00:00Es el 2022 que me lanzé ese short, en el muy comienzo de ello, lo hice principalmente en el final
00:04de 2021.
00:05Creo que Backrooms es una especie de parte de media muy meta de referencia de media en algunos niveles
00:12que presta a las personas que han perdido su lugar o propósito en la sociedad humana.
00:30Debido al estreno de esta película, nosotros tuvimos la oportunidad de ver la película completa.
00:34De hecho, ya seguía muy buen rato.
00:37Teníamos muchas ganas de compartírselos, pero pues insisto, los embargos son los embargos.
00:42Entonces, por eso están viendo este contenido hasta ahora.
00:44Kane Parsons, un director muy joven, youtuber, creador de contenido, director, experto en VFX.
00:53Esto es solo un poquito de contexto para que ustedes sepan con quién hablamos y cuál es el bagaje que
00:58trae este chavo.
01:00Que es muy joven, es su primera película, pero como para que se den una idea, este mundo, esta película
01:07que él creó,
01:08literalmente nació por una foto que alguien subió a 4chan o a Reddit.
01:16No me acuerdo dónde lo subieron, pero es una foto que es de donde salió la idea de los Backrooms.
01:20Y después alguien subió un párrafo como dándole contexto a esa foto, como dándole una historia a esa foto.
01:26Y de ahí nació lo que es ahora los Backrooms.
01:30Kane Parsons agarró esa premisa, hizo un cortometraje, lo subió a YouTube, explotó.
01:36De hecho, platicamos con él sobre eso.
01:39Y después de eso, gracias a la popularidad que ganó los Backrooms, se hicieron N cantidad de fan fictions alrededor
01:46de esa premisa.
01:47Y A24 se acercó a él, le dijo, oye, ¿no quieres hacer una película?
01:51Y dijo, órale, va, jalo, hago una película.
01:54Y por eso están a punto de ver esa entrevista, porque por fin esa película ya se estrenó.
01:58Una película que la verdad que siento que va a abrir la puerta al género del terror, a una generación
02:06completamente nueva.
02:07Esto es completamente Gen Z, me atrevería a decir.
02:10O sea, tiene una especie de lenguaje, inclusive la propia premisa de la foto, que es meramente Gen Z.
02:17O sea, tanto el lenguaje como el lore que trae esta película es completamente de otra generación.
02:24Y hay que ponerle mucho ojo a eso, porque probablemente estos sean los creadores de contenido.
02:30Estos sean los directores que van a marcar una tendencia a partir de ahora.
02:34Y que ya lo estamos viendo con películas como Bring Her Back, como Talk To Me, como Obsession y, por
02:40supuesto, Backrooms.
02:41Entonces, sin más preámbulo, les agradezco mucho por estar viendo este video.
02:46Y ojalá que disfruten la entrevista con Kane Parsons por Backrooms.
02:55Bueno, primero de todo, felicitaciones.
02:57De nuevo, me encanta el filme.
02:59Gracias.
02:59Creo que va a ser como, no estoy malo, como The Shining for a Nueva Generación.
03:03Estoy completamente honesto aquí.
03:07Estoy preguntando si has visto el filme con un público?
03:09He visto versiones.
03:11Hemos hecho un trabajo de testes con él, pero no la final versión.
03:14Y creo que hayan cambios en algunos niveles de artística que han llegado a un lugar más elevado en los
03:20últimos meses de trabajo.
03:22Así que creo que será un experiencia muy breve cuando llegamos a hacer un escenario.
03:27He encontrado un lugar.
03:34He preguntado si me puede volver a ese primer video que se publicó.
03:37the first back room
03:38and how is it like
03:40just to place
03:41upload
03:41close your laptop
03:42go sleep
03:43versus perhaps
03:44you just finish the film
03:46actually finishing the film
03:47closing
03:48you know
03:49that chapter
03:50and just waiting
03:51for it to release
03:52to the audience
03:52yeah
03:52I mean
03:53the first short
03:54I
03:54just really fast version
03:56was you know
03:57there was all this buzz
03:58about liminal spaces
03:59and whatnot
04:00for years
04:01online
04:01or a couple years
04:02during the
04:02you know
04:03the pandemic era
04:04and
04:05it was 2022
04:06that I
04:08released that short
04:08at the very beginning of it
04:09I made it mostly
04:10in the end of 2021
04:11took about a month
04:12where I was kind of just
04:13I was fatigued
04:14with the other work
04:15I was doing on YouTube
04:15at the time
04:16so I kind of
04:16as a palette cleanser
04:18I tried addressing
04:19what it would be like
04:19to walk around
04:20or explore the space
04:22of
04:24you know
04:25the back rooms
04:25like it was known
04:26as the back rooms
04:27and it was like
04:27maybe not as convoluted
04:29or
04:31fleshed out
04:31at that point in time
04:32it was starting
04:32from a place of
04:33I think simplicity
04:35but it was sort of like
04:36you know
04:36there's all these photos
04:37there's not really
04:38any video content
04:38of what it would be like
04:39to turn the camera around
04:40and just explore the place
04:41so it's a bit of a simple
04:42like almost tech demo
04:43in that way
04:44where I'd been learning
04:45Blender 3D software
04:46for a bit
04:46and you know
04:48I was exploring that there
04:49so I did that short
04:49and I did
04:51I did go to sleep
04:52right when I posted it
04:53except I
04:54I was supposed to release
04:55the next day
04:56at noon
04:56it was scheduled
04:57but I did something wrong
04:58apparently
04:59because I woke up
05:00the next day
05:00and it released
05:00at 3 a.m. that night
05:01so it was already out
05:03and you know
05:04like started slow
05:05but then gained traction
05:06like out of nowhere
05:07pretty quickly
05:07and somehow turned
05:09into this
05:09I don't know
05:10how that happened
05:10but like
05:12I think at this point
05:13in time
05:13I'm still in a state
05:14of like
05:14I don't know
05:15I haven't processed
05:15finishing this yet
05:16it's been a crazy year
05:17of like non-stop work
05:19I don't think I've done
05:20I've done a single thing
05:21that's not been
05:21directly related
05:22to finishing this film
05:24until this past week
05:25when we did finish it
05:26so right now
05:27you're speaking to me
05:28and I'm kind of like
05:29shell-shocked
05:30a little bit
05:32but it feels very
05:33like relaxing
05:34and I'm just excited
05:36to finally be able
05:37to share it with people
05:43I love it
05:46it's also really
05:47interesting for me
05:48that you deal
05:49with subjects
05:50as loneliness
05:50and loss
05:52and you know
05:53feeling alone
05:54in a world
05:55it's so really
05:55interesting to me
05:56that perhaps
05:59you yourself
06:00have been dealing
06:01with some stuff
06:01and perhaps
06:02back rooms
06:03help you
06:04you know
06:04to flush out
06:05so many things
06:06I was wondering
06:06how would this movie
06:08help you
06:08perhaps
06:09to flush away
06:10of so many things
06:11that you perhaps
06:12deal with them
06:13with your characters
06:14yeah I think
06:15back rooms
06:16it's a very meta
06:17self-referential
06:18kind of piece of media
06:19on a few levels
06:22where I think
06:23that like
06:24inherently
06:25like what I get out
06:26of like I'm
06:26you know
06:27I'm not beyond
06:29being affected
06:29by the work
06:30that I'm doing
06:30and like you know
06:31I'm doing it
06:31for a very specific reason
06:33whether or not
06:33some of these reasons
06:34are like subconscious
06:35and I don't
06:36quite know it
06:37but I would say
06:37a lot of it
06:38is like very much
06:39you know
06:40in doing this
06:40you are exploring
06:42this sort of
06:43you're giving
06:43a very specific shape
06:45a physical shape
06:45to lots of
06:48impersonal
06:49mechanisms
06:49of just
06:50you know
06:50not just the world
06:51we live in
06:52but even just like
06:53you know
06:54more into the
06:55sci-fi realm
06:56of this
06:56like you know
06:56just the universe
06:57like things
06:58that our brains
06:59have a hard time
06:59processing
07:00and sort of
07:01walking right up
07:01to the line
07:02of what is
07:02real sensory experience
07:03and what is just
07:04complete hallucination
07:05like reality
07:06being noise
07:07and the brain
07:07is doing its best
07:08job to parse it
07:09together
07:09and you know
07:10we're a species
07:11not built
07:11to perceive
07:12the universe
07:13we're built
07:13to you know
07:15make more humans
07:16is sort of
07:18biologically
07:18where that's
07:19coming from
07:20and I think
07:22I think that like
07:24it's kind of
07:25just been in the same way
07:26that there's like
07:26an immense curiosity
07:27in the universe
07:28around like
07:28in both the YouTube series
07:30where it's focused
07:30on this MRI research institute
07:32that is like
07:32losing its mind
07:34and trying to figure out
07:35like you know
07:35how to think about
07:36the backgrounds
07:37but also how to
07:38like you know
07:38exploit it
07:39and like what is
07:39you know
07:40how is it addressed
07:41in a fairly practical
07:42and I like to think
07:42realistic manner
07:43but then
07:43in this film
07:44you have you know
07:45a similar version
07:46of that where
07:46you know
07:47it's just someone
07:48who's not coming
07:48from that background
07:49but is still trying
07:50to apply you know
07:51scientific method
07:52and principles
07:52to like figuring out
07:54what on earth
07:54this thing is
07:55and I think that
07:56like just the immense
07:56curiosity of that
07:57is kind of
07:58I think there's many
07:59ways of looking at it
08:00but I think it feels
08:01as though almost
08:02like the backrooms
08:02is
08:03and I wouldn't
08:04directly refer to it
08:05this but it's almost
08:06like that is the trap
08:07like it's a trap
08:09of curiosity
08:10that kind of preys
08:11on people
08:12who have lost
08:13their place
08:14or purpose
08:14in like human society
08:17because human society
08:18has built the backrooms
08:20and has sort of
08:23you know
08:24pushed itself
08:25to the brink
08:25of atomization
08:26where those kinds
08:27of experiences
08:28for people
08:28are I think
08:30are becoming
08:31unfortunately
08:31a little bit
08:32more common
08:33increasingly
08:33so I think
08:35it's maybe
08:37a bit of a
08:37complex answer
08:38but it's like
08:38a big self-fulfilling
08:39cycle of building
08:40a system
08:40that controls
08:41kind of all of us
08:42but no one person
08:43controls it
08:44and trying to find
08:45a sort of
08:45holding on to
08:46a purpose
08:46in that
08:47in there every night
08:48since I found the place
08:49and I still barely
08:50scratched the surface
08:51all right
08:52just take it slow
08:54finally
08:55my time is right now
08:55but your film
08:57is beautiful
08:58and it's something
08:59creepy and weird
09:01about that beauty
09:02and I just wanted
09:03to ask you
09:03which of the films
09:04that perhaps shaped
09:06that taste you have
09:07in order to
09:08you know
09:08portray it in backrooms
09:09I wish I could give
09:10let me think
09:10let me think
09:11I'm so bad at
09:14probably more television
09:15honestly
09:16oh right
09:16I mean I grew up
09:17with web series
09:17and so there's a ton
09:18of that in there
09:19like tons of like
09:20random little
09:21internet references
09:21and stuff
09:22but also just
09:24like Mr. Robot
09:25is probably my
09:25favorite piece of media
09:26I've watched it
09:27way too many times
09:29you know
09:30I think there's
09:30stuff that like
09:31Vince Gilligan does
09:32that I really appreciate
09:33about like you know
09:35attention to like
09:35method and
09:36or like process
09:37and like the
09:38very mundane
09:39process you have to
09:40go through
09:40for certain things
09:41I think is kind of
09:43a tempo that I like
09:44I think there's
09:45I'm sorry
09:46there's probably like a
09:46bunch that I could do
09:47just my brain's not
09:48not not thinking of
09:49the references right
09:50now I bet
09:50but it's beautiful
09:52congratulations again
09:53it's just lovely
09:54talking to you
09:55thank you very much
09:56thank you very much
09:56congratulations
