President Marcos emphasized the importance of reaffirming ties with the United States during his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, especially in these "interesting times."

Marcos welcomed Rubio at Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, July 22, during the latter's courtesy call.

During theire meeting, Rubio underscored that in light of the recent events, the deep ties between Manila and Washington is "more important than ever."

00:32Good afternoon, Mr. Secretary, and may I once again welcome you to the Malacanang Palace
00:41and to Manila.
00:42We know as your very, very busy schedule and all the important work that you are doing
00:47that you have found the time to visit with us, especially as, well, since the Philippines
00:56now holds the chair for ASEAN, and there really are a great many issues that have to be dealt
01:05with, and I'm glad that you have had this opportunity to at least engage and have some
01:13exchanges with the other foreign secretaries, with other foreign ministers, especially coming
01:19out of ASEAN.
01:19But I'm very glad, as I mentioned to you, we watched the news, and we are surprised that
01:26you are still able to find time to visit with us.
01:29We are.
01:30It's a great pleasure and an honor.
01:32Thank you very much for this visit.
01:35Well, thank you for welcoming me, first of all.
01:37I want to congratulate you on a great job in hosting this conference, which, in addition
01:41to being so critically important for the region, provides us the opportunity to interact with
01:45so many countries.
01:46It's also important to be here, I think, just three weeks into our new ambassador here,
01:50who I know is going to do a great job.
01:52And, Mr. President, thank you for welcoming us.
01:54And, obviously, in addition to visiting here for the conference we wanted to visit with
01:57you, you know how much the President holds you in high esteem.
02:00We had a very positive meeting last year in Washington.
02:04And then this is a country that has deep ties to the United States for many, many years.
02:08And it's a partnership that is only growing, and in light of recent events, I think more
02:13important than ever, and so we're glad to be with you here today and to reaffirm that relationship
02:18and our commitment to the U.S.-Philippines relationship.
