How Roads Are Carved Into Vertical Mountains Using Cut and Fill
Transkrip
00:00This is how you build a road on a vertical mountain, because it's called cut and fill.
00:04The bulldozer cuts into the high side of the slope, removing tons of soil.
00:07That soil doesn't go to waste. It's pushed over the edge to fill the low side, creating a flat bench.
00:12Like, they're literally cutting the mountain and using that exact dirt to build the road surface.
00:17The key is balance. Engineers calculate so the amount of soil cut equals the amount needed for fill.
00:22This way, no dirt needs to be trucked in or hauled away.
00:24The bench is then compacted layer by layer for stability, and once the first pass is done, graders smooth it
00:30out and the road takes shape.
