00:00Gandhi there addressing a press conference almost an hour-long press conference that went in
00:06at the Congress headquarters. This is the day after he had protested in a surprise way
00:13at the doorstep of the Prime Minister's residence exactly at the door at the gates of Prime
00:20Minister's residence. He was picked up later you're looking at those pictures over there
00:24taken in detention and later released as well. This morning as an aftermath of that we've seen
00:31a protest versus protest for you know sort of panning out across the country. Also it was
00:38observed as a black day in Parliament where opposition MPs turned up in black suits. Also
00:45one to say that government must talk. Now where is this entire student protest at as we
00:54speak? The Congress is very clear that they want resignation before talks. They want the
01:02resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan before the issue is discussed in Parliament.
01:10The government so far not willing on that matter. In fact if there's one demand wherein the Congress
01:17overlaps with what the student bodies have also been saying it is the resignation of Dharmendra
01:23Pradhan. Will that really happen or not? We continue to wait and watch. All this while we report the
01:31story let me remind you Sonam Vangchuk is on day 25 of his fast. He is in Medanta. He had
01:41a small victory
01:43yesterday at the High Court and was taken from Sabdarjung Hospital and taken to Medanta. In all of this let
01:50me again
01:51remind you it's day 25 of his fast. Let me cut across now to my colleague Moshami who joins us
01:57for the very
01:58latest on the story was attending that press conference as well. Moshami there were some easy
02:04questions thrown at Rahul Gandhi that oh you got hurt and there were some presentations made at him as well.
02:13Overall what is your sense which way is the opposition really going on the story of asking and demanding for
02:22the
02:22Education Minister's resignation? How united is their voice and do you see the government crumbling in at the moment?
02:34See Sonal I can only tell you that what Rahul Gandhi's press conference the big takeaway really was that he
02:41made it very clear point blank that the demand for the resignation of the education minister is a non-negotiable
02:49demand. So thereby underlining that this is going to not really end up any time soon considering the fact that
02:57the Modi government has been very clear.
03:00clear on this one and clearly he also reiterated continuously what the students were demanding saying we are completely in
03:09solidarity with whatever the students demand significant was that he did not make any mention of CJP the Cockroach Janata
03:17Party.
03:18He referred to the ongoing agitation as the students agitation and the students demand and spoke about what happened with
03:25the students.
03:27Also he said that you know taking the opposition parties on board saying that what we are going to do
03:33next we will consult our opposition other opposition leaders and decide tomorrow that what lies ahead.
03:40But clearly Rahul Gandhi doesn't seem to be really really he said that it's not important what I had to
03:49go through or whether they pulled me in fact also saying that the cops who were ferrying him out of
03:55the out of the prime minister's residence they were also mentioning that get this government out and thereby and he
04:02hasn't done it the first time.
04:04He has in fact spoken about BJP MPs talking to him that is Rahul Gandhi the way he really wants
04:12to bring out his point of point but putting on a papa presentation you know and he's done it several
04:20times on the vote chori campaign as well.
04:23This time round also Rahul Gandhi put on a put out a presentation in fact underlining that this was a
04:31crisis that will only escalate in the coming future.
04:34All right Moshimi stay back with me let me also get a word from Maria Shaquille she covers the government
04:39and let me try and get a sense from her on where this is going.
04:43Maria if you see the developments of the past 24 hours they are significant.
04:48It is day 25 of Sonam Bangchuk being on the fast.
04:52The government has actually opened channels of communication two different channels of communication opened by two different ministers.
04:59You have JP Nadas trying to speak with the students you have Jitendra Singh trying to speak with the opposition
05:05and both together went to meet Sonam Bangchuk late last night as well.
05:10They had a 10 minute conversation is what my sources are telling us inside Medanta and again the issue in
05:16front of him was why don't you break your fast the government is concerned.
05:20At this point looking at all these developments are we coming to a tipping point are we coming to a
05:28stage in this entire protest where there could be an actual resolution in the next 12 to 24 hours is
05:36that a possibility at this point?
05:38Well the fact that Sonam Bangchuk has now written a letter again gives us a clear indication of the manner
05:47in which as far as his you know fast is concerned will go.
05:53But talking about the politics around it that becomes important.
05:56Look what we saw yesterday in front of the seven LKM prime minister's residents was perhaps the political high point.
06:04With Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Sule, various opposition leaders and faces all coming together.
06:13And chief ministers of the congress party, two congress chief ministers D.K. Shivkumar and V.D. Satishan in attendance.
06:19But what has happened today becomes equally important.
06:23First the Aam Admi party as Rahul Gandhi was staging that protest said that is there some kind of jugalbandi
06:29between the government and Rahul Gandhi?
06:32Why this instant reaction and instant attempt at dialogue with Jitendra Singh meeting Rahul Gandhi?
06:39Today what has happened is that inside parliament and the indication that has come in from the Samajwadi party is
06:45that they want discussion first.
06:48And any resignation or demand for resignation is not something that they are insisting upon.
06:53So Samajwadi party right now and Akhilesh Yadav want discussion on the floor of the parliament under whatever section that
07:02the government agrees upon.
07:04And you know that is I think the political division or should I say the approach that various political parties
07:11are having to this issue becomes the high point today.
07:13As Rahul Gandhi in that press conference insisted.
07:16But I am just interrupting you for a minute because we have a latest point that he has just given.
07:20He has written in now this time for the first time from the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
07:26He says,
07:26Dear Nadda Ji and Jitendra Singh Ji, thank you for visiting me at the hospital last night.
07:31And for your earnest appeal that I end my fast.
07:34During our discussion, you assured me that the government would positively consider the following.
07:39Number one, adequate compensation for the families of students who committed suicide following the examination paper leak.
07:45A meaningful discussion.
07:47Number two, in parliament to ensure accountability including consideration of resignation of
07:53including consideration of resignation.
07:56I am saying that line again.
07:58Including consideration of resignation of Honourable Education Minister.
08:03The Chalo Sunset March on 20th of July remained very peaceful despite the atrocities.
08:08And disproportionate use of force by the police.
08:11The entire nation and the world witnessed their patience and commitment to democratic protest.
08:17He goes on to write then,
08:19I sincerely hope that this faith in democratic institutions is not further undermined by any legal cases,
08:28harassment or vindictive action against those who participated.
08:34After your visit, roughly 65 members of parliament from across political parties have written to me.
08:43Some have already come.
08:45Others are expected later this evening.
08:48They have all urged me to end my fast,
08:51reminding me that I still have much work to do in the service of the nation.
08:57He goes on to say,
08:58And this is the critical part.
09:00I agree with them.
09:01I want to live.
09:02I want to return to my students,
09:04to education and to the work that has defined my life.
09:08But I cannot do so at the cost of the very young people for whom this movement began.
09:14Therefore,
09:14I respectfully request an unequivocal assurance from the government that none of the young protesters will face any punitive legal
09:24action for participating in the movement.
09:27Their only offence has been to raise their voice for fair and accountable education system.
09:32If such an assurance is given,
09:34I shall end my fast with faith that the government has heard not only my appeal,
09:41but also the aspirations of lakhs of young Indians.
09:44In the absence of such assurance,
09:46I am forced to continue my fast indefinitely.
09:49So,
09:50Maria,
09:50what is clear?
09:52You spoke about a divide and I have been noticing this divide right from Monday,
09:57when the protests actually became violent.
10:00CJP,
10:01young people,
10:03youth protesters asking for resignation of education minister.
10:07Rahul Gandhi asking for it.
10:09But the opposition is now,
10:11and even Sonam Vangchuk seems to want an assurance of action,
10:16but not resignation itself to end his fast.
10:20This is critical.
10:21Yes,
10:21I would say that as the big talking point in that letter,
10:25which he has written,
10:27in which he is giving a clear indication,
10:28that he wants assurances from the government,
10:31that he wants an assurance that there'll be no punitive action against all the students who participated in the protest
10:38on 20th,
10:38that he wants an assurance from the government,
10:40that there would be concerns,
10:42the concerns of students with regards to the reforms that the education sector will be addressed.
10:47He wants an assurance from the government that all those issues that they are raising will be considered.
10:52I think that's the big talking point.
10:54And he is speaking on the behalf of the students.
10:57He is speaking on behalf of all those students who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the last 25
11:02days.
11:03So I would see this as almost a point where the government's assurances will be coming in next,
11:09because the government over the last 24 hours has given us enough indication,
11:15Sonam,
11:16that they are open to talks,
11:17that there have been talks.
11:19Even as we speak,
11:20I do not rule out the possibility of an engagement between the CJP representatives and government ministers.
11:27And this letter coming at this point certainly means that Sonam Vangchuk's fast could be a matter of another 24
11:35to 48 hours.
11:36He wants assurances from the government and the government is ready to give those assurances.
11:42Assurance is not resignation.
11:44That is the story from here.
11:47And also Sonam Vangchuk is saying very clearly that consideration of the resignation of Honourable Education Minister,
11:53not the resignation itself.
11:55It is a climb down for Sonam Vangchuk.
11:58And to be fair,
11:59right from Monday morning is when he has been saying he removed that demand from his letter.
12:04CJP continued to ask for it as well.
12:06So these are interesting times.
12:08Let me cut across to Amit Bharatwaj,
12:09who is also joining us with the latest on this story.
12:12Amit,
12:12the picture has now dramatically changed.
12:15Sonam Vangchuk saying,
12:16in his typical way of writing and style,
12:21he says,
12:21I want to live,
12:22I want to end my fast,
12:24but I want assurance.
12:25And I want consideration of resignation.
12:29Consideration being the operative word here,
12:31I am underlining it again and again,
12:33of resignation of Honourable Education Minister.
12:36What is a likely response from the government on this one?
12:41Sonal,
12:42you are rightly pointing out that the major point in that letter,
12:45consideration,
12:46and not adamant,
12:48as adamant as Sonam Vangchuk and Cockroachanta Party was on resignation of Education Minister,
12:56Dharmendra Prudhan.
12:57Because when you use the word consideration,
12:59you are putting the ball in someone else's court.
13:02And it is now in the government's court,
13:04whether they will consider to,
13:07you know,
13:07replace or remove Mr. Dharmendra Prudhan or not.
13:10So that is a major,
13:11major scale down as far as Sonam Vangchuk's demand is concerned
13:15in context to the ongoing agitation of the students at Jansar Mantar.
13:19We do not know as to whether Mr. Abhijit Bhikshethi would be,
13:24you know,
13:25was aware of these developments
13:27because there have been several rounds of communication on the part of the government.
13:33I am also aware that today,
13:35there were certain communications also made,
13:38you know,
13:39urging Sonam Vangchuk to end his fast.
13:42And the opposition parties are also urging him to end his fast,
13:46saying that you are an activist to the country
13:48and that the country needs you
13:51and hence you must end your fast.
13:52In fact,
13:53as we speak sometime later this evening,
13:55the opposition delegation is expected to meet Sonam Vangchuk
13:59in Medhamsa Hospital
14:00and urging him to end the fast-off
14:03of communications happening from the government
14:05and opposition side as well,
14:06but a major scale down as far as the demand part is concerned.
14:10Consideration of resignation of Mr. Dharmendra Prudhan
14:14is what Sonam Vangchuk has urged the government,
14:17but the more important point out here
14:19is that Sonam Vangchuk is asking assurance from the government
14:22that no legal proceedings will happen against the students
14:27who were out there on the streets on July 20th.
14:30Because Delhi Police has already initiated several cases
14:34and probes into whatever developed through the day
14:37on the 20th of July
14:39and if these legal proceedings go forward,
14:43it will be a major trouble
14:44not only for the students
14:45who had come from several parts of the country
14:47but also the organizers
14:48who were holding this protest at Jantar Mantar
14:51and continue to do so.
14:52So what we need to look out for
14:55is whether the CJP's core team
14:58is happy with this scale down
15:00and number two,
15:01how is the opposition going to tackle this situation
15:04because Congress party and Rahul Gandhi
15:06are adamant,
15:08the leader of opposition is adamant
15:09that this will,
15:11this lockdown in the parliament
15:12will move on
15:13only when there is a sacking,
15:16the sacking of the Union and Education Minister happens
15:18and a discussion under adjournment motion.
15:21Back to you.
15:22Right.
15:22And Amit,
15:23I think,
15:23would it be fair to say
15:25that the consolidation of protests,
15:29the consolidation of youth uniting
15:32for this protest
15:34happened with Sonam Vangchuk being picked up
15:37in those pictures
15:38as he is showing our viewers as well.
15:40The manner in which,
15:42the cover up with which
15:43he was picked up from Jantar Mantar
15:46is what really agitated the young people.
15:49So if he is the rallying point
15:50and he is not asking for resignation,
15:53does that dilute the demand
15:55in any way?
15:56That is the key question here,
15:58isn't it?
16:00Right, Sonal.
16:01You know,
16:01if you compare those visuals,
16:02it would remind you
16:04of what happened during UPA2.
16:07The day Anna Hazare was arrested,
16:09that's when
16:10India Against Corruption movement
16:12had increased leaps and bounds.
16:15People were angry across the country
16:16and that visual in the morning,
16:18the way Sonam Vangchuk
16:19was picked up from Jantar Mantar,
16:21it rattled youth,
16:22it rattled people
16:23in every generation
16:25and resulting into
16:27what he saw
16:27on 20th of July.
16:29He told that
16:30no women of us
16:30were even sure
16:32that what kind of crowd
16:33would turn up
16:33on 20th of July
16:34and I believe
16:35the CJP was not even
16:36sure about
16:38what scale
16:39this would go on to.
16:41Had they not been
16:42anticipating big crowds,
16:44he wouldn't have been
16:44picked up as well.
16:45That's also a reality, right?
16:47So let me counter myself
16:48and ask you
16:49the other opinion then.
16:50Things have changed
16:52ever since
16:52Sonam Vangchuk
16:53was picked up.
16:54It's the brutal force
16:56that was seen
16:56on the streets
16:57through Monday,
16:59Tuesday,
17:00through both
17:0128th and 21st of July,
17:03that has now
17:04become a talking point.
17:06Young people
17:06are angry,
17:07upset,
17:08just wild
17:09about the way
17:09the police came down
17:11on them
17:11and so is the police
17:12because they also
17:13faced some,
17:15you know,
17:15brutality,
17:16there is always
17:17in a protest
17:18like this,
17:18there will always
17:19be casualties,
17:21there will always
17:22be people
17:23on both sides
17:24who will get hurt.
17:25That's just the nature
17:26of protests
17:26like these.
17:27So if that is
17:28a rallying point now,
17:30is that the reason
17:31why the youth
17:32and the opposition
17:33now is saying
17:34there will not be
17:35a climb down
17:35from Sonam,
17:36from Dharmeinder Pradhan's
17:38resignation demand?
17:41Sonam,
17:42you know,
17:42in fact,
17:42what opposition parties
17:44are trying to do
17:45is not only
17:46defend these students
17:47who might be
17:49facing a legal action
17:50specifically where
17:51there are shortages
17:52available for Delhi
17:53police to carry
17:54forward the cases
17:56but they are also
17:57asking for a probe
17:58against Delhi police
17:59officials who
18:00as per them,
18:01you know,
18:02went beyond
18:03what could have been
18:04the brief
18:05and lucky charge
18:06and in fact,
18:07I spoke to Mr.
18:08Pawan Khaira
18:08this morning
18:08who was saying
18:09skeletons were used.
18:10So they want
18:11a full-fledged
18:12investigation
18:12into the action
18:13of Delhi police
18:14of 20th of July.
18:15So the rallying point
18:17in a way
18:18is also shifting.
18:19The CJP would also
18:20not want legal action
18:21to be initiated
18:22against these students.
18:24Sonam Bangsuk does not
18:25want that happen
18:26either
18:26and the opposition
18:27is also asking
18:28for the same
18:29but if you go on
18:30to the press conference
18:31of Rahul Gandhi
18:32which happened
18:33sometime back only,
18:35again,
18:36he was showing
18:36through those visuals
18:37trying to establish
18:38as to what unfolded
18:39in the national capital
18:40on 20th of July
18:42and again,
18:43the Congress party
18:44wants a probe
18:45against the Delhi
18:46police officials
18:47but again,
18:49the question would be
18:49what happens
18:50to the police officials
18:52who were injured
18:53during the handling
18:55of the protests
18:56as well.
18:56So that is also a question
18:58because Delhi police
18:59is certainly making
19:01claims
19:02and they have also
19:03shared their visuals
19:04of their personal
19:04getting hurt
19:06during the handling
19:07of the protests,
19:08their vehicles
19:08being targeted
19:10so that is also
19:11one aspect
19:12of 20th July
19:15episode
19:15and the movement
19:16that we saw
19:17unfolded
19:18in the national capital
19:18around the parliament
19:20itself.
19:21So it's interesting
19:22as to how opposition
19:23re-strategizes
19:25themselves
19:26as far as
19:27the parliamentary
19:27procedure.
19:28Understanding then,
19:29Amit.
19:29Thanks so much
19:29for joining us.
19:30Let me cut across
19:31live now
19:32to Jantar Mantar
19:33where I have
19:35my colleague
19:39Sushant,
19:39I have my colleague

19:45Sushant,
19:46can we give a sense
19:47that what is going on
19:48Jantar Mantar
19:49in this time?
19:50Sonam Vangchuk
19:51has another time
19:52left a letter
19:53in three days
19:55and the other time
19:56they have
19:56resignation
19:57in the same way
19:58of Dharmedra Pradhan

20:20Hello?
20:22Hello?
20:25sushant if you can hear me
20:30all right understandably ajantar mantar there are jammers and the line is not very good so
20:35we'll try and connect with sushant in a bit from now but let me give you a quick recap into
20:41how
20:42the past couple of days for sonam vangchuk have been now remember today is day 25 of his past
20:49and he's still firm about continuing it but what exactly is his health condition let me tell you
20:54about that a panel of doctors is monitoring him this is in accordance to what the high court had
21:00asked for fresh blood work had been ordered yesterday reports for which will be expected
21:05anytime now and if they come back well sonam vangchuk he's currently in icu number eight
21:12at medanta medicity in gurugram will be moved i am told to a private ward by today evening
21:21now what are doctors really watching out for doctors are at the moment watching out closely
21:26at his potassium levels at his sodium levels as well these numbers will decide which way his
21:32health actually turns so what happens for you to get an understanding of when your body gets no food
21:39for 25 days okay first it burns the stored sugar then it turns to fat burns that but the brain
21:49still
21:50needs glucose so the body starts breaking down muscle to make it which is why prolonged fasting causes
21:56muscle loss not just weight loss and in an extreme condition this can be extremely dangerous even life
22:04threatening alongside this electrolytes fall sodium and potassium controls the heartbeat remember and
22:11your nervous system a sharp drop in potassium can trigger irregular heartbeats one of the biggest risks
22:18in long-term hunger strikes which is why fluid intake becomes extremely important iv becomes very
22:26important as well but for now in a medical bulletin that came just about half an hour ago today from
22:33medanta we are told that wang chuk remains to be under watch remains to be stable remains alert he's
22:41talking and one of the doctors who's actually visiting him told me that he seems to be in good spirits
22:47and
22:48even they are surprised at how a man his age after 25 days of fasting continues to have a resolve
22:55like
22:55this so that's the latest coming in from medanta and remember this is at a time when a lot has
23:03happened
23:04overnight he actually moved to medanta just yesterday evening and late in the evening at around 11 30 at night
23:13is when he got two visitors two union ministers came to see him it was jp nada and jitendra singh
23:20remember jp nada
23:21the man who's been engaging with the youth and jitendra singh the man responsible and designated by the
23:28government to engage with the opposition after having spoken to both those fronts they actually
23:33went and met wang chuk in response sonam wang chuk has now released the letter of appeal as well he
23:39has
23:40heightened his demand and in fact gone on to say that he wants those cases which have been put against
23:47the student protesters to be taken away and a consideration of resignation of dhandarend pradhan
23:53along with you know a promise to work on it will make him break his fast but nothing less
24:02but as we talk about this there is a possible breakthrough that may finally be emerging in
24:08the standoff between government and the cjp over the neat paper leak protests sources are saying that
24:15a meeting between bjp president jp nadda and cjp representatives is now on the cards but the talks
24:21will take place not at nadda's residence at a neutral venue which is being worked out and could be
24:29finalized shortly before the day ends we are told there is a possibility of talks of round two of talks
24:38between the youth protesters the representatives there being the kokro janta party spokesperson
24:44abhijita and also sorab das and then there is jp nadda from the government side the cjp says
24:52that the government reacted out again in fact they reached out to them but they flatly refused any
24:59invitation to meet at nadda's home insisting that the minister should instead come to jantar
25:05the protest group however agreed for a talks finally at a neutral location but even as channels
25:13of communications open the cjp is refusing to dilute the three key demands the resignation of
25:18union minister education minister dharmentra pradhan withdrawal of firs against protesters and
25:24one crore rupee compensation for need related suicide victims what india today is learning at the
25:30moment is that the government is happy to give compensation but on resignation and withdrawal
25:35of firs there is no clarity yet in fact india today is on the ground rasheef sardisai spoke with
25:42sorab das who was in that meeting with jp nadda listen in
25:51okay with me is the chief spokesperson of the kokro janta party sorab das uh sorab we are told that
25:57the
25:57government wants to reinitiate a second round of talks with you have you been told about it and are
26:02you willing to go and talk to jp nadda and the government ministers see we've been open to talks
26:07from day one and that in that spirit you know on 20th july also uh we were called for talks
26:14at 6 30 a.m
26:15and since then uh you know we were negotiating with the police on a senior minister and ultimately we
26:22did go meet uh jp nadda however this time we have put two conditions number one that the government
26:28comes with open mind to accept our conditions only then will we come and talk with them and number two
26:34this time we are not going to go to his house or his office we want to uh we want
26:39the government to
26:39come to us and therefore they should come to janta mantra you want the minister to come to janta
26:43mantra but however we are rational educated people uh so we do understand if he fears that there's a
26:50security situation here we are willing to meet at another neutral place like the constitution club
26:55and your demands remain the same resignation of the demands remain the same uh we want dharmendra
27:01pradhan's resignation we want one crore compensation for the families of the dead neat victims
27:06and we uh there's a third demand that any uh firs that have been filed against uh peaceful protesters
27:13those have to be withdrawn and a sovereign guarantee ought to come from the government that they won't
27:18proceed against anyone who has participated in this what about those since you're saying firs what
27:23about those who are seen on uh video resorting to violence surely there will be action again those
27:28who have targeted raf or who have targeted uh government property police property there should
27:33be an independent and thorough inquiry into the incident of police brutality you would have seen a
27:39number the internet is flooded with videos of police resorting to brutal almost lethal kind of
27:45lati charge uh using pellet guns they have broken legs they have denied they have denied pellet guns and
27:52they are saying policemen are also injured and they have put out videos uh or videos have been put
27:56out also of policemen who have been injured or have been targeted there are several videos of policemen
28:01just sitting there like this doing nothing there's no wound that is visible but on the other hand you
28:07look at the crackdown that has happened on peaceful protesters uh the police will of course run their
28:11narrative they are going to say we did nothing they even put out a tweet clarifying and saying that
28:17we are we have we have acted very professionally and have used minimum force but if you see the
28:22videos it is telling a completely different brutal story what happens if dharma indra pradhan doesn't
28:26resign the protest will continue the protest is going larger there are protests across the country
28:31and uh this protest is going to become bigger and bigger we had rahul gandhi yesterday protesting
28:37outside prime minister's residence and there is a feeling that this is now a battle between cjp
28:41and possibly arm army party on one side rahul gandhi on the other has this movement got totally
28:46political now see i don't think i don't think uh we subscribe to such narratives there have been
28:51several narratives that have been run against us from day one and that includes uh being foreign
28:57funder soros funder and whatnot none of them have stuck why because the movement is uh for the truth
29:04there are facts involved there are of course people have realized how bad the education system
29:09has become and therefore none of these are false narratives have been able to see so there's no
29:14competition kakru janta party versus congress party i've seen leaders coming here of different parties
29:20is this now a politic has your movement gone out of your control and become a political movement or
29:26indeed of a movement of the youth i don't i don't think there should be a negative connotation to the
29:31word politics because uh the entire issue with our education system and the massive amount of
29:37problems that we face in this country is precisely because people don't want to engage with anything
29:42quote-unquote political this is a political youth movement the issues are political the answer has to
29:48be political also if the system has to be reformed it has to be through a political process in parliament
29:53implemented by political masters is this an anti-mode let me counter myself and ask you the other
29:59opinion then things have changed ever since sonam vangchuk was picked up it's the brutal force that was
30:06seen on the streets or through monday tuesday through both 28th and 21st of july that has now become a
30:14talking point young people are angry upset just while about the way the police came down on them
30:21and so is the police because they also faced some you know brutality there is always in a protest like
30:28this there will always be casualties there will always be people on both sides who will get hurt
30:34that's just the nature of protests like these so if that is a rallying point now is that the reason
30:41why the youth and the opposition now is saying there will not be a climb down from sonam uh from
30:46dharmendra pradhan's uh resignation demand uh so no you know in fact uh what opposition parties are
30:54trying to do is not only defend these students who might be facing a legal action specifically where
31:01there are shortages available for delhi police to carry forward uh the cases but they are also asking
31:07for a probe against delhi police officials who as per them uh you know went beyond uh what uh could
31:14have been the brief and lucky charge and in fact i spoke to mr pavan khaira this morning he was
31:18saying
31:19collect guns were used so they want a full-fledged investigation into the action of delhi police of
31:2320th of july uh so at the rallying point in a way is also shifting the cjp would also not
31:30want legal
31:31action to be initiated against uh these students sonam bangsook does not want that happen either and
31:36the opposition is also asking for the same but if you uh go on to the press conference of rahul
31:42gandhi
31:42which happened uh you know sometime back only again you know showing through those visuals trying to
31:47establish as to what unfolded in the national capital on 20th of july and uh again the congress
31:53party wants a probe against the delhi police officials uh but again the question would be
31:59what happens to the uh police officials who were injured uh during the handling of the protest as
32:05well so that is also a question because delhi police uh is certainly making uh you know claims
32:12and they have also shared their visuals of their personal getting uh you know hurt during the handling
32:16of the protest their vehicles being uh targeted so that is also one aspect of uh 20th july
32:23uh you know episode and uh the movement that we saw unfold in the national capital around the
32:29parliament uh itself uh so it's interesting as to how opposition re-strategizes themselves uh as
32:36far as the parliamentary proceedings understanding then amit thanks so much for joining us let me cut
32:40across live now to jantar mantar uh where i i have my colleague uh
32:48sushant sushant uh i have my colleague sushant joining us sushant mehra joining us from jantar
32:54mantar uh sushant kya ham a sense de sakte ki jantar mantar mein sami kya chal raha hai sonam vangchuk
33:01nne dousri bar ek dapani demands ka letter rakhha hai tien dhin mein au dousri bar unhoney resignation
33:07iddam saaf torpe dharmedra pradhan ka nahi maanga hai jabki youth protesters ki cjp ki demand
33:14rahi hai ki pahle resignation ai to is per kya aap cjp se baat kar pahe hai young logo ka
33:21protesters ka kya
33:30kehna hai hello hello sushant if you can hear me
33:39all right understandably ajantar mantar there are jammers and the line is not very good so we'll try
33:45and connect with sushant in a bit from now but let me give you a quick recap into how the
33:52past
33:52couple of days for sonam vangchuk have been now remember today is day 25 of his past and he's
33:59still firm about continuing it but what exactly is his health condition let me tell you about that
34:04a panel of doctors is monitoring him this is in accordance to what the high court had asked for
34:10fresh blood work had been ordered yesterday reports for which will be expected anytime now
34:16and if they come back well sonam vangchuk he's currently in icu number eight at medanta medicity
34:24in gurugram will be moved i am told to a private ward by today evening now what are doctors really
34:32watching out for doctors are at the moment watching out closely at his potassium levels at
34:37his sodium levels as well these numbers will decide which way his health actually turns so what happens
34:44for you to get an understanding of when your body gets no food for 25 days okay first it burns
34:53the
34:53stored sugar then it turns to fat burns that but the brain still needs glucose so the body starts
35:01breaking down muscle to make it which is why prolonged fasting causes muscle loss not just weight loss
35:08and in an extreme condition this can be extremely dangerous even life threatening alongside this
35:16electrolytes fall sodium and potassium controls the heartbeat remember and your nervous system a sharp
35:22drop in potassium can trigger irregular heartbeats one of the biggest risks in long-term hunger strikes
35:30which is why fluid intake becomes extremely important iv becomes very important as well but for now in a
35:38medical bulletin that came just about half an hour ago today from medanta we are told that vangchuk
35:45remains to be under watch remains to be stable remains alert he's talking and the one of the doctors
35:53who's actually visiting him told me that he seems to be in good spirits and even they are surprised at
35:59how a

36:24visitors
36:25two union ministers came to see him it was jp nadda and jitendra singh remember jp nadda the man who's
36:32been
36:32engaging with the youth and jitendra singh the man responsible and designated by the government to engage
36:38with the opposition after having spoken to both those fronts they actually went and met vangchuk in
36:44response sonam vangchuk has now released the letter of appeal as well he has heightened his demand and in fact
36:51gone on to say that he wants those cases which have been put against the student protesters to be taken
36:58away and a consideration of resignation of dhandarend pradhan along with the you know a promise to work
37:06on it will make him break his fast but nothing less but as we talk about this there is a
37:14possible
37:14breakthrough that may finally be emerging in the standoff between government and the cjp over the
