00:00I want to take just a quick moment to address an incident that happened yesterday. You may have heard
00:04that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here in Studio 1A.
00:10Thankfully he was apprehended quickly. He was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully
00:15with the NYPD as they investigate the matter and we are just very happy that everyone is safe.
00:20Absolutely. Yes, of course. We want to make sure that you're safe.
00:23Safe and sound. Safe and sound at all times.
00:25Craig Melvin put on a brave face on the Today Show. He assured viewers he is safe and sound
00:31after a terrifying security breach on July 16th in which a crazed man looking for Al Roker
00:36allegedly slipped into a restricted area and confronted Melvin. Melvin and Roker have both
00:41been granted protective orders against the suspect. Melvin was joined at the desk Friday morning by
00:46Laura Jarrett who was sitting in for Savannah Guthrie and longtime co-host Carson Daly and Al Roker.
00:52Melvin initially addressed the matter on Thursday writing on Instagram,
00:56Hey everyone. I've heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I'm doing just fine. Thanks for
01:01reaching out. I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on Today. So what happened?
01:06The intruder slipped past security at 30 Rockefeller's center looking for weatherman Al Roker
01:11before asking for Melvin instead. Page Six hears he hurled a racial slur at him during the 8-10
01:17interaction before he was quickly apprehended. A source told us a security guard was fired over
01:23the incident. The intruder has been identified as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove. He has had several
01:28run-ins with the law with eight unsealed previous arrests in the city primarily for mischief
01:33according to the New York Post. Truelove was taken into custody and charged with burglary,
01:37menacing, and criminal trespass as hate crimes as well as harassment after Thursday's fiasco.
01:43NBC released a statement about how extremely seriously they take the safety and security
01:48of their employees, talent, staff, and guests. The network continued,
01:52Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. We are reviewing
01:57the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure
02:02environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios. Insiders told Page Six staffers are on
02:07edge after the scary scene unfolded, especially so soon after Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother,
02:13Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1st. She's been missing for over
02:19six months in a heart-wrenching case that has gripped the nation. Meanwhile, Savannah announced Thursday
02:25that she is stepping away from the Today Show for a few weeks to host a new primetime game show
