00:00We're getting new insight into the chaotic day that Mississippi teen Nolan Wells disappeared
00:04thanks to newly released emergency radio audio from his friend's boat.
00:08The recordings revealed the group was dealing with a boat emergency just hours after Wells was
00:13seen on Horn Island. According to officials, the boat's bilge pump failed, causing the vessel to
00:17take on water. Here's part of the distress call obtained by ABC News. We're sinking. Can you all
00:23please come? And is everybody on board and good health otherwise? Yeah, yeah, everybody talks
00:27about it. The boat, which had seven people on board, was towed for several miles before it was
00:31able to get underway again, eventually returning to the Mississippi mainland. Nolan Wells, however,
00:36wasn't on board. Now, a judge whose son was part of the group says Wells chose to remain on the
00:41island
00:41and plan to return later with another group of friends. But his family's attorney, Ben Crump,
00:46says there are still too many unanswered questions about what happened. Wells was reported missing the
00:50night of July 4th, and his body was found two days later in the water just off the island.
00:54Authorities still don't suspect foul play and believe he likely drowned, though an official
00:59cause of death hasn't yet been released. Meanwhile, the family is still waiting for the
01:02results of an independent autopsy they commissioned. Crump says those findings could help answer
01:07whether he suffered any injuries before his death. A funeral for Wells is scheduled for Monday.
