Shadow Business and Trade Minister, Gareth Davies, says that whilst he “personally feels safe” as an MP, it is important that a review takes place to carry out a risk-based assessment for every MP, because they “have to feel safe”. It comes after the news that Counter Terrorism Police are now leading the investigation into the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe. Report by Patelr. 00:00Every member of Parliament is different, and they face different threats and different environments when they go back to their
00:06constituencies.
00:07I personally feel safe, and I feel that there is a robust offering by the security services, by the police,
00:14there's strong engagement.
00:15And when we need them, they're there.
00:18But it's important when tragic events like this happen, that there is a review taking place,
00:24and that everybody is assessed on a risk-based assessment, because, like I said, every MP is different,
00:32and so they have to feel safe, because ultimately this is a threat to our democracy, and we can't let
00:38people endure in that democracy.
