00:01Cancelled flights, airspace restrictions and exploding fuel prices.
00:06The war in the Middle East has been disrupting travel by air since it started in late February of this
00:12year.
00:13Missile strikes across the region have prompted many airlines to adapt their routes or cancel flights entirely.
00:19And the impact is far from just being regional.
00:23The impact on travel has been global, even though it's been a regional conflict,
00:28primarily because of the fact that that Middle Eastern location of the conflict is a significant air corridor for aircraft
00:35flying across the world,
00:37whether it's for passengers or for trade.
00:39About 30 to 40 percent of global air traffic goes through that corridor.
00:45Airlines are not only responding to airspace restrictions, but also rising fuel costs.
00:52And while this is having an effect on ticket prices, how are travellers reacting to the situation?
00:59The conflict has hit at two levels.
01:01It's been firstly from an airline perspective, but also from a confidence of travel perspective.

01:10The travellers are not stopping travelling.
01:12They're simply changing where they are travelling to and how they are travelling.
01:17So the air routes that they're taking and the airlines.
01:20But we're seeing that despite the fact that there is a regional conflict, travel is continuing.
01:27People are continuing to demand to go on holiday, are needing to go on holiday.
01:32They're just making decisions that allow for more confidence.
01:35And that means closer to home, quite honestly.
01:38While the war's impact is significant, it is less certain whether its disruptions will contribute
01:43to lowering emissions from the aviation industry, one of the emissions' heaviest sectors in the world.
