00:06So, I want to thank Johnny, this guy.
00:09He came to me with this crazy idea.
00:11I said, are you crazy?
00:13We're not a soccer country.
00:15It turned out we were a soccer country.
00:18And I think it's going to remain.
00:19But what he's done and what he thought of with a lot of your friends that I met today,
00:25they were very much involved in the decision.
00:28But I want to thank our great FIFA president, Johnny Infantino.
00:34There's nobody like him, actually.
00:35Very few.
00:36And the entire team at FIFA for their incredible work.
00:40I've met so many of them.
00:41I see why you were so successful.
00:43Because of the commitment and devotion of the people in this room, this beautiful room
00:48where the sound is very good, because you're going to hear a great opera singer in a couple
00:51of minutes.
00:52That's why I say, you know, Pavarotti was here.
00:54I was saying, years ago, he was here and he sang right in that corner.
00:59And he said to me something I never forgot, because it's luck.
01:02Sound is luck.
01:03Like talent, you're born with it.
01:05Sound is a little luck.
01:06He said, this is the greatest space.
01:09And he came and recorded either an album or a song.
01:13And we're going to hear somebody, you're going to hear somebody in a couple of minutes that's
01:17really good.
01:18But I did say to him, Christopher, are you as good as — he's an Italian man also.
01:24I don't know.
01:24It seems that being Italian is a big advantage in that business, right?
01:28If his name was Christopher Smith, it wouldn't work out as well.
01:32But I said, Christopher, are you as good as poverty?
01:35No, no, no.
01:36He was the maestro.
01:38He was the greatest of all time.
01:40There was nobody like.
01:41When you hear him, you'll understand.
01:42He's just as good.
01:44Now, I would have said, no, no, I'm better than Pavarotti if I were him.
01:48And therefore, I'm doing this instead of that.
01:52But you're going to hear somebody who's fantastic, really an acknowledged genius.
01:57But this has been the most successful sporting event, maybe in the history of the world.
02:02It's been amazing.
02:03So I want to congratulate everybody in this room, because you're very much into football.
02:07I'll say the word football.
02:08It gets a little confusing here, because we have the great Bob Craft.
02:11He's won six Super Bowls.
02:14Six Super Bowls.
02:16That's not — stand up, Bob.
02:17Will you please?
02:26And he also owns a soccer team, which is good, but hasn't been quite as good as the
02:30football.
02:30Do you agree?
02:31Not quite.
02:32And you're okay with that.
02:34He's okay with that, actually, in this country.
02:37Congratulations, Bob.
02:38Nice to have you.
02:39It's been my friend for a long time.
02:41But eight years ago, all the way back in 2018, it was my honor to help secure the World
02:47Cup for North America, and never thinking that it would turn out to be what it turned out
02:51to be.
02:52And Johnny said this would happen.
02:54But as fate would have it, I'm president.
02:57I said, you know, I was supposed to not be here right now.
03:00I was supposed to be president for eight years.
03:02The polls showed it.
03:03Everyone showed it.
03:04They rigged the election.
03:05And what did I get?
03:06I got the World Cup.
03:08I got the Olympics.
03:10And I brought them here.
03:11I tried to take credit for 250 years, but that didn't work out as well.
03:16I tried to say I created 250 years.
03:18That one didn't work.
03:19But I did get the Olympics.
03:20And we got this.
03:22And I don't know.
03:22This might be bigger than the Olympics.
03:24Tell me.
03:24Is it bigger?
03:25Much bigger.
03:25All right.
03:26I'll take his word for it.
03:27Much bigger.
03:27I'll take his word for it.
03:30I had a feeling he was going to say that.
03:33But, Gianni, I want to thank FIFA, Secretary General Matthias Grafstrom, as well as FIFA
03:42vice presidents and all of those vice presidents and council members, along with the presidents
03:47and general secretaries of FIFA member associations, along with some presidents of their countries.
03:53Of course, being a president of your country at this particular time isn't really as good
03:58as being the president of one of your associations.
04:01But you've done an amazing job.
04:03In fact, the presidents of the countries are sitting in the back row.
04:05You believe this?
04:07They're going to be very upset with you.
04:09But we also have many famous FIFA legends and all-star players, people that I recognize,
04:15being somebody that knows something about sports.
04:18I have my children love soccer.
04:20My one son, my very tall son, Baron loves soccer.
04:25He's a good soccer player.
04:26He may, I don't know, his speed might.
04:28I'm a little kid.
04:29He's very tall.
04:30I don't know.
04:30I said, when some guy gets by you from Spain, from Argentina, from France, Baron, what happens
04:38from England?
04:40What happens, Baron?
04:41He said, Dad, I'm a very good ball handler.
04:44I said, but Baron, if he's faster, what do you do about it?
04:48Dad, he'll never get by me.
04:50I said, but when he does?
04:52And he didn't want to answer that question.
04:55So speed, I think, is quite important in this sport.
04:57Do you agree?
04:58But he has good skills, actually.
05:00But he helped, Johnny helped shape the game.
05:03You all helped shape the game.
05:05And really bringing it to a level that I don't think I've ever seen before.
05:09Melania's father, Victor, is sitting right here.
05:11And he's been a wonderful father-in-law, a great guy.
05:15And he said he used to play soccer as a young man.
05:18He didn't quite make it into the big leagues, but he's a good athlete.
05:22Victor, stand up.
05:23Stand up.
05:24An ex-soccer player.
05:28But we're gathered tonight.
05:29Thanks, Victor.
05:30But we're gathered tonight.
05:31He's going to be at the game, along with Melania, along with everybody.
05:34I mean, who's not going to be at the game?
05:37If we had about 10 million more, we would sell every ticket.
05:43This thing is sold out.
05:45I've never seen.
05:45Nobody's seen anything like it.
05:47But we're gathered tonight in New York City as we await the final face-off on Sunday between the amazing,
05:53two amazing teams, Spain and Argentina.
05:56I watched that pass that Messi made.
05:59I'm not knowing as much as the people in this room, but I know about sports and I know about
06:03a little bit about soccer.
06:04But I watched Messi and he was well guarded, right?
06:08Well guarded.
06:09And all of a sudden, he's standing on the right.
06:11Do you understand what I'm talking about?
06:13I don't know if anybody didn't.
06:14I just noticed it.
06:16Nobody talked about it.
06:17I just noticed it.
06:18I said, he's so well guarded by a great player.
06:21And then he moved to the right and the other player was just standing there.
06:26And he had plenty of time.
06:28He kicked it.
06:28It was within, I would say, a quarter of an inch of being perfect.
06:32And that was the end of the game.
06:34It was brilliant.
06:35And these great players, they seem to do that over and over again.
06:41They're just born with something extra special.
06:45I know that Ronaldo is one of them.
06:47I got to know him over the years and he's a great guy.
06:51You have a great player in England who I played golf with.
06:54You know that, right?
06:55And he is Harry, who's been fantastic.
06:59I think they perhaps made a mistake when they made him a defensive player.
07:02What do I know about soccer?
07:04They took the league and they took their best player and then put him on defense.
07:09Then somehow, no, we got to be a little offensive, right?
07:14But no, I'm not going to call it.
07:16Look, what do I know about coaching?
07:18But that was a little unusual.
07:20But Harry is a great guy, actually.
07:22But we're gathered tonight in New York City as we await the final faceoff on Sunday between
07:27these two amazing teams.
07:29And it's going to be something, I think, really special.
07:32This has been a tournament like no other, filled with fierce competition, unforgettable moments.
07:38You had unforgettable moments, like probably the most unforgettable is when they gave that
07:44gentleman.
07:44Is it a red card?
07:46And I was forced to call Johnny and just make a recommendation.
07:50I said, Johnny, I'd like to make a recommendation.
07:53Let the guy in the game.
07:54No, I didn't say that.
07:55I said, I said, I'd like to wage a complaint.
08:00And actually, I had no idea what was going to happen.
08:03But, you know, it's so much better the way it worked out because there's no controversy.
08:08They won the game and our team had all of its players.
08:12You made another great decision, if you think about that.
08:14I know you'll never get credit.
08:16You'll never get credit.
08:17Think of it, if he didn't allow him, and they would say, we would have won the game if we
08:24had our best players.
08:25So Johnny made yet another of his many good decisions.
08:28But the spirit and patriotism and the unity that's brought, I think, the whole world together.
08:33This has really brought the world together.
08:36The 2026 FIFA World Cup has broken almost every record imaginable.
08:40This is the largest World Cup in history by far, by many times, actually.
08:44Johnny, welcoming 16 additional teams.
08:47And I understand you may be making it even larger next time.
08:51I suggested that this has been so successful that, you know, I'm really working these people
08:58hard because they really call the shot.
08:59They tell Johnny exactly what to do.
09:01I say, what we should do is you should choose the United States of America again.
09:08This time, we'll leave Mexico and Canada out.
09:11But then what you do is you, which I was very nice to get them in.
09:15But what we do is you leave, you choose us, but you pick somebody else for the next one.
09:20And that will take some of the anger, hatred and steam out of everyone.
09:25But Johnny also had another idea.
09:27He said we could do it.
09:29China.
09:30And the United States for next time.
09:32We do them China, United States.
09:34So you have a nice short flight in between games.
09:37You know, the players would love that.
09:39But it is the world's largest.
09:41And it's like having, you know, I first heard this, but many Super Bowls at one time.
09:47You know, it's like having many Super Bowls.
09:49Bob, every stadium is packed to the rafters, the spirit.
09:53But fans from 200 countries attended 104 games spread across 16 northern American cities.
09:59And I saw things happen.
10:01My mother comes from Scotland.
10:03My father comes from Germany.
10:05When I saw the Scottish bagpipes and the Scottish, they were going wild.
10:10They were going, I said, this is really different.
10:13And, you know, a lot of countries came here not knowing what to think.
10:16And they love the United States.
10:17In fact, the people that came, they're going to be coming back.
10:20Maybe permanently.
10:21I don't know.
10:22They love the United States.
10:23We're doing great.
10:24We're doing great.
10:25It's the golden age of America.
10:27We're doing better than we've ever done.
10:28We have $19.2 trillion being invested, much more than any country has ever had, invested
10:35into our country, factories being built all across the land.
10:38But I'm proud to report that with more than 6.5 million attendees, this has been by far the
10:44most attended tournament in history.
10:46And that's the history of all sports.
10:49And that's only going to go, well, maybe up.
10:51I don't know where you're going next time.
10:52Where are you going next time?
10:53Are you allowed to tell me?
10:54I'll let you know if you're going to do better.
10:56But that's a tough number to beat, right?
10:59That's why he's, you know, what he wants to do.
11:00He's very competitive.
11:01That's why he's going to add some more teams.
11:02He figures by adding some more teams, maybe they can tap it.
11:06But the total number of spectators exceeds the entire attendance of the last two World Cups
11:11combined.
11:13And together, we pulled it off really flawlessly.
11:15I mean, I don't want to say this because you do have two more games.
11:19And so let's not talk about it yet.
11:21I don't want to say how great it's been.
11:23We've had absolute spirit, absolute.
11:26I have to say the law enforcement, they're fantastic.
11:29But they didn't have to work too hard because the spirit was so good.
11:33There were no fights.
11:34There were no anything.
11:35So I just want to say great.
11:36But let's save it for Sunday evening.
11:39I think we'll hold it out for Sunday evening.
11:41But it's going to go well.
11:42By the time the final whistle sounds on Sunday, nearly six billion viewers will have watched
11:48this World Cup.
11:49That's a record by many, many times over.
11:51I have no doubt that the World Cup has won millions of new fans and a lot of new fans
11:56in this country, which traditionally hasn't been a soccer country.
12:00But it's got it's getting there even before this.
12:02It's been going up.
12:04And this will have a big impact, I'm sure.
12:06From the first day of my administration, 2025, we've worked closely with FIFA to make
12:13this event a resounding success.
12:15We have great people.
12:16Andrew, thank you very much.
12:17Great job.
12:18You did.
12:18We really you really worked hard.
12:21And thank you very much.
12:21Great job.
12:22To put our preparations into perspective and the record setting tournament has been the
12:29logistical equivalent of holding 78 NFL Super Bowls in less than two months time, 78.
12:36We marshaled the resources of more than 50 federal departments and agencies, deployed every arm
12:41of the federal law enforcement to ensure the games would be safe, secure and successful.
12:46And they've turned out to be amazing.
12:49The State Department expedited thousands and thousands of visas for World Cup ticket holders
12:55very quick, very we call it fast, fast letting them in.
12:59We call it let them in fast.
13:01And we secured and Marco was fantastic.
13:04Marco Rubio, fantastic.
13:06And the job he's done, Secretary of State.
13:08And we secured more than $1.2 billion in funding to support transit operations and security
13:14for the games, $1.2 billion, and he wanted more.
13:17I said, can we just relax for a little while, Johnny?
13:19$1.2 billion to transport people.
13:22Isn't that nice?
13:23But I want to thank the White House FIFA Task Force.
13:26They've been really fantastic.
13:28And again, Andrew, Giuliani did a fantastic job.
13:31Thank you very much.
13:33Hosting guests from all over the globe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was also an incredibly
13:38special way to help kick off America 250 years of freedom we have.
13:45Tens of thousands of people from around the world that got to join us.
13:49We had a fantastic July 4th weekend, like I think we've never had before.
13:53And it was only enhanced by having you here by, I don't know if you did that on purpose.
13:58I don't think so.
13:59But it was, it worked out fantastically.
14:01We had, we had an amazing crowd.
14:04450,000 people showed up to, to celebrate our country on a very rainy evening.
14:11And because of lightning, everybody was forced to leave.
14:13And then I said, we're going to do it anyway.
14:15Even if I have to speak at two o'clock in the morning, we called everybody back.
14:19And 150,000 people came back.
14:21They were on their way back to Texas and Oklahoma.
14:24And we had 150,000 people standing in the rain late in the evening.
14:28Somebody suggested, let's do it on a different day, maybe in a week or two.
14:31I said, no, it doesn't work on a week or two.
14:33It worked on the 250, 250th year.
14:38From the Scotland fans who took over the streets of Boston last month to the Argentinian supporters
14:45who cheered on Messi.
14:47How good is Messi?
14:49The hat trick in Kansas City.
14:51He had the hat trick, something very rare, I guess, in your sport.
14:54That's pretty rare, isn't it?
14:56To our first ally, France, winning in Philadelphia on July 4th.
15:02What a game.
15:03They would seem to be, I mean, it's life and sports, but they seem to be unbeatable.
15:08And then they didn't beat Spain.
15:11It was, they were the team that was favorite.
15:13They were the team that was winning, I think, probably the most easily.
15:16And then they, something happens.
15:18It can happen in life.
15:19It's sports.
15:20It can happen in life, too.
15:21You're hot as a pistol and then you're not so hot.
15:23But I wouldn't know about a thing like that.
15:26No, it happens in life.
15:28You're hot and then you're not.
15:29But you have to always make a comeback, right?
15:31You can never give up.
15:32But it's been a true honor for Americans to share our magnificent country with the world.
15:37And today, America, it's stronger and wealthier and hotter than ever before.
15:42And you're a big part of it.
15:44Once again, I want to thank Johnny and the incredible people of FIFA.
15:48They're incredible people.
15:49I got to know some of them during this period of time.
15:51I'll get to know some more on Sunday.
15:52And I want to congratulate every team that made the 2026 World Cup one of the all-time
15:59greatest sporting events in history.
16:01And I think beyond a sporting event, it's been, this has been not just a sporting event.
16:06This has been far beyond a sporting event.
16:08This has been something very, very special.
16:10So good luck to Spain and Argentina on Sunday.
16:14And may the best team win.
16:16And now it's a pleasure.
16:18It's really my pleasure to introduce a very talented man.
16:22The man that I cannot tell.
16:23You know, Luciano was a great friend of mine, Pavarotti.
16:26And he was a great singer.
16:27And I cannot tell the difference.
16:28The only one that tells me he's not as good is Christopher.
16:31He says, I'm not as good as him.
16:33He was the greatest of all time, as I said.
16:36But Christopher Macchio is a great, great talent.
16:40A very highly respected person within the world of opera.
16:45And you can hear a tremendous voice.
16:49And again, thank you very much.
16:50And Johnny, congratulations on probably the most successful event ever held.
