03:17same for all of you right now but here's the big question how does a phone actually recognize your face
03:25why is Apple's face ID considered different from the face lock found on many other Android devices and as more
03:33companies being starting to use facial recognition how much control do we really have over our own faces today on
03:42the tech today show we are decoding the tech that's quietly changing how we prove who we are
03:47we really are where it all is used and how safe it actually is to share your facial data in
03:54today's world of artificial intelligence
03:58imagine meeting someone for the first time you don't memorize every single detail
04:03instead your brain notices key features the distance between the eyes the shape of the nose the jawline and the
04:12cheekbones
04:12modern facial recognition works in a surprisingly similar way instead of storing a photograph
04:19most modern systems convert your face into a complex mathematical representation often called face embedding
04:26which captures distinguishing facial features
04:33when you unlock your phone the system compares a newly captured face embedding with the one stored during enrollment
04:40to determine whether they match
04:43today's systems use deep neural networks trained on millions of facial images to improve recognition accuracy
04:51all right get this not every device recognizes your face the same way
04:56some devices record a 2d image while others actually build a three-dimensional map of your face and that makes
05:05a huge difference
05:07something that you might not even get to know
05:09when apple introduced face ID in 2017 it redefined biometric recognition
05:15face ID is possible through dedicated hardware called the true depth camera
05:22this system projects over 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto your face creating a detailed depth map
05:29combined with an infrared camera and machine learning face ID can recognize you even in the dark
05:36and is designed to resist spoofing attempts using ordinary photographs
05:42apple says the facial data is encrypted and stored only inside the device's secure enclave
05:48and the mathematical representation never leaves the iPhone or face ID authentication
05:53it's one of the reasons many facial apps also use face ID for authentication
05:58it's that secure however many Android phones particularly budget and older models use a simpler approach
06:06they rely mainly on the front-facing RGB camera to compare a two-dimensional image of your face
06:13while this is convenient camera only systems generally provide a lower level of security because they lack true depth information
06:23that said not all Android phones are the same devices like Google's pixel 8 and 9 series also use infrared
06:30assisted hardware
06:31for secure face authentication while some premium phones from other manufacturers incorporate additional sensors
06:38the key distinction isn't iPhone versus Android it's 3d hardware based authentication versus camera only face unlock
06:48all right so today facial recognition is just everywhere banks use it for facial recognition
06:55during digital KYC to verify that the person who's opening the account actually matches their official identity documents
07:01many officers today use it for attendance systems and in India one of the biggest examples is
07:12the platform allows passengers at participating airports to use facial recognition instead of repeatedly showing boring passes and identity documents
07:22according to the Digi Yatra Foundation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation
07:26participation is voluntary and the system is designed so that passengers biometric credentials are stored on their own device
07:34with temporary verification data deleted after the journey privacy groups however have called for greater transparency
07:43stronger oversight and continued scrutiny of how biometric systems are governed the debate therefore isn't simply about the technology itself
07:53but about trust consent and accountability all right so there is absolutely no doubt that the tech is impressive
08:03and it makes life much easier and simpler for all of us however you also need to understand the risks
08:10of something like this
08:12one of the biggest concerns isn't unlocking your own phone it's what happens when companies collect millions and millions of
08:20these face images
08:22probably could be for data training
08:26perhaps the best-known example is Clearview AI a US-based company that built a facial recognition database by scraping
08:34billions of publicly available images from websites and social media without asking most individuals for permission
08:43the company has faced a lawsuit regulatory action and fines in several countries over its practices
08:50another concern is security unlike a password you can change a pin if it's compromised
08:57but you can't change your face that's why cyber security experts recommend systems that keep biometric templates encrypted and stored
09:07locally whenever possible
09:11so should you really trust facial recognition technology how safe is the tech on your phone
09:17well the answer to this isn't a simple yes or a no facial recognition isn't inherently unsafe
09:24in fact when implemented properly with dedicated hardware encrypted on device storage and strong anti-spoofing protections
09:33it can be both secure and convenient at the same time
09:37the bigger question is whether the organization asking for your face data is transparent about what it collects
09:45why it collects it and how long it keeps it and whether you can opt out of the system
09:54before agreeing to a face scan it is worth asking
09:58who stores my biometric data is it kept on my device or on a server how long will it be
10:04retained and can I delete it
10:08those answers matter far more than the technology alone
10:15I've been visiting airports for such a long time and I've been absolutely shocked knowing that many people are unaware
10:20that
10:21DG Yatra as a service is not compulsory and it's not the government that stores your face data
10:26it's a private firm and that's why you need to be aware of what's happening with your data
10:32and yes I understand it is right now convenient
10:36today it unlocks your phones opens airport gates verifies our identity and is increasingly becoming the key to our digital
10:44lives
10:44and facial recognition isn't just going away anytime soon
10:47but the bigger challenge is making sure we know who gets access to our face data
10:52how they are using it and under what rules because there need to be guardrails
10:56because just like you won't hand your ID card to a random stranger
11:00the same should be the case for your face data
11:10for many years buying a motorcycle meant asking three key questions
11:14how powerful it is what kind of mileage does it give and how much does it cost
11:19but that conversation is now changing
11:24with Delhi's proposed EV policy aiming to stop registration for new petrol power 2 and 3 wheelers from 2028
11:31electric motorcycles are no longer just an alternative
11:34for many riders they will soon become the default choice
11:39so that's the future and today on the Tech Today show
11:41we are giving you a glimpse of that future with one of India's most tech loaded bike
11:47this is the ultraviolet X 47
12:02If you've seen the X 47 for the first time it deceptively looks like a super adventure bike
12:08tall stance, futuristic body work and sharp lighting
12:12but the biggest story here isn't the design
12:15it's the amount of computing power and sensor technology hiding beneath those panels
12:21unlike most motorcycles that rely almost entirely on rider awareness
12:26the X 47 is trying to become an active partner during your ride
12:33it's a great thing that modern cars come with a tech to prevent accidents
12:38especially when other vehicles are coming close to them especially from behind
12:41so I thought why not we add that tech into EV bikes
12:45and the crossover comes with exactly something like this
12:48this one has radar behind it because if any vehicle is charging at you from the rear
12:53this one can detect it and warn you
12:56the radar has a claimed range of nearly 200 meters
13:00with a wide field of view that allows you to monitor approaching traffic
13:04and vehicles sitting in your blind spot
13:06and when it detects something important
13:09it immediately alerts the rider through the TFT display
13:12as well as the illuminated indicators near the mirrors
13:16if a vehicle is approaching rapidly from behind
13:19the bike can even trigger additional warning alerts
13:22giving you precious extra seconds to react
13:25considering the way some people drive in India
13:28this could be a life saving feature
13:35Alright, so talking about the X 47 crossover
13:39it's a very futuristic looking bike right
13:41like almost like a super sport adventure motorcycle over here
13:46but it's just not about the design of this motorcycle
13:48it's what's inside of it
13:49the software, the mechanics, everything
13:51that makes the X 47 just stand apart
13:54from all of the conventional bikes
13:56and that's exactly what you're paying for, right?
14:01The X 47 comes equipped with dual integrated cameras
14:05one facing forward
14:06and the other watches what's happening behind you
14:09both record in full HD at 1080p
14:12and together create an always on dash cam system
14:15the footage is stored directly on the bike
14:18with expandable storage support
14:20going all the way up to 256 GB
14:23Now it doesn't really matter how many cameras
14:25or sensors you might be putting into your EV
14:28unless the software is efficient
14:30and I feel in that department
14:32electric vehicles definitely have an advantage
14:34The X 47 features a connected platform

14:39allowing you to stay connected
14:41even when your phone isn't nearby
14:43using the ultraviolet app
14:45riders can monitor battery status
14:47track the motorcycle's location
14:49analyze ride statistics
14:51and receive security alerts
14:53think of it as a find my feature
14:55on your smartphone
14:57but this time for your bike
14:59and because the bike is software driven
15:01many of its features can continue evolving
15:04through over the air updates
15:06that's something we've become used to
15:08on smartphones and increasingly on electric cars
15:12Now it's making its way onto motorcycles
15:16The digital experience continues on the bike itself
15:20with a large 5-inch TFT display
15:22that brings together navigation, ride information, safety alerts
15:27and connectivity into one clean interface
15:30The X 47 is available in two battery options
15:34A 7.1 kilowatt hour pack
15:37delivering a claimed range of up to 210 kilometers
15:40and a larger 10.3 kilowatt hour battery
15:43which we are testing
15:45capable of traveling up to 323 kilometers
15:49under IDC testing
15:51The top version outputs 30 kilowatt of peak power
15:55producing enough performance to sprint from 0 to 60
15:58in just under 3 seconds
16:00and top speed
16:02a claimed 145 kilometers per hour
16:08But unlike traditional motorcycles
16:10when performance often comes high up in the rev range
16:13electric bikes deliver maximum torque
16:16almost instantly
16:19Ultraviolet has also equipped the bike with multiple riding modes
16:22traction control
16:23switchable dual-channel ABS
16:25and dynamic stability systems
16:28that constantly work in the background
16:30to maximize grip
16:31all customizable through the app
16:35Again, this is software enhancing the riding experience
16:40not just hardware doing the work
16:42The X 47 starts at 2.5 lakh x showroom
16:46and for many that could be a stretch
16:49but then there aren't many options in India
16:52that offer the adventure bike aesthetic in an electric avatar
16:56So this was a glimpse of the future
16:59the X 47
17:00and I am guaranteeing you
17:02that the future of mobility
17:04is just not going to be driven by fossil fuel
17:05it's also going to be driven by software
17:09by the mechanics that you saw on this one

18:01because one company just started actually shipping robots to real homes
18:07Not a concept or a prototype but finished products
18:11and the internet, well it has opinions
18:13So today, what is really inside a home robot?
18:17What it can actually do
18:19and will you be able to get one for yourself soon?
18:23Everything on the show
18:26Here's the old picture of a robot
18:28A flat disc bumping into your couch leg
18:31or a 200 kilo steel arm bolted to a factory floor
18:36Fine machines but neither one was ever walking into your kitchen
18:42That's changing
18:43The humanoid robotics market is small right now
18:46a few billion dollars
18:47but analysts like Goldman Sachs
18:49put it nearly 40 billion within a decade
18:53and a growing slice of that is aimed at homes
18:56not warehouses
18:57The design brief flipped with it
19:00It's no longer how strong can we build this?
19:04It's how safe is this next to a toddler?
19:11But here's the thing
19:12That question is reshaping this entire industry
19:15Tesla is chasing it right now
19:17so are companies like Figure in the US
19:19and Unitary in China
19:21The playbook looks exactly the same everywhere
19:24Foam bodies instead of exposed steel
19:27joints sealed so nothing can pinch a finger
19:30and really quiet to sit in your living room
19:34without you noticing it
19:35One company is right now ahead of the pack
19:38on getting this into your home
19:40and that is One X with its robot called Neo

21:04Are these sessions recorded?
21:06Can you switch it off entirely?
21:08Because I have seen too many movies to know that
21:11you can't trust machines
21:13Now think about it
21:15Sit with it for a second
21:16We've all seen these polished demos
21:19in reels
21:20and you know these advertisements
21:21right?
21:22The spotless labs
21:23perfect lighting
21:24nothing goes wrong
21:25when these robots are being demoed
21:26Real homes are not like that
21:29What happens when the floor is wet?
21:32Or when a kid just bolts across the kitchen
21:35while the robot is holding maybe a glass
21:37How does a machine actually learn to be gentle in those situations?
21:42Some of that comes down to the hardware
21:45and how the AI inside is trained
21:48Let's get into how the hands and the arms of the robot actually work
21:52and where the marketing is still ahead
21:55of any independent testing right now
21:59Old industrial robots run on rigid, gear-driven joints
22:03which are powerful but blind to touch
22:07Hit an obstacle
22:08and the arm just pushes straight through it
22:12Here's a good example of that in action
22:15Watch Xiaomi's Humanoid on its production line
22:18Sorting center console covers hour after hour
22:21That's what rigid and repetitive looks like when it's done right
22:25However, Neo works differently

23:20No verified grip force numbers
23:22No confirmed failure rates across thousands of real unscripted grips
23:27That's still an open question
23:30And one worth watching as actual units land in actual homes
23:38But try imagining this
23:40What happens when Neo hits a task it has never learnt or has been trained for?
23:45That's the remote operator system again
23:48A human often with a VR headset
23:51Physically guides the robot's hands through the operations
23:54And it all happens live
23:58Every one of those sessions becomes training data
24:01A technique called imitation learning
24:03And most of the serious players in the space are betting on it
24:07One X's own CEO has said
24:09He hopes to ship something mostly fully autonomous this year
24:14However, that's a hope, not a guarantee
24:18Independent estimates in the industry put Neo at somewhere around 60-70% autonomous today
24:23Climbing towards the 90s over the next couple of years
24:26Assuming the learning curve holds
24:29Worth tracking, not banking on
24:34All right, so home humanoids are finally leaving trade show floors and also demo zones
24:40And early units are generally expected in homes by the end of the year
24:44And like pretty much every first-generation hardware launch ever in history
24:48Expect that timeline to slip a little bit
24:51The Neo is priced at around $20,000
24:54That's roughly 19 lakh rupees at current rates
24:57Or could be a monthly subscription that One X hasn't priced publicly yet
25:01Now, whether or not any of this reaches India is completely unconfirmed right now
25:07And understand that this is early adopter territory, not mainstream
25:11But that's what we said about flat-screen TVs and first-home computers before, right?
25:17So, could change
25:18Now, whether Neo turns out to be the real bridge between AI and our physical lives
25:23Or could just be this decade's most expensive gadget is still finding its footing
25:29And all of this, by the way, comes down to just one thing
25:33How something like this holds up in reality
25:36Messy homes and not just demo zones and advertisements
25:44For years, we have imagined the future as something we would experience someday
25:50I'm still waiting for that time
