01:08history there's been a lot of great steve steve's a great football name i love it name steve literally
01:15translates to crown or garland basically means winner most often an athletic event if you want
01:23your son to be successful in the nfl got your moniker right there steve bono don't show him in
01:30the compilation he didn't do anything he's the best he's the best being a steve means more than just
01:38honoring the name your parents gave you it's one of those names that carries more than just a name
01:45it's it's a whole lifestyle the state of mind of steveness is doing a difficult thing and doing it
01:51gracefully and making it look effortless that's what makes steve sable such a steve is that he took

06:38playing football and going to the movies but that makes you uniquely qualified for this profession
06:45with that phone call a football life was born living up to his namesake sable was a steve of
06:53all trades he was a fearless cameraman an excellent editor and maybe the best writer nfl films has
07:01ever seen it starts with a whistle and ends with a gun 60 minutes of close inaction from kickoff to
07:10touchdown nfl films had all this drama and the slow motion and the music and the narration and
07:16that's all steve sable in his 50-year career steve sable produced almost as many hits as our number
07:23nine steve atwater hall of famer he's not high enough on the list maybe
07:31the number nine football steve steve atwater today the nfl's premier hitter in the secondary
07:39is denver's steve atwater he has superb physical tools but his job isn't construction
07:47destruction it's destruction atwater was that guy was scared smart and asshole every chance you get

09:52the hit on okoye has to be the number one steve atwater moment i mean christian okoye uh
09:58that was a big boy everybody asked me who's who's the hardest guy you ever hit
10:02and running back in the description okoye boy he is too big and too fast to be playing running back

13:43teams player in nfl history really means something so i think steve tasker is very steve

17:28what else would i want to come home to my home state with a team that's on the rise
17:35the lions fans were thrilled when they hired steve mariucci because he was a coach with a winning
17:40pedigree everything seemed to fit with steve mariucci as the head coach of the lions
17:44we got one more game first mistake draft bus to draft bus connection
17:50harrington and rogers you're not going to win many games
17:54but even a steve couldn't turn around a lowly lion
18:00i think the lions have no talent and no steve under any name was going to be successful in detroit

19:23steve mcmichael no doubt steve mcmichael played the inside he set the tone growing up a bears fan
19:31the c76 on the defensive line um you know what a force the guy was a beast enough texan steve
19:38mcmichael
19:39was one of only two defenders to start every game and was second in sacks and tackles steve
19:45mcmichael since it's a celtic name you'd think of as a big tough guy who is not afraid to speak

19:52mind but would get the job done that whole defense was founded on tenacity and just brute physicality
19:59and steve mcmichael was all of that it is stefan douglas mcmichael ph i'm the one that shorted it to

20:22nickname early in my career the movie blazing saddles came out and that character alex caris
20:29played mongo that's kind of the guy was in football practice there was the feeling that
20:37they could have put steve mcmichael in blazing saddles instead of alex caris and it would have worked
20:43just as well our number six steve left quite an impression on another member of the fraternity
20:52of steves we had him on our team in green bay steve mcmichael was a packer if you can believe
20:58that
21:02and during practice one day i said hey what's with the hair oh man he didn't take too kind of
21:09that
21:09couple weeks later i'm walking around the corner going to my meeting and steve mcmichael ambushed me
21:15and bit my shoulder i had mcmichael dentures right in my skin that guy was one whacked out steve yeah
21:24i love
21:24that guy steve mcmichael played in the nfl and wrestled in the wcw he even ran for mayor
21:35but in the end he's just a guy named steve if god were to carve a steve out of granite
21:42he'd look
21:42like steve mcmichael steve mcmichael on the hip my dick actually said that steve mcmichael was the
21:50toughest player that he's ever coached so when coach is giving you those kind of accolades
21:56bow down bow down to steve mcmichael yeah he coached a lot of tough players i can't believe
22:02he said mcmichael was tougher than like a mike singletary or a walter bayton
22:12steve mcmichael absolutely brings honor to football players named steve i have brought
22:18honor to myself it just so happens i'm named steve

22:31think he should be ahead of steve mcnair at four
22:36he doesn't seem like a steve to me they know my name for a reason steve is understated
22:41if you see this face that means i score a steve is humble
22:50a steve doesn't draw attention to himself with end zone celebrations

23:10the guy that i idolized the dude is a warrior he's a beast man he's everything that that i would

23:19if steve's epitomized cool should we make room for one of the nfl's most notorious hot dogs
23:26he should be on this list because for what he did with his size and coming out of utah
23:32steve smith has been one of the great overachievers really in the history of the nfl
23:36one guy is not going to stop this three time old pro and triple crown receiver with
23:44jake the loan as his quarterback
23:48steve smith steve smith steve smith is incredible that to me is what a steve does you have to admire
23:54the guy winning the triple crown in 2005 for receiving yards touchdowns and completions
24:06would you say it's an accurate description of your play if someone said well you know steve smith he
24:12plays with a chip on the shoulder i don't play with a chip on my shoulder you play with a

24:17on your shoulder no i don't know why they don't like i mean i i just make plays that's all

24:24know why they don't like every time he makes a catch he gets up and brushes himself off and struts
24:30around and jaws as if he's just proven legions of doubters wrong even if it's a seven yard slant he's

24:36game but you gotta love his energy and his emotions big plays by big players and big games

24:51i've always had a soft spot in my heart for steve smith since uh following the vikings unfortunate
24:58love boat incident he uh caught a touchdown pass against the vikings and then rode his boat the
25:03end zone in carolina and i i think that's maybe the most hilarious moment in the history of the nmv
25:08that is on steve like you expect steve to just hand the ball back to the ref but he was

25:13of that did a lot of cool interesting touchdown celebrations go steve go steve art monk is the
25:20most steve receiver in that sense every time he got to the end zone he acted like he'd been there
25:25before and he was going to be there again since steve sable was a sucker for a showman we think

25:31thrilled to see the league's most flamboyant steve at number five in terms of my own eccentric
25:39definition of steveness he would be lower for being a showboater no offense steve smith you're
25:44a great player but come on what's with the showing off
25:50people underrate how good a playoff player steve smith was too

26:00one of the toughest most resolute on the field performers i've ever seen at quarterback
26:12now he's a steve the quarterback's name is steve mcnair that's like steve austin he's got like that
26:21name like he's a superhero big chest strong arm he can take a hit wow giving up his body showing
26:30that
26:30country strong again right there there typifies steve because
26:38gutty gritty play through injuries how many times does steve mcnair go out there less than 100
26:44steve mcnair who continues to play through injuries he played through bruised sternum broken ribs
26:51strained acl there's down holding his growing hand steve mcnair was a warrior ask any one of his
26:58teammates that is as steve as it gets the toughest man in football right there
27:07mcnair led the tennessee titans to super bowl 34 and was named league co-mvp in 2003 but what puts
27:15our number four steam near the zenith of steveness is his journey to the top he had to take a
27:22different
27:23route to greatness than than a lot of guys came from alcorn state historically black college with
27:29the third choice the houston oiler select quarterback from alcorn state steve mcnair there's a lot of
27:35questioning coming out of alcorn state of air mcnair and throwing the football at that level whether it
27:39was going to translate he was the highest drafted african-american quarterback at the time still at a
27:45time when african americans were struggling to establish themselves as quarterback the oiler
27:50players make no secret of their excitement about playing with mcnair again overcome he looked very
27:57quarterbacky nobody ever said oh steve mcdare never learned how to pass like he did about the guy who
28:05replaced him in tennessee vince young he he knew how to pass he could always pass
28:12irony is his coach jeff fisher wouldn't let him do it because they wanted to give the ball to
28:19eddie george 30 times a game coming odds overcoming obstacles that to me is very steve
28:34maybe one of the most heroic performances he ever had was in a loss to the rams in the super
28:39bowl
28:40came up one yard short steve mcnair's performance in the super bowl was as gritty as you'll ever see
28:48down 23 to 16 in the fourth quarter mcnair had just over two minutes to lead the titans to a
28:54game-time
28:55touchdown he just had the rams defenders just grasping at air trying to get him down and sack him
29:09whatever he needed to do to win he was going to will the titans to victory the clock ran out

29:16mcnair's super bowl dreams he died for the inside keeping him from cracking our top three steves of
29:24all time if you would have won that game of course you would have gone up the list steve mcnair

29:29nothing to be ashamed of he gave it at all steve mcnair will go down in history as not only
29:35one of the
29:35great steve but really one of the great gritty competitors the nfl has ever seen steve is the
29:41prototypical cool american male the man on his horse steve mcqueen was definitely the coolest and steve
29:48sable clearly channeled mcqueen's essence when in front of the camera okay i don't have any snot
29:53on my lip or anything like that he was very entertaining could have been could have been an
29:59actor he could have been one of those guys you know uh roll one steve sable they said i was
30:07mad so
30:09i came to work here in the basement of nfl fields
30:15the number three football steve steve van buren when you think of the name steve who's the first
30:23person that you think of i'm i'm sure i'm the only one that's going to answer it this way but
30:30the
30:30first one i think of is steve van buren yes ray you are but for good reason i don't think
30:36there's much
30:37question he's the greatest steve in the history of the eagles franchise and i really do think one of the
30:42great running backs in the history of the nfl i mean he was the key to a team that won
30:45back-to-back
30:46world championships and he retired as the all-time leading rusher in the history of the nfl that is
30:52van buren on another beautiful run and steven certainly having a sensational day today
30:58ninety percent of eagles fans now never saw steve van buren but everybody will tell you that steve van
31:04buren was the best steve he ever saw i don't know that how many people remember who steve van buren
31:09was but you asked me who steve and i would say steve van buren he's blazing a trail there
31:17i mean he was having 10 11 13 15 touchdowns in 10 to 12 game seasons that's who does that
31:32let me give you the ultimate steve moment in steve van buren's career he wakes up day the 1948 nfl
31:39title game and it's a blizzard of philadelphia when we set a snowstorm we really mean it steve van
31:45buren looks out his window that morning and sees the snow coming down and just figures well there's no
31:51way we're going to play today and he goes back to bed the coach creasy neal calls van buren i
31:57didn't
31:57think word got to him van buren had an inner steve moment where he's like maybe i should go down
32:02to
32:02the field anyway what does he do i had to catch three trolleys and walk about uh six blocks to
32:09the
32:11stadium luckily for the eagles our number three steve made it to shy park that day and scored the
32:17game's only touchdown in philly's seven and nothing victory with the championship riding on his
32:22shoulders steve van buren blast off right tackle for the game winning touchdown and the philadelphia
32:27eagles become the 1948 world champion the eagles win the game seven nothing he scores the one touchdown
32:33and after it's over retraces his snowy steps back to his home and you know that was steve
32:43van buren hasn't played an nfl game in over 60 years but his high steve quotient qualifies him as
32:50the number three steve of all time how old you think i am my man i might look 80 but
32:57i don't
32:57remember steve van buren i go back to the 60s steve van buren could be higher we forget about these
33:03guys
33:03of the past but that should not count against the guys who are pioneers of the game and guys like

33:08and he could not be any higher he's the highest he can go and he deserves it he was the

33:15player of the national football league in the 1940s father's given again to van buren there he goes
33:20folks 10 yards for the touchdown he's the first guy to have more than a thousand yards in a season

33:26at a time when it was only 12 games if you're looking at steve's in philadelphia history he's
33:32clearly got to be the best let's hear it for the greatest legal of them all steve van buren and
33:37one of
33:37the greatest nfl players of all time as a steve steve sable you're the best hey sable we love you
33:45no matter what team you root for mr sable was a legend and above all else this influential steve
33:53will be remembered for his legendary love of the game we wanted to just talk about superbowl
33:59i've been to everyone come on i hope we got that on camera thanks to you steve we got it

34:07including the hall of fame career of our number two football steve remember oh yeah you were the
34:13greatest at that yeah number two football steve steve largest after 14 seasons largent retires as the nfl's
34:24all-time leader in receptions receiving yardage and receiving touchdowns he's been a champion in
34:31the truest sense of the word steve largent put seattle on the map i mean he's he's just an unbelievable
34:38receiver steve largent ranked second on this list is uh very appropriate he's one of those guys that
34:43every uh every uh girl wants to marry and every guy wants to be like it yeah i would argue

34:49johnson put seattle on the map but uh steve larger help corn drops back to pass he's going for six

34:56the end zone the larger touchdown seahawks he's an epic wide receiver who's undersized never wears gloves
35:04that's very steve he then becomes a very successful politician afterwards
35:11i mean look let's face it he's the ultimate steve
35:16our number two steve put up prolific numbers now let's throw to the end zone there it is
35:21touchdown number 100 but he certainly didn't look the part he didn't say he looked like an accountant
35:28or something you go out there eat you up i think when you would watch a film you go really
35:32you can't
35:33cover this guy really and yet he was a great possession receiver he could beat you deep
35:38large and wide open at the 10 he's got it touchdown seahawks look his quarterbacks weren't that good so
35:45he had to do that and frankly it didn't matter how good you covered steve larger
35:53if he was able to stand he could probably catch it if it touched him
36:03he did more with less and that's very steve
36:09if i were defensive back this is one combination i wouldn't want to mess with
36:14jim zorn and steve largen of the seattle seahawks you know he and jim zorn made quite a team there

36:20seattle zorn drops back he cranks up he throws deep for large and up the left side and it's
36:26they would ride to practice together jim had this old i don't even know what year it was but it
36:32was
36:32an old yellow bug they arrived for work in a 1972 volkswagen the driver is jim zorn his accomplice
36:42steve largen steve largen and zorn maybe they weren't united some berry maybe they weren't montana
36:48and rice but they were an incredible combination that really didn't get the credit they deserved
