00:00In 1998, Colombia released a man who confessed to murdering over 300 little girls.

00:10Pedro Alonso Lopez spent the 1970s and 80s traveling through Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador.
00:16He targeted young girls in remote villages and open markets.
00:20When Ecuadorian police finally caught him in 1980, he led them to 53 graves.
00:25He said there were hundreds more.
00:27Investigators believed him.
00:28He became known as the Monster of the Andes.
00:31He served 18 years.
00:33Then a psychiatrist signed a form saying he was no longer a danger.
00:37A judge agreed.
00:38And just like that, he was free.
00:40Ecuador tried to extradite him shortly after.
00:42He was gone.
00:44Interpol issued a red notice.
