00:00If you're planning on visiting Punta Cana anytime soon and you're not sure what to expect or what to
00:05bring, this video is for you. So I just went on the most beautiful vacation with my boyfriend
00:10and although this was our fourth time visiting together, so much has changed since the last
00:14time that we traveled there. So I'm going to share seven essential travel tips that you should know
00:18before visiting Punta Cana that will make your vacation so much easier. First things first,
00:24bring water shoes. This might come as a surprise considering most beaches in Punta Cana are very
00:29sandy and smooth. However, this is especially important in case you book an excursion. So we
00:35decided to do skate park. I'll talk a little bit more about that later on in the video. When we
00:39got
00:40there, the water shoes were $27 each USD and they were mandatory for a lot of the activities there
00:46and luckily I had watched a video before doing this excursion and it said to bring water shoes. So
00:52before we left Toronto, we went to the dollar store and we got two pairs that were $3.50 each
00:57Canadian
00:58and to put that into perspective, if we had gotten them at skate park, we would have spent $70,
01:03which is just crazy to me. So save yourself the time and stress and just get them before you leave
01:08wherever you're from. It'll be much cheaper and I would honestly recommend them for nature checks as
01:14well. Even if you're not going to get wet, they're very comfortable and durable to wear throughout the
01:18day. If they do get wet, they dry very fast and they're just nice to have. Which brings me to
01:23my next
01:23tip. If you are going to book an excursion, book with the people in your resort lobby. That's the
01:28safest, best way to do it. So when you get to the beach, there are so many people selling these
01:34excursions
01:35for like 50% off than what your resort is selling them for and as enticing as it is, do
01:41not do it. What
01:42happened to us recently is a guy approached us and offered us the Sona Island excursion, which is
01:48around $150 for $60. So it was 50% off. We obviously didn't have the money on us because
01:54we were tanning and he told us to just pay him tomorrow and that the bus was going to be
01:58there
01:58at 7am. So we woke up 6am, literally rushed to the lobby, had a full bag packed to go to
02:05Sona Island.
02:06720 came, then 730, then 740. I finally looked at Chris and I was like, okay, is this guy ever
02:13going
02:13to show up? Like what's going on here? So he had him on WhatsApp. He messaged him. Long story short,
02:18the guy just said that he didn't have the capacity to pick us up today and the bus just never
02:22showed
02:23up. So thank goodness we didn't pay. And while all this was happening, one of the representatives
02:29from the resort that books the excursions came and talked to us. He pretty much said that this is a
02:34very common scam and that they do get people to pay usually and then they just don't show up. So
02:39luckily through him, we were able to do scape park. It was all so last minute and I would highly
02:45recommend that excursion. It is expensive, but it's worth it. But the main thing here is to just
02:50not trust the people on the beach. They have nothing to lose. Like if they disappear, then what?
02:56Right? At least if the people on the resort, you know, take your money, there's someone to hold
03:00accountable. So better safe than sorry, book with the people on the resort because you could possibly
03:05lose a full day of your vacation and your money, which would suck. Another thing to keep in mind,
03:10which is very new to my understanding is that resort pools close at 7pm. So when we got to
03:16our resort and our pool was closed, as soon as it was starting to get dark out, we were very
03:21annoyed.
03:21We went and talked to the front desk staff and they told us that this is like a widespread thing
03:26that's happening across Punta Cana to most resorts. And I'm not really sure why, but my guess
03:31is that it's for safety purposes because I'm sure a lot of like crazy drunk people go swimming in there
03:36at night. It also probably helps them keep things clean because they can probably clean everything
03:40up in the evening and then have it nice in the morning. So I'm all for that, but keep that
03:45in
03:45mind because if you are someone that likes to go for night swims, you might not be able to.
03:49My next tip is to bring waterproof sunscreen. So you will thank me later for this because the first
03:55time that I went to Punta Cana, I just used regular sunscreen. I got sober and it ruined like three
04:01days of my vacation. I was dry. I was crispy. I was irritable. I was so sick and feverish. Honestly,
04:07it's just not worth it. Bring yourself a good bottle of waterproof sunscreen. And I would strongly
04:13advise you to put it on in the morning when you wake up while you're getting ready, because if you
04:18put it on and go outside right away, the sun is so strong that you'll literally sweat it off and
04:22get
04:22burnt anyway. So I would allow about 30 minutes for the sunscreen to actually absorb in your skin to
04:29work. Sunscreen is also one of those things there that is super expensive. So if you're going for a
04:34week, I would say one bottle is more than enough, which brings me to my next tip. Bring a good
04:40insulated reusable water bottle. So this saved my life so many times. Like I said, it's super hot there.
04:47And although you can find water literally anywhere on your resort, the ice melts really fast and the
04:52cups are really small. So you're going to have to do lots of refills while the ice is melting. And
04:57it's
04:57just easier to keep a nice water bottle beside you. So what I would do is every morning, I would
05:03go
05:03fill my water bottle with a bunch of ice, some water, and I would just carry it around with me
05:07all day. And we loved walking down the beach. And once you kind of leave your resort, there's nowhere
05:13that you can stop for water. So this is when it becomes really important to have that on you
05:18because it's super hot. And although the water is like nice and cooling to jump in, you're going to
05:23get super thirsty from walking any long distance there. So a reusable water bottle is really
05:29important. And it's also good because if you do do any drinks at night, you can go get that filled
05:35up
05:35and then you don't have to do a long line at the bar again. My next tip is that tipping
05:41is a must. It's
05:42technically optional, but I would highly recommend it for two reasons. One, it really helps the resort
05:48staff out. And two, it really improves the quality of service that you get. So in regards to helping
05:54the resort staff, they earn a base wage based on their position. And a lot of the times it's not
05:59that high. The tips are really the way that they get paid. And even just leaving a dollar at dinner
06:05makes a huge difference for them. Also at the restaurant, we noticed that our water was being
06:10refilled frequently. Our table was consistently cleaned. And these are all things that can improve
06:15the quality of your vacation. So I would say bring a lot of ones with you. That's essential. And it'll
06:21ensure that that staff member is paid for their service and that you actually get good service at
06:26the end of the day. And my final tip is to be nice to the resort staff. Yes, you are
06:32on vacation paying
06:33them for a level of service, but you are also a guest in their country. And it's really important to
06:38treat these people as human beings. Saying please and thank you goes a long way. Not expecting them to
06:44clean up after you. Doing things whenever you can do them yourself, by yourself. Like for us, there was
06:49an orange juice machine at our buffet. And whenever I wanted a refill, I would get up, fill it myself,
06:54and come sit back down. You know, it's nice to have that luxury type mentality of lay back and do
07:00nothing. But also remember these people are also people and they go home to situations that I'm sure
07:06a lot of us wouldn't even be able to imagine. So I would say just keep that in mind. Have
07:12a great
07:12time. Punta Cana is a beautiful place. The ocean is beautiful. The people are so nice. The beaches are
07:18nice. There's always so much to do. But before I end the video, I'm going to share a few things
07:23that you
07:23should keep in mind. So a few things to keep in mind that aren't necessarily essential. However, they would
07:29have really helped us on our vacation. First thing is to bring a pair of dry clothes with you on
07:34any excursion
07:35that you do that involves water. When you are on your way back, the car is so air conditioned and
07:40you're
07:41going to get in and feel so cold in your bathing suit. It's happened to me so many times. So
07:45now I
07:46always bring a dry outfit with me and a towel just so when I'm on my way home, because sometimes
07:52the
07:52drives are like 30 to 40 minutes, you can just like wrap yourself up and stay nice and cozy. Your
07:57resort
07:57also might have stray cats. Honestly, be nice to them because they are there to help with pests. So things
08:04like mice and rats. And that's why a lot of resorts don't like shoo them off. It's because they are
08:09really good hunters. So be nice to them. A lot of them are like really cute and affectionate. I had
08:15so much fun interacting with the cats in Punta Cana. They were so cute. Be nice to them. They are
08:20technically resort staff too. And my last tip is to bring more clothes than you need. So for me,
08:26I was doing like three outfit changes a day. And this is perfectly normal because when you wake up,
08:32you go to the beach, you shower, then you get changed. Then you go to the buffet, you get changed,
08:36you go to the beach again, then you might get changed to go out at night, you're going to be
08:39wearing so many outfits and you want to make sure that you have new like stuff that makes you feel
08:44good. So for me, I brought lots of summer dresses, mini skirts, bathing suits, all kinds of bikinis
08:51pack more than what you think you need. If you look at your suitcase and you're like, when am I
08:55going to
08:55wear all these clothes? That's when you're on the right track, because that's how I was feeling.
09:00And now I wore like every single outfit while I was there. All right, guys, that's the end of
09:06today's video. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you found it useful. If you are planning a trip to
09:10Punta Cana, I would love to know where you're visiting. So feel free to let me know in the
09:14comments. Also like comment and subscribe, help your girl get that engagement up. I post a new video
09:20every single week. So I will see you then.
