00:00My name is Jennifer Boss. I live in Antioch, Illinois.
00:02I'm the mother of an angel named Megan Boss,
00:05and I'm here because my daughter's tragic and gruesome death
00:08has exposed catastrophic failures in immigration enforcement
00:12and drug trafficking policies.
00:15The investigation into her death continues,
00:17but one truth is painfully clear.
00:21Dangerous gaps in our system allowed an illegal alien
00:24to exploit our laws, and my daughter paid the ultimate price.
00:29Losing Megan and then being forced to navigate
00:32multiple broken systems while drowning in grief
00:36taught me that policies carrying life-or-death consequences
00:39cannot remain political talking points.
00:43That's why I've tried, despite the most intense heartache
00:47anyone can ever experience,
00:49to speak locally and nationally about the four crises
00:53that compounded our tragedy.
00:56Illegal immigration, sanctuary policies,
01:00the fentanyl crisis, and cashless bail.
01:04I'm so grateful that the whole of this administration,
01:07with Todd Blanche leading the DOJ,
01:09has prioritized all four of these issues.
01:13I'm asking the committee not to wait
01:15until another mother is sitting where I am.
01:18Confirm Todd Blanche.
01:20He is a leader who will uphold the law,
01:22honor victims,
01:24confront dangerous criminal organizations,
01:27and fight to give other American families
01:29the safety and lasting protection
01:31that came too late for mine.
01:36I couldn't save my daughter,
01:39but Todd Blanche's Attorney General,
01:41he might save yours.
01:42Because next time, it could be your child.
01:45It could be your family.
01:49It could be you.
01:51This can happen to anyone.
01:54We must have leaders that are willing to act
01:57before the next life is taken.
01:59Leaders that are willing to confront the failures
02:02instead of explaining them away.
02:04Leaders like Todd Blanche.
02:08Megan was my firstborn.
02:11She was a mom and a sister and an aunt.
02:14Loyal friend.
02:17She was bubbly and funny.
02:23She loved to be silly.
02:25Sorry.
02:28She was extraordinarily creative.
02:32And she was blessed with the spirit
02:34that just lit up the room.
02:37In February of 2025,
02:40Megan disappeared.
02:41For 51 days,
02:43our family lived in the most unbearable agony.
02:47Day after day,
02:49I did everything I could think of
02:50to search for her.
02:53Instead of bringing Megan home,
02:55our search ended with the most unbearable truth
02:57a mother could ever be forced to face.
03:09We learned
03:12that Megan's life had been cut short
03:16and her body was concealed.
03:21Stuffed upside down in a garbage can
03:23filled with bleach
03:28by an illegal alien
03:30that had no right to be here.
03:32Again,
03:34she was stuffed upside down
03:37in a garbage can
03:39for 51 days
03:40soaking in bleach.
03:49For seven weeks,
03:51this man walked past
03:54that garbage can
03:55on his way
03:56to the bakery
03:57he worked at
03:58every day
03:59under a fake name.
04:03And during those weeks,
04:04I couldn't breathe
04:05or eat or sleep.
04:07We searched
04:09his neighborhood.
04:10We knocked
04:11on his door.
04:15We left
04:16Megan
04:16flyers
04:17with Megan's face
04:18on every surface
04:20as we could find.
04:23And then I learned
04:25she was only
04:27a driveway distance
04:28away from us
04:29the whole time.
04:34Excuse me.
04:41Not only was she killed,
04:43but her dignity
04:44was stolen
04:45from death.
04:47Had Megan
04:48not been identified
04:49by the tattoos
04:50that she loved
04:51so dearly.
04:53Even the beautiful
04:54image of my daughter
04:55that I hold
04:56in my heart
04:57and my head.
04:58It would have been
04:59replaced forever
05:00by the unbearable image
05:02of what had been
05:03done to her.
05:07Megan's daughter.
05:08She was only
05:09five years old
05:09when this happened.
05:12Her life with Megan
05:13and her right to know
05:15and make memories
05:16with her mom
05:17that was stolen.
05:21This is Megan's bracelet.
05:26It's a charm bracelet.
05:27We started when
05:28she was five.
05:29And it has
05:31every memory on it
05:32from growing up.
05:34Every milestone,
05:36every place
05:36that we visit,
05:37anything that was
05:38important to her.
05:41It's here.
05:43This is her story.
05:45And these are
05:46the stories
05:46that she should
05:47be telling
05:48her daughter.
05:50I have to hope
05:52I can remember
05:52them all.
05:54There's so many.
06:02My husband and I,
06:04we won't be retiring
06:05like we imagined,
06:06of course,
06:06because we have
06:08to pray that we
06:09live long enough
06:09to raise her little
06:10girl into adulthood.
06:13and this is
06:15because our
06:16laws that we
06:17already have
06:18aren't enforced.
06:21This is why
06:23victims don't care
06:24about partisan
06:25victories.
06:26We care whether
06:28the dangerous
06:28criminals and
06:29drug traffickers
06:30and cartels
06:31are stopped
06:32before another
06:33loved one is
06:34buried and
06:34another family's
06:35life is shattered.
06:40right now,
06:41governors and
06:43local officials
06:44enact sanctuary
06:45protections,
06:46cashless bail
06:47policies,
06:48and identification
06:49laws that undermine
06:50federal enforcement
06:51and create dangerous
06:52public safety
06:53loopholes.
06:55A criminal
06:56that's released
06:57under a reckless
06:58local policy
06:59does not remain
07:01inside that city
07:02or state.
07:03He can cross
07:04into yours.
07:07Megan's perpetrator
07:08was released
07:09the day after
07:10he was arrested.
07:12Do you want him
07:14as your neighbor?
07:17Angel families
07:18have told me
07:20how they've been
07:21entirely abandoned
07:22and ignored
07:23by the government.
07:25Our children
07:26and our families
07:27were politically
07:28inconvenient.
07:29Some of these
07:29Angel families
07:30have been trying,
07:32asking,
07:33for someone
07:34to listen
07:34to the stories
07:35and learn
07:36from what's
07:36happened to us
07:37for more than
07:3925 years.
07:45In this very room,
07:47the last Angel
07:49mom that sat
07:50here
07:52was asked
07:53how come
07:54she was here
07:55and why did
07:56they have to
07:57sit through
07:57another hearing?
08:03That's beginning
08:04to change now
08:05under the current
08:06leadership of
08:07Todd Blanche.
08:08Angel families
08:10finally are feeling
08:11hurt and respected
08:12and taken seriously.
08:15There is a renewed
08:16focus on prosecuting
08:18immigration crimes
08:19and the transnational
08:21criminal organizations,
08:23drug trafficking,
08:24and the like.
08:25So much work
08:27that's done
08:27by ICE
08:28and Homeland
08:28Security
08:29investigations
08:30goes unseen.
08:32It's not
08:33limited
08:33to detaining
08:35the individuals
08:35who escape
08:36detection
08:37at the border.
08:38Their work
08:39is life-protecting.
08:42From the time
08:44that I've spent
08:44talking with
08:45Todd Blanche,
08:46I knew immediately
08:46that he makes
08:47victims
08:49a priority.
08:51Under his direction,
08:53the DOJ has
08:54engaged directly
08:55with the Angel
08:56families and
08:57treated us not
08:58like political
08:58props,
09:00but as partners
09:01in preventing
09:02future tragedies.
09:04And that's all
09:04that we've ever
09:05asked for.
09:08Justice can't
09:09bring our children
09:10home.
09:12Nothing.
09:13Nothing can.
09:15So the justice
09:17that we're seeking
09:18now is the
09:19assurance that
09:20their deaths
09:21won't be ignored.
09:22And they won't
09:24be in vain.
09:25And preventable
09:26tragedies
09:27from these laws
09:28not being enforced
09:29won't be repeated.
09:33I 100% believe
09:35Todd Blanche
09:36will be the one
09:37who can deliver
09:38that justice,
09:40saving lives
09:41of people
09:42who'll never
09:42know it.
