00:0012 Years a Slave. Wow, wow, wow.
00:03So 12 Years a Slave, that was Patti Norris, a legend.
00:08May she rest in peace.
00:09One of the scenes is us picking cotton,
00:12and you're wearing these voluminous skirts.
00:16I remember the first day we shot the cotton.
00:19It was actually my first day on set,
00:21and it was 109 degrees in New Orleans.
00:26And it actually had me even more deeply understand the characters,
00:29because, like, imagine those conditions.
00:31You're wearing these big clothes,
00:32and you have to pick cotton at an incredible speed.
00:34Yeah, so it was all information gathering, these clothes.
00:38But I remember that particular dress,
00:40the pink dress where Patti is, I guess,
00:42protesting or advocating for herself.
00:45That dress, at first, it had a decolletage that was a lot higher.
00:50And so I remember saying to Patti,
00:52I think it would be great if we could see my clavicle
00:54because I have quite prominent clavicles, you know,
00:58to tell the story of how much she's diminished in this moment.
01:04And she cut off the neckline,
01:09and I remember she goes,
01:10you're right.
01:12And that was our costume.
