteroid.
06:09And just have a Scrat spinoff.
06:12Scrat somehow survives.
06:14He flew off to his planet that needed him.
06:16And has a spinoff adventure.
06:18I'm shocked they didn't do a Scrat movie.
06:20Probably to do with the lawsuit surrounding this character.
06:23I won't get into it.
06:24It's a whole rabbit hole.
06:25But Scrat was stolen.
06:27Yeah, Scrat was stolen from an independent artist.
06:29Who sued Disney.
06:30And won.
06:31Yeah, she actually won Scrat.
06:33And we still see the character used today.
06:35Because they are paying her fairly.
06:38And you know what?
06:39You love to see that.
06:40So many of these lawsuits either end in the artist getting screwed over.
06:43Which sucks.
06:44Or the character being retired.
06:46Due to some sort of legal drama.
06:48And it's amazing that Scrat is still used.
06:50And is now rightfully paid to the correct owner.
06:53Look it up.
06:54It's an interesting story.
06:55It's a fun thing to read like on your lunch break.
06:57And it'll make you feel good.
06:58Because it's the artists winning against the big companies.
07:01Which is so rare.
07:02So Scrat is more than just a Scrat looking for his nut.
07:06He is a symbol of independent artists.
07:09And that when you fight.
07:11Sometimes.
07:11Just sometimes.
07:13You win.
07:14This toy released in 2012.
07:16Which lines up perfectly.
07:18With underground culture.
07:20And pop culture exploding.
07:22And you can see also.
07:24Where McDonald's is starting to cheap out.
07:27With the kids meal.
07:28This is the beginning of the end.
07:29For the golden age of kids meals.
07:31Throughout the 2000's.
07:33We got amazing kids meal toys.
07:35And now we get sad kids meal toys.
07:37And this was the transitionary period.
07:39Where the toys just started getting cheaper.
07:41I mean look at this.
07:42This is no fun.
07:43But he does come with a pretty cool accessory.
07:46That makes up for his lack of fun.
07:48And that's you actually get a buildable ship.
07:51If you recall this is the pirate themed one.
07:54They're all sailing around.
07:56It's more action inspired by than the other Ice Age movies.
07:59And they even said it was inspired by Jerry Bruckheimer's Pirates of the Caribbean films.
08:04Which you know what?
08:06I actually see that.
08:07If you watch the film.
08:08It is very epic for an animated movie.
08:11It's interesting.
08:12And we have a little sad ship here.
08:15It's a fun toy though.
08:17There he is.
08:17And Scrat can command his ship.
08:21Continental Drift actually did get a full figure toy line.
08:25And behold.
08:26I have some of the minifigures here.
08:28Probably because this one was more action oriented.
08:32They went all out with the figures.
08:34And you were seeing some of the minifigures available.
08:37For whatever reason, Ice Age toys, they're a tough sell on the general market.
08:41Which I wonder.
08:42Like these movies make a billion dollars.
08:44Yet they can't sell the toys.
08:45What's up with that?
08:46Let me know in the comments what your theories are on why Ice Age toys don't sell.
08:51So that is Continental Drift.
08:53The final movie.
08:54The one with the asteroids that I don't even remember the name of.
08:57Because it was so bad and forgettable.
08:59If you would believe it, that movie had the best Ice Age toys we ever got.
09:04They actually made traditional articulated 4 inch figures of Manny, Sid, Diego, Scrat.
09:11I don't have any though.
09:12I don't have any.
09:13They're quite uncommon.
09:14So let me know in the comments if you'd love to see a follow up video.
09:17Where maybe I buy some of those figures.
09:20I don't know.
09:20If I see any more Ice Age stuff, I'll pick it up.
09:22Why not?
09:23I leave you with one last set of figures.
09:26And this was one that I wasn't even going to include.
09:28Because I found them literally the day before making this video.
09:32I found them at my flea market I just went to.
09:35Behold, the Ice Age Theodore Cup toppers.
09:38So this is the hidden secret.
09:40I'm going to tell you right now.
09:42Let's take a closer look at these guys.
09:44This is the hidden secret to collecting animated figures.
09:49We ended up getting some of the best figures of these characters.
09:53I mean, look at this Scrat.
09:54It looks wonderful.
09:57So, thanks for watching.
09:58And as always, take it away, Scrat.
10:02We're going to have a happily ever after.
10:05And he's not going to scream for me when I need him to.
10:08Do none of these toys walk?
10:10No!
10:11No!
10:16No!
10:18No!
10:20No!
10:20No!
