00:02The right of the terminally ill to end their life with medical help
00:06once again a reality in the NT.
00:09The CLP government is guaranteeing passage of the bill with majority support
00:14without any reliance on crossbench or opposition members.
00:18All 17 government members supporting the bill
00:21drafted against key recommendations from a CLP-led inquiry.
00:25There are elements in the bill that look like they have picked up bits of legislation
00:32that have been proven to not be the most effective, to cause unnecessary harm.
00:37Only Territorians with 12 months or less to live will be able to access VAD
00:42and doctors won't be able to recommend it to patients.
00:47That means that the patient initiates that conversation and once they do,
00:50then all of those discussions can occur.
00:52If you can't tell a person sitting in front of you
00:55all of their legally available health options,
00:58you're really not acting in current clinical practice guidelines.
01:02The Chief Minister, also happy to delve into another topic today,
01:06media reports that Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling
01:10allegedly assaulted the NT administrator at last weekend's Thai festival.
01:15If these allegations are true, clearly it doesn't meet the standard
01:19that the community expects of their elected officials.
01:21Mr Gosling categorically denying the allegations, labelling them ridiculous.
01:26NT police say their investigation into an incident involving David Connolly continues.
