00:00A recent statement by a former UK Home Secretary has sparked a debate.
00:04She said that if Britain compensates its former colonies for slavery and colonialism,
00:08those nations should also repay Britain for its historical investments and infrastructure.
00:13Why did the Brits come to India?
00:14The way we want to tell it to our kids is, you know, they hated the brown men.
00:19So they came here to kick us around.
00:22They were inherently brutal and unjust.
00:24So they came here to insult us, violate us.
00:27They came to you just to take away your resources.
00:30That was the only objective.
00:32And when you could no longer provide them resources, they went back.
00:35That's it.
00:36That is a simple story.
00:37They never loved you.
00:39They never hated you either.
00:40You had resources.
00:41They wanted to consume those resources.
00:43Why does anybody want to consume resources?
00:45So that one can live in pleasure.
00:47That's all that they wanted.
00:48That's why they came here.
00:49That's what the entire process of colonialism is about.
00:53That's also what the world wars are about.
00:55Nothing more than that.
