US resumes daylight strikes on Iran as tensions escalate over Strait of Hormuz

US Central Command said it has resumed daylight strikes on Iran, targeting coastal defences and missile sites. Tehran has reported casualties as tensions rise over a renewed blockade threat, calls for retaliation and the ongoing dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.

00:00The U.S. launched another wave of attacks targeting Iran on Wednesday in broad daylight
00:05after Washington said it would intensify its campaign aimed at limiting Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping.
00:13Attacks over the last few days have typically occurred overnight,
00:16but the U.S. Central Command said it carried out a 90-minute wave of precision airstrikes at midday,
00:22acting on orders by the Commander-in-Chief, President Donald Trump.
00:27The attacks come despite both countries having signed a Memorandum of Understanding last month,
00:32which included a 60-day ceasefire period.
00:36The White House says Iran's Revolutionary Guard violated the deal
00:39and attacked at least seven commercial ships in the Strategic Strait of Hormuz,
00:43prompting a strong response.
00:46Meanwhile, Iran has been retaliating with strikes of its own,
00:50targeting U.S. assets and positions in the region, including bases in their Gulf ally countries.
00:56Many countries, including Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain,
01:01have reported intercepting incoming Iranian fire over the past few days.
