00:00These massive stairs lead to some of Norway's most spectacular views.
00:05But they're not built by machines.
00:08They're built by hand.
00:10This is Nima Sherpa.
00:12Every year, he travels nearly 6,000 kilometers from Nepal to Norway
00:16to build stone stairs on some of the country's most famous hiking trails.
00:21We are very happy to work in Norway and to be part of this project.
00:28Which will remain for many generations.
00:33For nearly 20 years, Sherpas have been building what Norwegians call Sherpa-trappe.
00:38Each section follows the natural shape of the mountain.
00:43Some stones weigh up to 1,000 kilos and every step is placed by hand.
00:49Hikers appreciate how the stairways make steep trails safer and open them up to more people.
00:54It's an incredible job that they're doing and if it makes it accessible for all, then fair play.
01:00But it's still a big hike up.
01:02The story began when a Norwegian builder, Gia Vetti, needed strong workers for a mountainside project.
01:09One night, I was dreaming.
01:12Then I was dreaming.
01:13I need Sherpa from Nepal.
01:16Sunni was put in touch with Nima's father and a unique partnership was born.
01:22For Nima and his team, building these paths is more than a job.
01:26It is also a spiritual act.
01:42Long after the Sherpas leave, their work remains, having changed how people experience Norway's mountains one step at a time.
01:51Thank you.
01:52Obrigado.
