00:04Pomp and ceremony to welcome Victoria Police's newest graduates and a Premier who's determined
00:10to be tough on crime. Attempts from her staff for the Chief Commissioner to be a backdrop for a
00:16press conference politely declined. The pair were together to announce a new regional police academy
00:21for Gippsland. Policing in their local communities is a really, really good way of keeping our
00:28community safe. While the Premier is trying to remain positive the government is dogged by
00:32allegations of corruption on big build sites. Mike Bush has been talking to the government
00:37about greater powers. They focus on unexplained wealth, more powers to track money, to intercept
00:46communications etc etc. We have a legislative program already before the parliament and we're
00:53in discussions with Victoria Police about further action that needs to be taken and I've got no
00:58further measures to announce today. A question about reports that sacked CFMEU officials are
01:03still wielding influence over the union, the Premier said it was a matter for the union's
01:06federal administrators. Her response is doing little to quell growing calls for a Royal Commission
01:11including from within Labor ranks. We need to give IBAC the powers it needs. We've always
01:19said a Royal Commission will cost millions and millions of dollars. We've had them before.
