00:07How long is too long to wait to be taken home after a hospital appointment?
00:12Is it two hours? Four? Maybe even six?
00:16Well, for Kevin Taylor, he waited 19 hours from his appointment at Medway Maritime Hospital
00:23for transport to take him back to his care home in Minster.
00:27Kevin, or Kev Taylor, had an appointment at Medway On Call Care, Medoc, at 1.30pm on the 9th of
00:35July
00:35after he was referred by 111 and suspected of having deep vein thrombosis.
00:41He was done before half past two and then waited until 11.15am the next morning
00:48for patient transport provider G4S to come collect him.
00:52The staff at Medoc said they'd phone the patient transport up
00:58and then it started getting to about 6, 7 o'clock in the evening.
01:03So what I'd done, I sat out so it was cooler
01:06and the G4S supervisor was coming out saying that
01:13oh, they're not going to be long, not going to be long.
01:15And the more she said that they're not going to be long,
01:19the more I can sort of smell the poo.
01:22Wheelchair-bound and paralysed on one side,
01:26Kev was forced to sleep overnight in his chair
01:29after frequent phone calls by both himself and hospital staff to G4S proved fruitless.
01:35He was told he would then be collected first thing on Friday morning at 7.15am,
01:40but the car didn't arrive until four hours later.
01:45He now wants to hold G4S and Medway Community Healthcare,
01:48who provided the appointment, to account.
01:52Well, to be honest, I'm not overly keen on travelling with G4S again.
01:59Not happy at all.
02:02But sometimes needs must.
02:06When we got in contact, G4S apologised for the unacceptable wait,
02:11explained they are currently investigating Kev's complaint,
02:14received on the 10th of July,
02:15and have a statutory duty to complete this within 28 days.
02:19Medway Community Healthcare had said their staff tried to contact the provider
02:24to sort out the transport, but were unsuccessful.
02:27Although it wasn't ideal for him to spend the night in the hospital,
02:31there was no other transport to take him home.
02:34Luckily for Kev, he didn't have deep vein thrombosis,
02:38but the wait proved to be a bigger pain in the neck.
