00:06Hi my name is Mike Enright, I'm the owner of the Barbershop down in Barangaroo.
00:11With the Barbershop Barangaroo I wanted to create a men's shop.
00:16I wanted men to be able to come down, get their hair cut or have a shave or beard trim,
00:21relax in the environment, read some of our beautiful books that we've selected.
00:26My name is Jacob Martin and I'm manager at the Barangaroo Barbershop.
00:31It sort of goes in cycles with hair trends.
00:34Instagram is huge, so a lot of guys are coming in now and with the boom of the male grooming
00:41industry
00:41you're getting a lot of guys that are seeing barbers from all over the world
00:45and that's what they're showing us rather than celebrities.
00:48You know you've got awesome colognes, we've got leather wear from Elk
00:53and we've got lots of hair creams and that kind of thing.
00:56We really wanted to create an atmosphere that was welcoming.
01:00We've got a little bar in the corner where you can have drinks,
01:03beautiful glassware, awesome ice to go in the drink and premium spirits as such
01:08and also bottled cocktails.
01:11So it was overall to create a bar atmosphere within a barbers.
01:18At the moment we're seeing a lot of skin fades and that's real skin fades.
01:23That's going below zero, so with the foils.
01:27That's probably the biggest trend we're seeing at the moment.
01:30When we were designing the barbershop I wanted to go with three themes.
01:35One was vintage sport, one was vintage motor and the other one was hunting.
01:40We trolled all the vintage shops around New South Wales for weeks on end.
01:44After we got all these images and that kind of thing we had to go to the frame
01:47and sit down with the architect to try and finalise the overall look and feel.
01:53The barbers chairs themselves, they're from probably about the 1960s, 70s.
01:58How important is a haircut? It's super important, it's the first thing that people see.
02:03It makes a first impression, your hair really defines you as a person.
02:08Have some ideas of what you're looking for, what you're trying to achieve.
02:12Whether that's Instagram, magazines or something like that.
02:15Give your barber like actual physical sort of imagery so that they can work with that
02:20and sort of tell you if it's going to work or if it's not going to work.
02:24I want them to be able to walk away from here and have the best experience that they've had.
02:30That's kind of how I measure success.
02:40Lovely, lovely job.
02:41Thank you, everybody.
02:42Thank you for listening.
02:42Bye, buddy.
02:46Bye, bye.
