00:00Now it's The Set Down with Emmy Rossum.
00:02Hi, Emmy.
00:03Let's talk Furious.
00:05You're the reason this show got made.
00:06And I know you were serious about researching real life
00:09FBI agents and other people in the true crime space.
00:12What was the main thing you were seeking in order
00:13to get this story and your performance in it exactly right?
00:17I was really fascinated by women in law enforcement.
00:20I got the chance to shadow and train
00:22with former and current FBI agents and former and current
00:25NYPD detectives, women and men.
00:28And I got the chance to train at a New York facility upstate
00:32and as well in Texas with a former FBI agent.
00:36It was really, really important for me to have the weapon
00:39feel like it was really part of my body.
00:41Not only from a job perspective, but also from the character's
00:45personal safety and background perspective.
00:49You think you have a serial killer?
00:51I do.
00:54What was your favorite aspect of working on the show?
00:56I definitely felt the sisterhood on Furious with Liz Merriweather
01:01and Quincy Tyler Bernstein.
01:04I definitely felt the female power.
01:07It's just incredible to be part of a show that also shoots in New York City
01:11where I live and love to work and to have the city be its own character in the story.
01:16And to have my kids able to come kind of visit the dressing room and hang out on set and,
01:22you know, be there when the ice cream truck comes for the whole crew.
01:24It's really nice to get to do drop off and then run to work.
01:28We keep up with you on Instagram, but I'm always curious when I follow celebs.
01:32How online are you on a scale of 1 to 10?
01:35I'm online in periods a lot, like too much.
01:40And then I have to go offline and I have to set limits and I'm thinking about getting a brick.
01:45It is, the algorithm is messing with my brain.
01:48So I, but I really do try to balance it out.
01:51I mean, there is so much of what we do.
01:53We have meetings virtually where our life is so digital now that I think it's important to go
01:58sit in Central Park and look at a tree.
02:00And I have my bench where I go and I look at my tree at least once a day.
02:04You said in an interview a few years ago that you were embracing your natural curls for your daughter.
02:09Now that your son is on the scene too, and they're both getting a little older,
02:13what are some of the changes you've noticed yourself making as a mom with them in mind?
02:16I feel like they can read my mind sometimes.
02:19So being careful about how I talk to myself in my head,
02:22because I feel like they can get a vibe of how I treat myself.
02:28And I think too much time online can cause us to be unkind to ourself through compare and despair.
02:34So I think it's important to talk to ourselves kindly, to be our own best friend,
02:40because that's what I want for my kids.
02:41I want them to, I'm always going to be their best friend.
02:44But when I'm not here, I want them to have each other and to be their own best friend.
02:47We also love your love of animals.
02:50You do such great work for rescue orgs and you yourself have rescued both cats and dogs.
02:55Make a case for why everyone should be both a cat and a dog person, not just one or the
03:00other.
03:00Dogs are easy to love, but you also have to take them out all the time, right?
03:07Cats are very self-sufficient.
03:09So if you're not the person that wants to come home midday on a Saturday from your brunch to walk
03:14your dog,
03:15and you want to just stay out all day hanging out at the park with your kids,
03:19or maybe you don't have kids yet.
03:20Or maybe you're, you know, day drinking with your buds.
03:24You're probably not doing that anymore if you're a mob.
03:27You know, you want a cat because you don't have to come home and walk them.
03:30I have been both a dog and a cat person and sometimes multiple dogs and a cat at once.
03:35Right now, we only have one dog.
03:36Okay, to end, we're going to put 10 seconds on the clock.
03:39Tell everyone why they should watch Furious.
03:42Furious is a twisty crime thriller.
03:44It has two amazing female characters at the center of it.
03:48It's sexy.
03:49It's propulsive.
03:49It's dark.
03:50It's weirdly funny.
03:52And you can't not love it.
